Can I ask what's the difference between Steven Stone in TSME and ORAS?
ORAS!Daigo/Steven sounds adorable - he gets excited easily, is a bit shy? though still able to get mad (“OYAJI!!!”), wants to help, ultimately acknowledges that he still had many things to learn (“But, hmm… When the time comes for me to pursue my own hopes… Well, I hope that you, Wallace, will be behind me to lend a hand. Hah hah hah… Thank you, my friend…” HE’S EVEN PURER IN JAPANESE!!!) and basically tries to run away from the League, if Kagetsu/Sidney’s attempt at bringing him back post-game is any indication (“Who, me? I came to ask that guy Steven to come to the Pokémon League. […] Anyway, I came to bring him back, but it looks like he dodged me…”). So: pure.
TSME!Daigo… sounds a lot more insidious. It’s also thanks to Kenichi Suzumura’s performance: it’s not Akira Ishida-level but his nasal voice deeeeefinitely sets him up as someone… mocking/teasing/using social etiquette to get what he wants? (The “ne” at the end of his sentences were super-effective to piss Alan off during their battle, and quite clearly, it wasn’t ~accidental~: Daigo doesn’t speak that way when Real Serious Stuff happens =D)
And there were all his face-switches in Act II, where he’s all smiles and thanks towards Lys and Alan and “:|||| MURDER.” when he has his back turned on to them. He deeeefinitely sounds and looks like someone pretty calculating to me (the fact that he probably could guess Alan&Manon didn’t know he was the Champ’ and yet never tried to break the news to them until Lys busted him; the way he brought Manon back to Kalos and led her to Lys’s labs but used it as a pretext to check on the megalith…)
