Welcome To Luminous Reverie
-Chapter 7, Dr. Fear-
Jasper bulleted out of the backroom while Crystalis tossed the flashlight into the backpack and quickly headed towards the door. However, her collar was suddenly yanked backwards and thrown against the wall beside her. She elbowed the person in the face and turned around to see no one. She was kicked onto the floor, her back hitting hard, and felt a large boot pressing forcedly on her neck.
Out of the complete nothingness, a man's sadistically grinning face appeared like it was ripping through fabric as it continued down to unravel his form. Another man came up behind the one choking her and walked pass to swing the door open.
"Jasper, run!"
The boot dug harder into her throat, feeling the pressure in her head building as she struggled to remove his foot. Heavy stomping shoes hurriedly faded as they chased after Jasper, making her worry for the red gem and herself, looking around to find anything to assist her.
Under the table of toppings was a shard of glass, she reached for it and quickly slashed his ankle, then kicked him under the belt. She climbed to her feet and dashed out of the backroom to be greeted by the other man. He swung his arms towards her which she dodged and crawled under his legs to the exit in front of her.
Her ankle was grabbed and rolled on her back to aim her other leg to kick him right in the throat. He coughed and held his neck, but still held tightly on her ankle, getting another kick to the face and finally letting go.
The first man yelled at his partner and rounded the counter. She didn't waste time and jumped up to grasp the doorknob and force it wide open to come face to face with a surprised third party. Arms bear-hugged her body and pulled her from the door while she struggled and made her legs into deadly weapons.
The new person came in and closed the door to relock it, then asked what the hell is going on. The men explained while the individual walked to the backroom and studied the damage to the secret door, peeking over their shoulder in disappointment.
"You barely captured the girl and couldn't chase down another kid. Not only that, you didn't see what they look like. Pathetic," they coldly stated.
The men shivered.
Crystalis continued to fight, growing more violent in desperation. The man holding her complained and asked if he could just break her by snapping her bones. The other asked if he could strangle her until her neck broke.
A disappointed sigh escaped the stranger. "You two are terrible, I'm considering resigning you two to different jobs."
The men instantly pleaded, not wanting to work in the lab or deal with the patients. They pretended to think it over and replied they'll reconsider with an evil grin. Then they looked at Crystalis, ordering her legs to be restrained. She kicked the man in the stomach and jaw, fighting his hands before they gripped onto her tightly.
The stranger approached one of the counters and reached into a drawer, rummaging inside, then took out a case and popped it open to reveal a syringe. They went over to the young woman with it in hand, nearly getting bit by her which they chuckled at, and roughly grabbed her jaw.
Her head was forced to the one side and felt the needle pressing into her skin, then soon watched her vision get blurry and her limbs going weak. The stranger smirked at her as consciousness vanished.
~~~~
Crystalis slowly woke up and blinked her eyes to see white above her. She jolted up and found herself in a padded room with a toilet and a single mattress she was currently on. She checked her person for any damages or changes to find a few: her hair chopped to above the shoulders, her earrings gone, clothes now a white long sleeved shirt, pants and low ankle socks, and her left wrist.
Freshly inked into her skin were the numbers '198'. Her memories of what happened slammed against the back of her head and began panicking on how doomed she was. She held her head and tried to think up a plan or something to do in this situation when a door in the wall opened to reveal two large men. They came in and grabbed her, dragging her out in to a hallway and forcing her down in a wheelchair, then restraint her arms and legs.
The chair rolled down a narrow grayish hallway, heavy metal doors on each side of her. Screams and cries could be faintly heard through the doors, setting the reality further in her. The hallway opened up to a center desk and more hallways leading to other sections starting from A to G. People ran through and out of the different halls, pushing victims or carts of substances she didn't want to know of what.
They rolled her inside an elevator and saw a panel with four buttons where the second button was pressed. When the doors reopened, another center desk but with only three hallways instead of seven. She left the elevator and was taken down one of the halls, seeing more of the second floor.
Pale blue walls and rows of dark metal doors with windows. Sounds of voices and chatter faintly reached her ears before jumping up at a sudden yell, then a scream. Her heart sank as it faded away and balled up her fists.
The two men stopped and knocked on a door, making a loud echoing bang and swinging the door open. The room was empty except for a metal table in the middle and a chair which had someone sitting in it. The person smiled at seeing her being rolled in and placed across from them.
