Do you think Shang Qinghua ever showed up at the ice palace unexpectedly and found Mobei Jun lounging around WITHOUT his tits on display? Qinghua was just in the zone one day, and finished up the final draft of a treaty he thought was going to take him weeks to work out in a matter of days, and he's so excited to get the entire project over with that he goes straight to Mobei Jun to get it signed, and then suddenly he's finding out that apparently Mobei Jun has a whole set of normal robes that he only wears when Qinghua isn't around? That don't show his entire chest down to his naval? And for some reason the entire court is staring at him like he's just walked in on a major secret, and is Mobei Jun's face . . .a blushier shade of blue than usual?

Headcanon that SQH is sentimental about his characters and it occasionally slips out. Even more occasionally, the characters catch what he says.

SQH watches a teenage LQQ defeat a demon single-handedly for the first time and he says with a fond smile “you’ve already become so strong. I knew you would be amazing.”

LQQ short-circuits, completely struck speechless. In the following years, he catches himself showing off in front of SQH, chasing the glow of that soft praise.

SQH looks at SJ with an expression of profound sorrow. “I’m sorry your life was so hard. You were just a child.”

SJ will never admit that his throat tightened and his eyes burned at the quiet words, somehow full of genuine understanding even though SQH couldn’t have known SJ’s past. But sometimes, when he finds himself drowning in bitterness, he finds a reason to be near SQH and that wordless sympathy.

SQH stares at YQY’s practiced smile and gives his own wry smile. “Ever the people pleaser, Yue Qi. Your life would have been better if you were a little more selfish. Maybe I put a little too much of me in you.”

YQY’s smile drops, partly in bafflement and partly because it felt like he had been given permission to put down the mask he wore to cover all that was broken underneath. After that, during the times when he is a little too tired to don the mask, he would decide to discuss sect matters with SQH.

SQH sees LBH for the first time and his eyes practically sparkle. “You’re going to be incredible,” he says. Then he smiles softly. “You always have been.”

LBH stares after SQH and finds his gaze catching onto him whenever they pass. Until his gaze is caught by another.

SQH looks at the prince who is barely hanging onto consciousness. He holds a stone in his hand and raises it over his head before limply dropping it back to his side. His smile is self deprecating. “You’re more handsome than I ever imagined.”

The prince who would become MBJ saw the love in SQH’s eyes and found himself fiercely wanting that fond gaze to stay on him.

No one really talks about the odd things SQH says sometimes. There are whispered speculations. Is he a seer? A god?

Whatever he is, he sees the people of this world better than anyone else.

(In an extreme, crack-ish version of this, SQH can’t fully resist the urge to dote on his characters and he gives a bunch of them a massive mommy complex lmao)

Qinghua is the weakest link. They only count on him for stuff like numbers and facts. He’s a scaredy cat. He’s not dependable. He’s still a part of the family, just sort of like the eccentric little kid that is still scared of the dark that everyone sometimes forgets about.

Mobei Jun and the other demons POV:

Qinghua is RUTHLESS. Whatever happened to that one diplomat who made one sly comment about Mobei Jun? What about that time the demoness tried to seduce Mobei Jun and ended up with a burnt face? Or what about the fact that Qinghua drops CRUCIAL pieces of information at the right time, right place and then pretends like nothing happened?

The guy is SNEAKY. He’s sly. And more importantly, he’s POWERFUL. He’s the guy you have to watch out for or else, oops. You got fired. Wonder how that happened.

The weakness is all an act. The crying is hiding the true mastermind underneath.

And Mobei Jun can’t help but find it sexy.
