Quicksilver, Chapter #1:
First chapter of a little something something I've been working on. Kinda no plot yet (or title), this is mostly a character study but I feel like it's pretty good so far. (1.4k Words)
Peter never knew there were so many dumb words in the dictionary.
For example, there was Bardolatry and Borborygmus. There was also Quagmire and Cattywampus, although he still had no idea what that was. His best guess was some sort of plant. Imbroglio was one of those words, and yet it was probably one of the nicer ways to describe his situation.
In the words of the English dictionary, it means “an intricate and perplexing state of affairs,” or “a complicated and difficult situation.”
In his words, a mess. A complete mess.
How did he know this? Because somehow, out of all of the books in the once giant mansion, the thick, red, leather-bound Dictionary was one of the only surviving books in the ruins of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
After the explosion (and Peter’s brief hero moment), the school had been completely destroyed. What was left of it was either very charred or nearly ash. Except for the dictionary somehow. The state of the book was very much unlike the school. It seemed to be in pristine condition besides the slight char on the spine of the cover. Everything important however, including the manor, was gone. What was left of the school could barely be considered a foundation. Heaps of debris and rubble covered half the plot and small fires rose as a result of the explosion in random spots all over the campus.
He could remember the faces on all the kids.
They all looked heartbroken and completely devastated. Some were crying, some were consoling, and some were flat out confused, but all of them looked… sad. He couldn’t help but feel guilty, as if he’d done this to them. He knew he hadn’t. In fact, he’d been their saviour, but to him it was all the same.
He was only torn from his thoughts at the sound of yelling behind him. He turned to see the teenagers from that yellow Oldsmobile he’d seen out front. They were an odd looking group. Lead by some kid with red sunglasses and a popped collar, a Bonnie Raitt wannabe (he swears he only knows her because of his mom), another girl who looked like a neon paint explosion, and a blue kid who’s hair looked straight out of a Joan Jett and the Brokenhearts album cover. But who was he to judge?
He remembered everything that happened afterwards. He remembered the kid with the red glasses’ shouting for his brother, wondering where he was, obviously frantic. He knew that he got everyone. At least he thought he did. He grabbed everyone closest to the blast. He knew he grabbed everyone in the lobby, in the dorms, the kitchen, the lounge, the classrooms, and the basketball court. He was pretty sure he got everybody. So he said that.
“Pretty sure I got everybody.”
Key words, Pretty sure.
Not certain.
So apparently he was wrong.
“Alex was closest to the blast.” Said a voice from beside him. He froze immediately. Hands clenched into fists by his sides, nails digging into his skin. He had been so sure he got everybody. But Alex was closest to the blast. If he had already been engulfed by the flames he wouldn’t have been able to see him. He then turned to the man next to him. The one person he recognized. Peter hadn’t really remembered his name from their first meeting, but now that he looked at him again, the name Hank came to mind. The man didn’t face him. Instead he kept his head straight in a daze, eyes glazed over, staring at the teen searching in the rubble. All the guilt he had been feeling previously now felt completely valid. He was the reason this kid would never see his brother again. He hadn’t been fast enough.
He watched as the kid with the red glasses broke down in a mess of tears in the rubble of the Xavier Manor. Taking off said glasses and wiping vigorously at his face. Peter felt his own tears brewing, somewhere. He wasn’t exactly sure what to feel at the moment.
It was a mess.
Thankfully, there wasn’t much time to dwell over that fact. Mostly because almost immediately after everyone was knocked out by a bunch of overly dressed soldiers in a military helicopter and some sort of sonic blast. All the adults were then kidnapped, including himself.
When he woke up he was in a metal, green-lit room with a hot blonde, a CIA agent named Moira MacTaggert (also hot), and a giant blue guy who was apparently Hank which genuinely freaked him out. Not that he was against it or anything.