"Undo the restraints, I want my patient to be comfortable," their voice came out sickly gentle and controlling.
The restraints were snapped off and the men left while she rubbed her wrists. The door slammed shut. The air in the room turned painfully cold when the two stared at each other, their eyes digging into her. She stared back with a pissed off expression, feeling her nerves going all over the places and wanting to turn away.
They have earthy brown hair shaved on the sides and longish on the top, brownish black eyes, skin of light medium almond, and a single scar across their mouth. Their facial features are both masculine and feminine, and neither at the same time.
They broke eye contact first and leaned back in their chair to look at the clipboard in their hand, then spoke, "I'm impressed how you found yourself here. Never expected a patient would show up and plead for me to take them in." They chuckled.
"You're disgusting." Their eyes peeked up at her.
"Disgusting? What a harsh assumption. You know nothing about me, but yet you make a claim like that." They playfully smiled.
"You kidnapped innocent people to experiment on them, turn them into things abnormal and inhuman. It's not an assumption, it's a fact."
They placed the clipboard down, unfazed by the insult, and suggested learning a bit about each other since they're now doctor and patient. She scoffed at the idea, but they stated there's plenty things she doesn't know. They started off by retelling their childhood from how loving and supportive their parents are, how they grew up adventurous and happy, how they were the top student in every grade, how they pursued medicine.
Their tale was of a normal person, not one with a twisted or troubled past based on the description of their words. However, they commented on how they became curious one day, curious on what would happen if you reattached different body parts to different locations of the body. What if you used different ingredients for medicine and injected into a person, what would happen?
They gave a low chuckle at remembering the beginning days of their "research," how difficult it was to start and find trustworthy people to share this idea.
Crystalis listened to this twisted mind, coming to realize who was really in front of her. They stood up from their seat and circled around the table to lean down towards her and ask for her to retell her tale.
"No, not interested, Dr. Fear." She glared up at them.
They laughed heartily at the nickname, then gripped her face tightly in anger. "How the fuck did you find me?"
Their nails dug into her cheeks and drew a fine line of blood. She grabbed their hand to remove the small knives almost poking holes through her cheeks.
"Answer me, miss. I have became a bit... impatient at finding out your knowledge of this place and what goes on in here. Please, tell me the name of the person who informed you of my hospital. Was it possibly one of my doctors? Nurses? A man finally realizing he was fooled?"
They squeezed harder and watched her wince in pain. "No one told me."
"Hm?" They pulled her closer to them. "No one? I don't believe that for a second."
"Are you sure you aren't terrible at finding hiding places? I'm surprised the police haven't found you yet, but it won't take long." She weakly smirked at them.
"Won't take long?" Their lip twitched.
"My friend escaped and probably has already told the police where to find you." She remembered the man chasing Jasper came back with no other person in hand, meaning Jasper got away. She can be saved.
They chuckled and switched their hand to her throat. "Sorry to break it to you, but your friend abandoned you and won't risk being arrested after you two broke into stores."
She smirked wider. "Oh, but you clearly don't know my friend. We made a promise to involve the police and get arrest without issue. Maybe they have been arrested and is sitting in a jail cell right now. If so, that means you can't touch them."
They gritted their teeth as she continued, "it's only a matter of time until they find you. Will you run away, or will you die with the ship? I wonder who will betray you first, someone close to you, or someone you least expec-"
They slammed her face on the table and heard her hiss in pain. They pressed her face hard on the cold metal surface, her nails scratching at their hand to release her. They growled under their breath.
Their research, their experiments, their hard work was going to go up in smokes because a random girl found where they were. She knows who they are, where to look, what they have been doing. She made a plan to catch them and bring them before the law, she planned to ruined their desire to satisfy their darkest curiosity. When will everything to be destroyed? How long do they have before it's too late to run?
They crashed her face further into the table as their thoughts circled around in their mind.
They need a way out when the police do show up and take everything apart. They can't rebuild in a different location, they can't risk losing everything again. Why did this girl have to ruin it all before it could seriously begin?
They harshly pulled her head backwards and gripped her jaw to force her to look at them.
If they were going to be arrested by the law and found out for their crimes, then they will play with her until her hero comes to save her.
"Since you're struck here till the law can find you. I'll take my time savoring our time together. Hmm-" they tapped a sharp nail on her lip- "what should I do first? There's so many options on what I can test on you."
