What's fucked up about Wired Beck is that he might be the third strongest vampire we see in the series.

It's so clever that we never actually see Imp's trigger event, and Grue's is one deliberately obscured by lies.

love it when wormfics make taylor an entomology nerd. she does even care about words. that's the beauty of taylor and annette hebert.

They're homonyms (or whatever that's called) and phaze is objectively a cooler word. I can excuse it.
for some reason, the single most prevalent incorrect word--there's an actual term for doing this but i forgot--the single most prevalent incorrect word in not just worm fanfiction but in pretty much all fanfiction is people saying "unphased" when they mean "unfazed."
for some reason practically every fanfic author, even very skilled ones(!) will always use a homophone for faze (it's not just a worm thing either, this is in every fandom).
I genuinely have no idea why it's so common. Maybe something to do with the call of duty clan? like looking up "faze" just gets the call of duty thing instead of the word? That's literally all i can think of.
"Faze" means to be disturbed or disconcerted. So if someone is "unfazed" that means they're being really um. stoic or unbothered. like the intended word for this sentence. The therapist is unbothered by smoothbore saying he looks like her (like shit).
"Phase" has a bunch of different meanings, but it's usually related to stages of a thing. so like the moon is in a bunch of Phases. like a waxing crescent or something. as a verb it can mean to like slowly change between two things, like uhh. like you can say that smoothbore is in... a middle phase of a transition between... mental... unhealthiness... and mental healthiness?
It's also a physics thing, where phase is similar to wavelength. so like a radio broadcast has a phase. and in that sense To Phase means to like. synchronize these phases? usually to cause either destructive or constructive interference. (This is also the science-fiction definition: to phase means to, like, pass through an object. So you can phase through a wall, for instance, presumably by synchronizing wavelengths. or something).
So unphased would mean that either something changed between two states with no in-between stages. like. if umm. noelle took a cauldron vial and immediately started vomiting clones. there's no middle stage. Or unphased could mean that two waves are. out of phase. so like they do nothing to each other. (or in the science fiction definition i guess it means that you just bump into a wall rather than passing through it).
this has been. the dw definition hour? the dw being an asshole hour. thanks for reading.

The objectively most interesting trait you can inflict on a character's lore is "excommunicated".
In world where church bears much power, this carries many interesting connotations. In a more "modern" world where power is diminished, what the hell did they do to piss them off that much?

A couple of years ago we were all terribly concerned about the fact that a lot of American high schools are assigning such crushing homework loads that some kids literally didn't have enough time to eat or sleep (and all this in spite of the fact that there's no good evidence that assigning homework actually improves academic outcomes at the pre-university level), but now we're hearing stories about those same schools struggling to stop kids from using ChatGPT to write their essays and suddenly It's The Children Who Are Wrong. Like, do you think maybe there's a certain level of cause and effect in play here?
