It irks me unreasonably when people will baselessly argue that the absence of something is automatically the opposite of the thing. That logic would apply to everything, and render it null. The opposite of a thing can't just lack the features of the said thing, but have the opposite features. Why would darkness be the opposite of sunlight? Sunlight is natural, comes from space, enables the existence of life, and feels so nice that both people and animals go out of their way to bask in it when they have the chance. Darkness is also natural, does not come from any particular source, does not harm living things, and even though some people are afraid of the dark, being in darkness isn't physically painful.

The opposite of sunlight would have to be someting that is unnatural, comes from planet Earth, actively kills living things, is painful to experience, and people seek to avoid exposure to it at all costs. The opposite of sunlight is weaponised nuclear radiation.

In average circumstances, dark is a lack of light. However as we can see throughout the entire Deltarune, it's not really the case in the dark fountain's type of darkness (how strange it didn't sound). You can see how the darkness literally leaks into the light world, somehow replacing the light. It's not just a lack, but rather a literal opposite of the light — some kind of, you know, negative photons. When you try to go below zero, you'll get to -1, you won't find some kind of new numbers.

So, when we talk about the light world, we can try to perceive things as the opposite of the dark world. Everything is how it is. There's no illusion in the world itself. But you can always shift your perception to have some kind of illusion. A lot of these moments are actually examples of coping mechanism:

Something happens — it really doesn't matter how traumatic it is, it just should be enough to shock you, even for a moment — and your brain can't handle it. Your brain can't handle the truth, so it comes up with a little lie, just to have things to be perceived more easily in the moment. After you get out of this shocking situation, you can properly address the problem and deal with this.

It's like sugarcoating a bitter pill.

If you don't have sugar to sweeten the pill, you might throw up from its bitterness.

The truth is always perceived as something inevitable, as something that the one will crave always; as something that you need and you need as much as possible. And it's part of the deal. But sometimes you don't need the entire truth as it is; you also need to feed yourself with some delusions, just to be able to move forward and not be crashed by the truth. There's a reason why you can't look at the sun without your sunglasses.

But there's a chance I didn't really get the question "what will happen" right — maybe you,op, meant that if The Roaring caused by having too much dark fountains (dipping in your delusions so much, that you don't know where the reality anymore; and when the worst nightmare comes, you won't be able wake up), then having no dark fountains might also cause some kind of catastrophe (you don't have any hope anymore, because hope is a hard earned delusion, birthed in the blood of the desperation; how come you to move forward now, when your goal seems to be ridiculously impossible? But with enough belief, even a child managed to refuse death. Pity, that belief is also a delusion).

I would say some kind of cosmic horror might happen, or maybe something keen to The Roaring but light version. Just to keep up with the analogies. But it'd be more interesting for someone to figure out this type of stuff by themselves, rather than me writing out everything.

Let your fantasy roam free. Just remember to touch grass sometimes.