They grinned at her while her heart sank. They described the options, drawing along her body or gesturing with their hand on how they could do during an operation, leaving no details unspoken. She tried to keep her face neutral to not give them the satisfaction of her fear.
They huffed at her disinterested expression and gave a disappointed pout. Her cheeks were teasingly pinched and rambled on how squishy her face was. She slapped their hands away and rubbed her injured face as they chuckled and retreated the clipboard.
A simple knock on the door informed the men they were done, stepping back to watch them restraint her limbs and roll her out. They asked the one of them to bandage the woman's wounds and went down a different direction in the hallway, but Crystalis could catch their exiting words.
"If only she was the 200th patient."
Crystalis was back in the padded room and watched the door close, disappearing into the wall. She lay on the mattress to cover her face with her hands and comprehend the fact she met Dr. Fear, and just pissed them off. She knew she shouldn't have done what she did, but seeing the hint of panic was a bit satisfying to know she made them scared.
She rolled over on her side and curled up with the blanket, wondering what she could do right now. Her eyes moved down to her wrist and scratched at the numbers, mocking her for how many people are or have suffered at the hands of this sicko.
When did this begin? How did this start? To build a hidden prison underneath a city, they shouldn't be surprised someone found it. Then again, how did they build it and have no one be suspicious? She wondered.
She sighed and shut her eyes to maybe daydream or sleep the hours away. However, thoughts on Jasper had her wondering how they were doing. She knew they wouldn't abandon her to save their skin. Their lack of experiences and not having the same mindset of everyday people is a charm that's well appreciated. She was glad they were staying with her, not only did she not feel alone in a strange world, she has someone to rely on.
A yawn escaped her and scooted around to make herself comfortable while her mind imagined scenarios and slowly drafted off into sleep.
Her body was dropped inside chilly water and sank to the bottom when hands scooped her up and held her like a mother cradling her child. The person pulled her close to their chest as the water lifted her hair. A hand stroked her face, soothing the pain inflicted on it, and a lullaby was hummed.
She opened her eyes slightly to see pinks and white swirling together like paint, losing the strength to keep them open and shut them once again. She nuzzled against the woman and listened to her song.
When she awoke, the gentleness from the dream still lingered on her skin. The chilly water, the warm hands holding her, the sweet voice comforting her. She was confused but didn't complain for it eased her heart of the anxiety for just a moment.
A noise jolted her fully awake and glanced over to see something pushed inside the room. She stood up and cautiously inspected the black rectangular box and opened it up to see a bottled water, container of liquidity mush and a bag of dried fruit.
She made a face and set it on the bed to start eating. It was blend and flavorless but better than gagging inducing food. She leaned against the wall and slowly chewed to give her something to do while she waited. The box was tossed in front of the door and lay back down on the mattress just to witness the meal box disappearing in flat air.
Another meal was sent to the room a few hours later and ate it without a fuss, enjoying the dried fruit and saving the water to drink throughout the day. Boredom eventually had enough and put her to sleep again, having a meaningless slumber until the black rectangle rudely awoke her.
When the door opened, she was posed with one leg over the other and her hands behind her head. The large men came in and placed her in the wheelchair again, rolling her down the hallway once more. The sounds of the victims echoed through the heartless tunnel of doors, sending chills along her skin. The center desk came in view where Dr. Fear stood.
"Good evening, miss. How well did you sleep?" They greeted her intoxicatingly sweet.
Evening? Does that mean it's night time?
She didn't respond and gave a sour look. They brushed it off with a smile, then walked behind her and took the wheelchair.
"I thought I would give you a tour around our lovely hospital since you're my special patient," they sweetly informed with a hint of malice.
Dread rooted deeply within her when the wheelchair moved towards section D. They talked her ear off about the new discoveries they made, leaving no detail out on their twisted delight of what they found. She clenched her fists at the explanations worsening.
People moved pass by and greeted the doctor, sometimes even complimenting them. They pretended to act bashful and tease the nurses who have clear affection towards them. One of the nurses grabbed Crystalis' face unexpectedly and grinned at maybe playing with her. His hand was slapped and warned to not touch what is theirs; their eyes threateningly glared.
He instantly backed off and apologized for the disrespect, quickly escaping before he could mess up further.
They giggled at their power over everyone. "Don't worry, miss." They brushed her hair behind her ear. "I won't anyone touch you while I'm here."
The comforting but menacing tone sent her heart sinking to her stomach before the wheelchair continued down the hallway again. Sounds of victims crying and screaming grew closer, making her fingers ache from squeezing them too much at the fear the victims were experiencing.
