#‘my tattoos’ doesn’t necessarily mean vallaslin#which i think is an important side step for rooks who aren’t dalish & didn’t get vallaslin & are STILL trying to connect with their heritage#i have elf rooks with vallaslin; with regular tattoos; with scarification; and bare-faced#and all of them have looked for and found connection with both the dalish and with city elves#also— one of my suranas has tattoos that she considers vallaslin because she was stolen as a small child and wanted to remember#they aren’t ‘real’ and she barely has any memories of her clan but they’re still important#the real issue here is that multiple origins and multiple races means that the writers can’t get truly nuanced and specific#there’s a limited budget for voice acting with four races and six backgrounds#inquisition was absolutely horrendous in this regard— a dalish inquisitor doesn’t know anything about their own mythology#even origins is pretty bad— there are very few opportunities to actually react to things based on your backstory#and that’s with a voiceless protagonist!#i walked into veilguard with precisely one planned protag and i havent even played him yet#because i needed to adjust how he fit into the backstory the game gives rook and the story the game is telling#god. i’ve gone completely off topic. sorry.#my point is that in a game like this you have to understand the limitations of the writing#and be willing and able to work around those limitations#some things won’t ever line up precisely#some things rook says won’t align exactly with how you interpret them#and maybe. if rook says something you think is ignorant. maybe rook is just a little ignorant. clumsy with their language. still learning.#maybe that makes them more interesting.#dragon age#da:tv

Cursed to be stuck inside this ancient amulet for years but you know I was kind of getting used to it. The solitude had eaten away just enough of my sanity that I'm pretty sure it only would've been a few more days before I started hallucinating some really neat shit.
But then. THEN. This fuckass twink descendant of my mortal enemies picks up my amulet. Takes right out of the sacred chamber. I guess it was finally a ruin now? Worse timing possible, too late to stop me going insane and right before the insanity could pay off.
So some clueless idiot is actually wearing me for the first time in centuries. I'm gonna wreck this dude's shit, I don't care if he is weirdly nice and kind of pretty in the face department. The second I accumulate enough power I'm breaking out of here and making him regret being born.

anyway what the anti crowd won't tell you is that veilguard is an extraordinarily brave, timely, and valuable game
having so many trans characters, having a nonbinary character realizing they're nonbinary within the game!
showing a low income community in minrathous instead of the upper echelon! showing them as real people with rich personal lives!
having a remarkably diverse cast of characters!
and the entire premise... rook - symbolizing, among many other things, community and support systems - versus solas (my beloved) - symbolizing, among other things, an isolated sense of responsibility, an unwillingness to rely on others. this is an important point to make!