Peter’s only problem with this situation was the fact that he was even in it in the first place. All he wanted to do was ask the Professor a few questions. A few questions about Erik. His dad. Which, now that he thought about it, might not have been the best idea. He was seriously starting to regret coming to see the professor. Not that he didn’t want to know about his long lost father, he just didn’t want to be in this situation. A situation that could possibly end in his demise. Yeah, no thanks.
He didn’t exactly know how he was useful. They weren’t going to get much out of him even if they tried. He didn’t know anything. The idiot manning the operation clearly didn’t know this either as he continuously badgered them with stupid questions.
Once Major (Colonel?) Stryker left, he had nothing to do. He didn’t know these people and even if he knew Hank, he wasn’t exactly buddy-buddy with him. So he did what anyone would do in that situation.
Ask the hot blonde woman if she knew Erik.
Of course she did (because everyone except him does) and of course he just had to run his mouth and tell her that he maybe, kind of, sort of happened to be his dad. She was surprised, which was valid, so was he when he found out. I mean, who knew the all powerful Magneto, the guy who dropped a stadium on the white house, could ever love a woman enough to like, you know.
Bad choice of statement, he had loved a woman enough. Enough to start a family. It just wasn’t his mom that he stayed for.
The moment they’d escaped from Stryker, (man the guy was an idiot, I mean, who puts a feral murdering guy in a cage he could escape from?) he’d been thrown into battle again. Not willingly, he just happened to be there when they took off in the jet. He could have run, he could have left, he knew that. But there was also a big part of him that wanted to see Erik. To confess, anything. Obviously he skipped out on that chance and everything just went downhill from there.
He punched the blue guy – which was awesome by the way – but then his leg got snapped basically in half, twice, which was not awesome. He almost died, he should be more worried about that, but at the moment all he could think about was how his dad would watch another family member die and he’d never even know. He doesn’t really remember what else happened, he was too delirious with pain at the moment. But he does remember that Jean chick absolutely bombing the shit out of the blue guy.
Looking back on it the whole thing was pretty cool, except for the broken leg. Again, not awesome.
Peter leaned back against the wall that encased the back half of the Professor’s property, laying the dictionary on his chest, clasping his hands over it. He then tilted his head towards his leg. The cast went all the way to his thigh and was covered in messy handwriting, “Get well soon!” messages, and colorful names with doodles attached (Some of those were pretty questionable).
For now he was kind of set.
He’d decided to stay for a while. At least until he was fully healed. He couldn’t exactly go anywhere even if he wanted to, but besides the name, the place was surprisingly bearable. Besides the occasional screaming from the Mini-mutants, the place was sort of relaxing. That and he got free food and health care. Actually, he wasn’t quite sure if Hank was a real doctor or not. Should he really be trusting him?
Eh, either way he was free.

Comic Idea! Would You Read This Based on the Backstory?
I always have ideas for comics but I've never been able to create a good enough backstory or reason behind the things the characters do. They're usually heavily based on franchises such as X-Men, Marvel (in general), DC, and recently Umbrella Academy and Invincible. I've been writing this story based on genetically modified teenagers going against the government, which I think kind of plays into the state of the world rn. I have characters and their backstories, but I wasn't able to come up with one for the whole thing, so here it is, the backstory for the WHOLE thing. So please, dear comic fans, would you read this and also, would you draw this?
In the year 1952, a team of scientists ordered by a top secret government facility led by a revered general in Washington DC began working on an experimental serum that would be able to enhance the human genome. This serum was to be used to create the perfect human with advanced capabilities and superhuman abilities which would then be used for military purposes such as national security and soldiers in case of the cold war turning hot. Each serum, depending on the person, would react differently and be unique to the person's physicality and genetic makeup.
The project was led by two scientists, both being geniuses in their own field. One in the study of molecular genetics and the other in pharmacology. Molecular genetics was used to identify the needed and targeted genes in order for the experiment to work while pharmacology was used in the developmental properties of the serum. Although they each led their respective teams, they were both particularly stubborn, often butting heads.