How long did they stay down here? How much have they endured?
The sounds blended together in a terrifying noise of death, wanting so badly to cover her ears and not listen to everyone's suffering. The wheelchair stopped and mentally cursed out at them. She didn't want to be here, she didn't want to hear this.
They stood in front of her and kneeled down which she immediately turned her head away. They held her chin and forced her to look at them, clearly enjoying this, this pain they inflicted on everyone who was brought here. Tears rolled down her cheeks at reaching the breaking point of her strength.
They cooed and wiped her eyes just for her bite their hand. They jerked their arm back and stared down the already purple bite mark underneath their thumb. Their expression darkened and gripped her jaw harshly, receiving an intense glare from her.
Then they giggled. They let go of her jaw and got behind the wheelchair to push it through the "patient" rooms.
I can see Malleus giving Yuu a noble title if the nobility of Briar Valley gives them a hard time and he just responds with, "oh, don't like me spending time with a commoner? Well they're no longer a commoner now." And/or he would offer that because he can.
I have planned Alice to be titled as Viscountess with two maids, a knight, a bedchamber in the castle, and the expensive accessories and clothing that comes with being a noblewoman. But I don't know if she gets that title when she dates Malleus or naturally even if she stays friends with him.
Of course if the friends option is chosen, it's not going to be handed over to her, she will prove herself into being rewarded with the title. The reason for using that as a reward is because of her rank as commoner taking a part in what happened that led to the reward by the Queen.
I thought on Book 8's possible length and I do believe it will be long, not because it's right after Book 7, but because it's (most likely) the finale book before the game ends. When I think about what would be discussed, these are what I think of.
Grim's story
Grim's overblot
Yuu going home
Yuu's feelings on not being useful
Maybe who Crowley is
Maybe Yuu overbloting
The time loop
Ramshackle's past
Mickey's connection to Yuu
The school/The Great Seven
And there's a chance something will be thrown at us we don't expect. Also, we got a glimpse on how powerful OB Grim is before we enter the prologue. With what we had to do to snap Malleus out of his OB and OB Grim is clearly more stronger than OB Malleus, how will we snap Grim out of his? I imagine finding a solution will take a big chunk in Book 8.
Silver, Sebek, Ace and Deuce stand in the hallway and watch Malleus drag Levan by his collar, excited, as Lilia floats in front of the raven.
Alice joins the group: "Malleus wants to show Levan the Gargoyle Research Club, and Lilia wants to bully him before returning back to his dorm."
Lilia failing to contain his laughter: "You offered."
Levan already accepting his fate: "I know."
In the past, Levan was a kind and fair man, not one to act/speak with harshness and always solved issues in non-violent ways. However, he wasn't a doormat, he could easily silence a room and put people in their place by his words which held authority when he was angry or serious.
Now in the present, that changed. His anger holds fury, his seriousness is chilling, his glares are terrifying. He's still a kind and fair man, always solving issues with a level head and presenting himself as gentle and friendly.
However, his expression alone can silence you and he doesn't shy away from using physical aggression if you angered him enough to dig his nails into your head and smile through gritted teeth.
More sketches of Levan.
When he was younger, his hair was long (pass the middle of the back) and always tied back with a ribbon. But in private/downtime, he would have his hair parted and over his chest like Malleus.
After he returned to his original form, he cut his hair above his shoulders. His hair is naturally wavy.
The pose is based on Malleus' and his hand is touching his face.
What his glare looks like. And my attempt to draw his smug expression (had to look at Malleus' and struggled).
Glancing around the ballroom, everyone's faces, including the young woman's friends, are blacked out as if someone scratched out their faces with a black pen. The people she grew to distrust after Malleus' overblot, the darker or lighter the pen scratches are is how much she doesn't trust them.
Ortho's face is completely clear along with Kalim and Grim. Malleus, Silver, Ace and Deuce's faces have slight scratches. Everyone else has deep scratches, some slightly darker or lighter than the others.
But Lilia's, it looks like a splotch of ink pool over his face.
Spiraling
"After Malleus' overblot, I finally realized their love for me is only temporary. They'll hate me immediately if they found out I knew Malleus was going to overblot. I admit I trusted them before everything happened, but now, any trust I had vanished once I realized they will throw me to the wolves the second they find out how much I hidden. I can't depend on people who I'm dancing on a blade's edge for."
