sometimes i wonder how it must feel to be logan sargeant. you grow up across europe and make friends with one of the only other kids there who understands how it feels to be oceans away from home. you fight each other for championships. you lose. you get to the highest category of motorsport in the same year. you're stuck in a losing car while you watch him get his first podiums. his first win. you crash and it's not a blaze of glory, it's not anything but the sinking knowledge your time is up. you have to leave.

then he wins a world championship. and you test an indycar in your home country and you do so so well, but it's never good enough, is it? and your fellow floridian is there in indycar, too. you fish together underneath the blazing florida sun. it's the only time you get to compete on his level.

and the next season starts, and you pull out of the series you were supposed to race in. you don't really ever say why. and the kid you were foreigners alongside is now foreign to you and far from you. he's leading championships, he's fighting for wins and for glory and for everything you've dreamed of. and your friend from back home is winning, too--only one of two winners in his season so far. he's got three wins and third place in the championship.

how long ago was it that you were doing that too? do you even remember how it feels?

and you're happy for them, you are. but it's june and you're in florida and the ache stings like your weary skin left under the sun too long. you're probably tired.

that's the thing tho, what should mclaren do? I don't think they can do much as of rn. They're too focused on "being a family."

I think lando should take action and just leave the team altogether. Go somewhere where he's viewed as a driver and not a son, (to me) he needs a team that just demands results from him.

first of all idea of swapping cars was proposed by piastri, a driver driving car car 280 km/h, trying to get ahead with no data on his side. second, now we are getting to purely theoretical side of the debate, if the swap was organised he would set his tyres on fire trying to push and going though dirty air, and then fall back. and would he give position back to lando (who wasn’t even informed about the swap btw)? also how tf in this theoreticals he’s passing max where he couldn’t even pass lando? they were free to race, there was no team orders against it. you’re think you’re faster? then race and pass. third, the data shows that (https://www.tumblr.com/landopics/780064862116118528/just-going-to-leave-these-here-i-think-some) oscar wasn’t faster, and more crucialy slower than max. fourth, andrea stella, team principal, said that they didn’t organise a swap because they didn’t see a chance either of them passing max, but, sure, armchair experts on twitter said otherwise.

and fifth, I think the debate is stupid, bcs THEY WERE free to race, team wasn’t favouring lando in any way, they pitted oscar first thus giving him advantage to undercut lando. pitted lando the same lap as max not even trying to undercut. so where is that favour you’re talking about? I remember only one sprint race in 2024 where they were actually prioritising landos interest (Brazil) and I was given back almost immediately (Qatar), where is second driver treatment? lando was told the whole china go to not overtake oscar, and yet no one bats an eye.

I wanna finish be saying, that all Oscar fans do now is whine about him not being gifted a position. yall want lando to be bottas when oscar isn’t even hamilton.

ok. first of all, I am aware that it was oscar's idea to swap places on sunday. And I do agree that neither of the 2 cars would have been able to catch max, no matter what the team did. They just didn't have the pace.

The problem, to me, is that the team actually stopped and considered oscar's request to swap w lando WHEN THEY KNEW that lando was currently leading the wdc. They didn't favor him in any way, and that's the problem!!! They keep mishandling both drivers and it's costing them everything constantly.

In my post, i was also referring to the whole 2024 "we have no main driver" situation, where mclaren completely fumbled every chance lando had to earn points for the wdc, all in favor of "not showing favoritism and saving friendships" (which is v stupid imo). And by the time they prioritized lando's season, it was too late!, max had already scored a bazillion points and was too far ahead to even dream of catching up with him. And the point I'm trying to make is that I can still see traces of that problem now.

However, I have to disagree w you in the last part, as a lando stan myself, I do think that mclaren has gone soft on him (after all, he's spent his entire career w the team and will keep doing so in the intermediate future). As we've said, they don't favor him, but they don't push him to grow either and that frustrates me (as I said, I do like him. he's in my username lol)

i don't think mclaren is the right fit for oscar nor lando

(english isn't my first language, and i just finished watching the 2025 japanese gp, so bear w me on this one)

Mclaren's approach to racing seems to be "keep the peace between drivers just enough for the team to keep leading the constructors championship", and that sucks for their drivers, cause they're fighting for the wdc but mclaren doesn't seem to give a single fuck about that so they just keep fumbling both lando's and oscar's chances at earning the points they need individually.

What i mean is, the team just loves lando so much that they barely pressure him to push harder or to give the position to his teammate if his pace is lacking (and if they do ask him to let oscar pass, they'll just let him get away with not following team orders by just saying smth like "let oscar win at least during a sprint" and that'll be it). To me, he needs a team a little bit more strict, one that actually demands better results from him.

And for oscar, if it was just him as a main driver and a checo perez type of second driver, maybe the 2025 championship would have been easily dominated by mclaren (both as a team and their drivers individually). But he keeps letting this micro-aggressions happen, he keeps allowing his team to disregard his ability to fight for the championship in favor of lando. I think he should get a team that respects him and supports him almost like red bull supports max (not as much, cause the way rb has been prioritizing max is damaging to the team and yadda yadda yadda).