The development of the serum was the hard part, figuring out how to modify the human cell and change it into what they wanted. The process began with injecting a pregnant woman with the serum once every month, and continuing to monitor the fetus’ cell construction and moderation. They had many failures, all involving the death of the subject. This continued on for years until 1958, when the serum was finally somewhat perfected and injected into a female resident who volunteered for the project. Once the child was born, he was monitored for the duration of his childhood and was nicknamed “Subject GAU1-0” (Genetic Artillery Unit) or Zero.
Once his abilities manifested, Zero was raised to be a super soldier. He was raised with no emotion, no remorse, and no regret. He was forced to fight and even got punished harshly if he was unable to complete a task. The project was inhumane, even for the time. Once they believed his powers fully realized, they continued with the mass production of the serum.
They began recruiting women from all over the country who would be surrogates for the embryos which would be pre-made consisting of only the best genetic sequences and wiped clean of any malformations, deformations, or illnesses. These women would be genetically tested before they were given the go ahead and given all the information needed to complete the task. They began recruiting women from all over the country who would be surrogates for the embryos which would be pre-made consisting of only the best genetic sequences and wiped clean of any malformations, deformations, or illnesses. These women would be genetically tested before they were given the go ahead and given all the information needed to complete the task.
Before they were able to go through with the plan, the facility was shut down due to the General being flagged for treason and conspiracy with enemy nations. It had turned out that the General may have been sending intel on the genetic experiments to enemies based in Russia. Although he wasn’t able to actually send much information it was still enough for him to be condemned and for the facility to be shut down.
The scientists were outraged, they had been working on this for years, they had subjects at the ready who were now being sent home because of the foreclosure. The lead geneticist believed that they would be able to continue their research if they moved to an abandoned facility in Alaska which would give them the time and the privacy to continue their work. The team decides to go along with the plan and decides to move their work to a secluded part of Alaska where they wouldn’t be bothered.
Because they wouldn’t be able to have the subject surrogates that they had initially, they would have to get new subjects. The geneticist had the idea to give the serum to women without their permission, women who needed help during their pregnancy or women who needed these embryos to have babies. The pharmacologist did not agree with these ideals, in fact he despised them. Forcing a woman to have a baby that would end up becoming a genetic weapon and taken in by the government was not the way to go. They needed voluntary testers if they were to go through with this plan. The geneticist convinced the pharmacologist that this was a necessary evil to keeping the world safe, for keeping the U.S. safe. The president along with the rest of the world would thank them for their hard work. Little did he know the geneticist was actually looking to send the children to the highest bidder, and was looking to cause global chaos.
They began to send the serum all over the country, placing operatives in different hospitals to administer the serum as needed without the family's knowledge. They’d tell the women that it was to make the birthing process easier once they were due. Without the women knowing, they were injecting the serum in their bodies to make the children superhuman. They’d then monitor the child until they began to show signs of their abilities.
After some time, the pharmacologist found out the true reason these children were being mass-produced. The children weren’t just going to be used as military weapons in case of emergency. They were going to be used to take over the world. The reason the geneticist had been chosen in the first place was because the general had paid him a high some to create something that would be able to get him into power, and the U.S. being the strongest nation.
Once he figured this out, he planned to do something about it. He believed that if the facility lost the data, they wouldn’t be able to find the children anymore, therefore they could live normal lives and the facility would have no control. He needed help with hacking the system however. He then recruited a brilliant young man who worked as a part-time retail employee at a record store but who had also graduated school young with a masters in genetics and a doctorate in computer technology. The pharmacologist recruited him asking for his assistance in bringing down a national security issue. The young man having nothing better to do agreed. The two then set out to delete the data.
While attempting to delete the data, the facility found out and they were put under pressure, getting shot at from behind the door. The guards attempted to break in. The younger man managed to delete some of the data but a majority wasn’t able to load fast enough. He was told by the scientist to add a few people to a list to make it even harder for the facility to keep track just in case. During this the door was busted and the scientist was then shot. The younger man escaped with the information and began to live on the run.
Thanks for reading, character info will be posted soon.

