I appreciate The Empire Strikes Back for being the only time I can think of when a character just shot their enemy as soon as they saw them without pausing or having a dramatic moment beforehand.

The largest mass shooting in American history was a hate crime against gay people. Don’t ever forget that.

If I see one more person freaking out over drag in theater I'm going to scream. Drag in theater isn't new, it has been going on since Elizabethan England, do NOT piss me off
Like okay, yes, Early Modern English drag did originate due to women not being permitted to act in guilds and on stage, which is misogynistic and is definitely not something to idolize, but my point is that drag in theater is not a) new or b) out of place.
I'm so glad that theater is, in a way, making a comeback within popular culture (at least somewhat), but we have to recognize the fact that theater has always been queer and has always had roots in queer culture. Becoming mainstream does not erase the fact that queer culture has influenced theater, and theater has in turn amplified queer voices; just because a bunch of people are becoming newly exposed to and enjoying theater and performing arts doesn't mean that this "phenomenon" of drag in theater or queer voices in theater is "new" or "woke."
I don't want to gatekeep theater because it's an art form and it's truly a beautiful thing that I'm seeing so many people experiencing it and learning about it, but we cannot just choose to recognize the flashy, pretty parts of something we find interesting and ignore the history and importance of the art form as a whole.

what annoys me about explaining evolution to people who don’t think it’s real is that everyone’s idea of how it works seems to be from this

Whereas the reality is far more like

This broadway season is about corpses. About preserving someone that has died or holding on to a dying concept: vaudeville, fame, youth. That a person is both a physical thing and a narrative we tell. The ephemeral nature of living and the grim reality of loss. And of course, Betty Boop
