every time i read someone complaining about all the teens in SOTR knowing each other on some level i roll my eyes bc it’s clear that some of you really have no idea what it's like to live in a small town……….
my hometown has less than 8,000 citizens (about the size of district 12) and i can guarantee: everyone in the same age group knows each other on some level. there's only ONE high school here so of course we all know each other?!?!?

Everyone arguing Plutarch is a bad person, please go and read up on spy operatives throughout history. The man was a deep cover agent for the rebellion for 20+ years. He worked right under President Snow's nose and managed to successfully plan and execute a rebellion that overthrew an authoritarian government.
Look at Washington's spies during the Revolutionary War. Did he view them as expendable? Absolutely. Was he getting his hands dirty directly? Of course not. The man had a revolution to manage.
You'll argue Plutarch took advantage of the tributes and that he pushed Katniss into the Mockingjay role. How is he any different from Beetee? Yes, Beetee was in an impossible situation after Ampert was reaped, but he still involved Haymitch. He still involved Wiress, who had only just one her Games and couldn't have been more than nineteen. He risked the lives of every child who unknowingly snuck explosives into the arena.
How is Plutarch any different than Cinna? He literally turned her into the Mockingjay by altering the dress for her interview. Cinna designed an entire suit costume for a teenage Katniss that was complete with armor to protect her, meaning he knew the role of the Mockingjay would put her in danger.
Cinna sewed the nightlock pill into the shoulder of the Mockingjay suit to ensure that if Katniss was captured, she would have the ability to end things before she could betray the cause.
Was Plutarch a morally gray man with questionable alliances? Yes, yes, he was. But that's the entire point. There's something called the greater good, and that's what Plutarch helped potential rebels like Haymitch understand. They may risk everything for a future that they would never see, but it didn't stop them. Plutarch himself admitted that they may never manage to succeed in ending the Games in their lifetime, but that it shouldn't stop them from doing everything in their power to make it happen.
Where would we be today if the people who came before us had simply stopped trying to make change happen because they realized it wouldn't happen in their lifetime?
#I’ll always defend my folks doing it for the greater good#literally someone HAS to make the hard decisions#or there’ll never be change#even if that in itself entails morally gray decisions#but i’m also a dumbledore girlie

Effie Trinket was the type of woman to drive a metallic-purple Mini Cooper, hang a very purple, fluffy dice in the mirror and stick a huge holographic “Hot girls hit curbs” sticker on the trunk door….

I would like to know why so many people hate the idea of haymitch being a lover boy. He had a loving mom and brother, he had a support system, even with the loss he had in his life he was positive and in love. He learned the entirety of a poem to quote it on her birthday and bartered and traded for books, even if they didn't have anything to do with something she liked because she loves to read so much. Why is it so detrimental that at one point, before he was traumatized and lost EVERYTHING, he was kind and happy and a lover boy? Why are people so mad that he wasn't the biggest hater who drank and was awful to people at the age of 16? Why wouldn't you want him to have felt joy and love at one point in his life so he knows that he has found it again (which he does, by the way, by means of Katniss and Peeta. Those are who he tries to stay alive for after the sun rises. Those are his family. He wanted to go after it was all over and he made a promise to LD that he would stay for them.) Why is him being a kinder person before his entire world was shattered and he had to rebuild on his own so hated?
.
#this!!#i also think it makes super sense and is actually how I imagined him all this time deep down anyway??#because guys!#we get Katniss’ bias in the original trilogy#and she’s not always positively biased towards haymitch and you can very much see it in the text#and second#this is a man who chose solitary confinement gor 25 years#only to let people in again that he loves very much#you don’t do that if you don’t have the capacity for it anyway!#it makes me so mad#it doesn’t make him less of an interesting character that he actually is a loving and caring person#he has always been#you can see it in the og text#it’s even more interesting to show how trauma and response patterns literally influence your personality#plus!! again katniss is an unreliable narrator too#just like i wouldn’t believe every word haymitch says about lenore dove#don’t believe everything katniss says about anyone

Summary: “They’re not muttations,” Plutarch said, still smiling at the huge skeletons surrounding them. “They’re dinosaurs. I loved reading about them as a child.”
or. The one in which Hunger Games meets Jurassic World.
So, I’m writing a Jurassic World AU, because I think that will be fun!

absolutely criminal that they gave effie a fan in the scene where katniss and peeta are getting their scores and she didn’t get to whack anyone (haymitch) with it or at least dramatically whack it open and wave it all over the place

Adding attributes to a character to make them similar to a loved one who passed is actually embarrassing as hell. Effie isn't a musician. She isn't rebellious (until it's convenient for her, at least). But now that we know what Haymitch's girl was like, suddenly I see people acting like that's who Effie is like, because yall finally know the kind of character haymitch actually likes. So you can hate lenore dove for those attributes but once we put them onto the blonde white girl whose older and "saves the day" for haymitch supposedly, those traits are perfect and godly. Make it make sense please.
.
#sorry I don’t care for ship disputes or whatever#but I just find it hilarious that ‘being a musician’#or musically involved/talented would be any measure of compatibility#like - to say it with Katniss - it is literally one of the most irrelevant things ever#it’s not a marker for any type haymitch might have#because it doesn’t say a lot about a character#like it is relevant that LD is Covey and music is the most prominent part of covey culture#it’s as if you were saying Katniss’s type is painters or bakers#like no#it’s relevant Peeta is a painter and a baker because it is relevant to and symbolic of him as a character and#but it’s not about the painting or the baking 😭
