i've always been dogshit at pottery on a wheel because i have weak noodle arms and can't hold my hands firmly in place to center the clay but i finally realized the root issue was that my legs are SHORT since i have the limb/torso proportions of a dachshund and i couldn't brace my elbows on my legs, so i put bricks under my feet and now i can sort of do it!! i've tried to learn twice in the past from TALL people but had a revelation when i watched a medium size guy throwing.

The moral of the story is: don't give up, maybe you just need bricks

I love Granny Weatherwax so very much, and one of my favorite about her is just that she’s kind of really unpleasant all the time; she’s nosy and critical and stubborn as a mule and a filthy hypocrite and she’s prideful and far too serious and extremely bossy and refuses to admit when she’s wrong, she’s deeply conservative and judgmental and demanding and rude to everyone, no matter who they are. But that never stops her from helping, or wanting to help, she’s going to help and she’s going to insist on helping and she’s going to complain about it every second it takes. Esme Weatherwax is not nice, or polite, but she is good, and I love her so dearly for that

We've had Eldritch Horror Jolene and "The singer is in love with Jolene" but I just saw this youtube comment suggesting Jolene is a personification of death and I'm absolutely floored by it.

Like holy shit. "Flaming locks of auburn hair" just being literally flames, "Emerald eyes" being an unearthly green glow. The "ivory skin" line referring to the paleness of bloodless skin or even bleached bone, and yet Jolene is still spoken of as having haunting, enticing beauty, like a sort of angelic figure. The husband "talking about her in his sleep" meaning he's delirious with fever and keeps talking like he knows he's going to die. Of course the narrator can't compete with, or do anything about, a literal force of nature.

i have a youtube video about the use of jumpscares in horror games playing in the background while I work, and it reminded me of the single worst jumpscare i've ever experienced, which happened while I was playing a little game I like to call... Google Maps. (you play Google Maps by turning on street view, zooming in to somewhere that looks interesting, and clicking on any 360 photo views that people might have uploaded. i have spent many hours of my life playing Google Maps)

Anyway, spin this guy around to see something that legitimately made me jump so hard that I damn near threw my drink across the room