I've had this fic idea for awhile, just wondering if people would be interested in a full written out story (What if Pietro and Wanda Joined the Brotherhood in the Alternate Reality Movies?)
Basically it's an entirely rewritten storyline of the X-Men movies from the perspective of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff if they had joined the Brotherhood with Magneto after DOFP when they find out he's their father.
In this fic, Wanda and Pietro lose their mother to the FOH (Friends of Humanity) after they discover Pietro is a mutant. Him and Wanda end up being put in a foster home and instead of accepting it, Wanda wants to find their father. She knows that his ideals are questionable, but after seeing the true atrocities humans could commit against mutants and their own kind, she's figured that her and her brother should do something about it. After the incident with their mother however, Pietro has committed himself to staying out of the lime-light. He wants nothing to do with his father -- who was the whole reason they got in this mess in the first place. If he hadn't broken his father out then his mother would still be alive.
Wanda ends up going behind his back to meet with Erik anyway. She ends up meeting with him in a cafe and tells him that she is his daughter. She tells him about Pietro, their mother, and the bombing. She tells him that she just can't sit by while humans are killing innocent people, mutant and human. Erik agrees and asks to meet Pietro. When they all meet, Magneto gives them an offer they can't refuse. The twins would be able to support the mutant cause while living with him in a secret base away from other humans, where they would be able to live as their true selves. The twins agree and end up helping him recruit for the Brotherhood.
They end up finding:
Mystique first, after the incident at the White House, she wanted nothing to do with Magneto. The twins ended up convincing her by telling her that she would be able to keep a closer eye on him if she were working with him.
Dominikos Ioannis Petrakis, otherwise known as Avalanche. He wasn't exactly living the life, he was a young man with no where to go and nothing to do. Convincing him to join wasn't too hard. All humans ever did was cause him harm.
Next up was Mortimer Toynbee, Toad. He never stayed in a single place for long, there wasn't really anywhere he was wanted. due to his mutation being physical, his appearance affected his life greatly. The only reason he wasn't eager to join the Brotherhood was because of his skepticism for a place as willing to have him as the Brotherhood.
Fred Dukes or The Blob needed refuge after he escaped from a circus. The Brotherhood offered that refuge, a safe place for him as long as he helped them and their goal for mutant acceptance and maybe even rule.
An odd addition to the group, Anna Marie, or her more well known alter-ego, Rogue. Being the adoptive daughter of Mystique (at the time she didn't know), Rogue was given to the Brotherhood as a way to help her control her powers.
Additional notes:
The Avengers do exist in this story, but they and the Brotherhood do not interact other than when Wanda meets Vision and talks of her experiences with the rest of the group
Pietro and Wanda are not evil, Wanda is what I consider to be morally gray, like Magneto. Pietro is leaning more towards the side of moral understanding, though he could let a few things slide.
Throughout the story they do gain some insight as to what they're really doing but that doesn't happen until something really bad happens. Specifically to one of them
Wanda is the more headstrong of the two, whatever she says goes. this is why even though Pietro was skeptical of joining Magneto, for obvious reasons, he joins the Brotherhood anyway. Because of Wanda.
Like in the comics, Pietro speaks against a lot of the things Erik plans to do with the Brotherhood. Like I said, he's more morally understanding.
There is a good chance (I say that to give you hope) one of the twins doesn't make it. In the comics this is usually how it goes, one dies and the other goes on a life changing journey for the better
After awhile, Pietro does join the X-Men. Changing his name to Peter as a way to get away from his obligations and relations to Magneto. The X-Men are defiantly skeptical of him at first but I believe they'll get along eventually.
All of the X-Men are involved, mostly the ones from the show, movies, and the original comics: Scott, Jean, Hank, Bobby, Morph, Wolverine (not till later), John (before he joins the Brotherhood), and Ororo. Eventually adding Peter, Rogue, and Remy to that lot while getting rid of John and Bobby.
There's a lot more I have right now but I don't want to share it all for spoiler reasons incase I do make this a fic.
Tell me if you liked it!!!
