Any pronouns including 'it'. This is a sideblog so I can be cringe about media depictions of Loki.

Mozilla, in its finite wisdom, embedded LLM bots into recent versions of Firefox for the vitally-important purpose of… naming tab groups. Now, some users are noticing CPU and power usage spikes caused by a background process called Inference.
Ugh. Reminder again for Firefox users to visit your about:config page, search for the browser.ml.chat.enabled key, and set that to false:
If yours says true then double-click it until it reads false.
Doing that turns off the AI chatbot features in Firefox, but also the stupid new LLM tab-naming feature that's rolling out.

"i do not dream of labour" is one of the worst pseudo-marxist taglines that western leftists have co-opted because when you ask them what they do dream of, they say traveling, studying, and creating art. broski, who's flying the plane to take you to prague? who's the security at the library with the texts you're studying? who are the clerks in the museum showcasing your art? like bro, you do dream of labour. you just dream of someone else doing it so you don't have to! you merely want to outsource the labour and make it invisible.

I would literally not be able to do my job without Libgen. A lawsuit against it would be an untold blow to scholarship around the world. Shadow libraries like Libgen are a crowning achievement of access to educational resources.

thinking about that dishwasher poll and the reactions to it going around because, like, i grew up without a dishwasher, right, no one i knew in mexico had dishwashers, they were considered a first world luxury for lazy americans so it's in my culture to make fun of people who don't know how to wash dishes lol much like how no one had vacuums (indoor carpeting was completely alien) and they were associated with an inability or a refusal to put in the effort to sweep and mop. and it's part of the pattern of taking pride in hard labor + looking unfavorably upon conveniences when you can't afford them (which i think can be good and can be bad - depends, not what this post is about regardless) but in the case of dishwashers specifically, i don't think it's common knowledge for people who've never had them (like me, until less than a year ago) that they are not only extremely energy efficient but they use less than 10 liters of water when a running tap of water can use something like 5 liters of water per minute, give or take depending on pressure. unlike things like air conditioners or clothes dryers they are a solid instance of a technology that does what we want technology to do: save us time, effort, money, and reduce environmental impact. and that's really neat! now the problem is we need to kill a bunch of billionaires so that in the communist utopia everyone can have one of these bad boys in their communal kitchen
#i have never had a working dishwasher#the last place i rented had one but it didn't work and it was a shame bc my wrists hurt. the landlord's handyman couldn't figure it out#and the instruction videos didn't work#we just used it as a dish drying rack#current place doesn't have one nor a microwave D:#i need to get one...

Cover for my favorite fanfic, A Villain State Of Mind
Written for the Norsekink prompt: “SHIELD has Loki in custody, with the gag on to keep him from spellcasting, but they don’t really know what to DO with him. They can’t give him food or water or attempt to interrogate him with the gag on, and they don’t dare take it off. Their solution? Call in a telepath! But Charles Xavier may find more things in Loki’s head than SHIELD bargained for…”
I totally fell in love with this story and could not resist making my first fanfic cover.
#a villain state of mind#charles xavier#mcu!loki#fic rec#this is an excellent fic#<- prev i read it recently and have been reading this series#impressed by how the author gets loki even before the whole movies were out

I see the "protests are supposed to be disruptive" dragged out a lot for protests that are just disruptive. Protests certainly can be disruptive, but they're also supposed to do something.

there's been plenty of pushback against youtube's plan to age-check users by using an AI to analyze everyone's watching habits, but amidst that, i spotted this playlist circulating among some teens:
(picture is a reconstruction to protect the kids identity)
interesting! they're trying to trick the AI by watching videos that have a primarily adult viewer demographic? well im a curious fella so naturally i have to take a look-see, and

"there should be some kind of test you have to take before having kids" -> wrong, extremely dangerous and highkey eugenicist and racist "the youth should have safe and effective legal pathways at their disposal to make sure their human rights are constantly protected and upheld" -> based, centers the youth, gives minors more power to fight inequality and does not reinforce the idea that parents are immune to scrutiny from their kids

"I view the character as" can mean your actual interpretation of the canon and/or the version of the character that you like to play with in your mind sandbox.
For the first 3 options, it doesn't matter if the character is no longer a man to you, just that their gender is at least partially "woman" or woman-adjacent. For example, these options could include seeing the character as a cis woman, a binary trans woman, a bigender person who's both a man and a woman, etc. The lines between these things can be blurry so that's why cis and nonbinary/transmasc but still woman-adjacent are grouped together.
(Binary trans men and transmascs that aren't women in any way are not included because hopefully no one is saying "he's a woman to me" and meaning "I view this character as a trans man.")

#i don't say this but i've gone on bizarre tangents which is as close as i've gotten#unless you're doing transfem HCs/interpretations/reads for a character only said to be masc in cannon#i find it a bit offputting to be calling a self-proclaimed man a woman bc “he looks like one” or “is feminine”#and like they're not real; so i don't care as much as if it were real people. but it's still off-putting to me.#and i'd have to be familiar with your HCs; reads; and interpretations to know if i find it offputting so you'll get the benefit of the doub

Lisa Frankenstein and Renfield are an excellent double feature. Is there a third flick to make it a trio, or does that have yet to grace the silver screen?
#i unfortunately disliked both of these movies a lot.#i can admit lisa frankenstein was conceptually well done despite it just not being my thing and boring the fuck out of me#but renfield was just terrible. nic cage and the mobster lady were the only good things about it#hated the pop psych references; the cop akwafina character; it was meh. i was glad i didn't pay for it when i watched it

Eating breakfast at a restaurant was always a pain in the ass for me because I dislike the texture of egg (unless boiled. i can only eat it boiled like the fish man from Shape of Water), and I hate bacon, and sausages.

i distinctly remember the first time i went to a holiday inn free breakfast bar while on a family trip to the border and i got so fucking upset and confused that the food looked like this 💀

the distressed mexican parents of a melting down undiagnosed autistic 8-ish year old: don't worry white american breakfast food isn't real and cant hurt you
white american breakfast food:
#some of those breakfasts just look like desserts to me#i pretty much just eat oatmeal and a boiled egg + 2 pieces of toast bc sadly it's the only way i will eat egg. it's a texture thing...#i need egg for the convenient protein bc im quite hesitant to handle meat
