Came to the realization that in order to make part of Safe Travels more user friendly I need to redo over 50+ art assets (furniture/decorations) that have multiple parts to each one whoopie🙃

@satanicspinosaurus I hope you don't mind me making a new post to reply to this-- The story I put on my reblog just made the original post chunky so I wanted it to be easier for people to find Burrows's lore >.<
Burrow's is actually missing their right eye, I'm not sure if my art conveyed it but those are mushrooms coming out of where it used to be. They also have fungal growth on their right arm, similar to the what's on the spore zombies you can resurrect as a sporemancer.
When Burrows awoke from the landing of the nautiloid, they had very strong intrusive thoughts/urges regarding their very physically active tadpole. They feel it moving a lot even by the time they reach Baldur's Gate. So in order to remove it (decided this before even knowing Volo would do something similar) Burrows tried to get around their eye and manually grab the tadpole/remove it. They ended up maiming themself, and got an infection-- In the end, since they are a spore druid, they managed to fight off the resulting sickness with a fungi that eats bacteria.
The problem is the fungi is "beneficial" for eating the bacteria, so it can't be healed away. And since Burrows is so strongly tied to nature for their survival (tl;dr backstory reasons) the fungi can only survive if it can feed off the bacteria, which makes the bacteria "beneficial" as nutrients for the fungi. So they're just kind of. Stuck with it. For now anyway.

This…. Is not the first time that this has happened to them unfortunately 😅 (I imagine this time is probably the second or third time.)
Burrows generally likes to stay at camp to take care of everyone while smaller groups go out questing. Astarion I think is similar, since he hates to be used for the unrewarded good of the public, but one time he steps out without them—
I’m a subscriber to a theory that was going around a while ago, that Astarion has little more than blood vials and books that he takes with him but there IS a blanket in his tent and at Cazador’s manor there is a room full of made beds, with one surprisingly without its covers. The theory was in the 200 years he served as a spawn this was his one belonging and comfort item that made it through with him.
Burrows, having not peeled off the layers to get to that particular tidbit of his history cleans up………. They wash the blanket and hang it to dry but while it’s drying it’s missing and Astarion assumes it’s gone for good. There’s only one person at camp besides Scratch and the owl bear cub that would go through his stuff without him knowing and it’s Burrows. They don’t /think/ and they’ve done it before (another tale). So he finds them and corners them and they’re so confused and tired from cleaning they don’t make the blanket turn up fast enough before they’ve gotten themselves stuck… like this 🙂‍↕️

Fun facts about Burrows I have nowhere to put right now:
All of their socks have grass stains on the front from kneeling in the forest to commune and meditate
This is terrible for their already bad knees that have been smashed in more than once to dissuade them from escaping the Underdark. They wear braces under their clothes to help
They escaped the Underdark as a teen, and renamed themself Burrows as that’s where they slept to hide from mercenaries that sought them out
They are an author of Anti-Lloth deprogramming textbooks that are peddled throughout Faerun but obviously banned in Menzobarranzan.
They save their coin in hopes of being able to pay to have their family escorted out of the Underdark, however they ignore that as high ranking priestesses and politicians they would have little reason to come quietly
They drink mixtures of potions and herb mixtures they procure/grind themself to numb Lloth and Underdark related paranoia and the physical aches that remain from their multiple failed escape attempts
They take their job as their group’s chef very seriously and are intimidated when anyone else tries to make their own food. They’re afraid if they aren’t useful the group will move on without them while they sleep
They sleep poorly because of this
They take their job as Astarion’s breakfast lunch and dinner even more seriously because he is the first person they’ve been infatuated with before

Dungeon Meshi/Erosion Similarities
I don’t think I’ve talked about Erosion much on this blog (though I’d like to) but watching up to episode 8 of Dungeon Meshi before bed has made me notice some similar themes in them— and therefore some reasons why I’m so excited about both watching more DM and writing more Erosion
I’ll just info dump under the cut but! If you like learning about ecology casually I think it’s worth a read
SO OBVIOUSLY I don’t have a massive reference point for dungeon Meshi as a whole but what has been shown in the anime has hit a lot of points that I enjoy touching on.
Respecting your food and where it comes from, valuing life as a source of nourishment and a cycle, and understanding that interfering with any other ecological structure has long term effects that impact those cycles are a few things.
I think dungeon Meshi is really effective at getting the viewer to understand that these structures exist and how interacting with them can be healthy or to a detriment. Marcille explains how things must be structured to form cycles of life in a dungeon and Senshi is great at explaining sustainable interaction.
I think Erosion takes that a step further in abstraction: assuming the reader has some knowledge of where food tends to come from, and the hands that handle it before it arrives at the table for most people, it then tries to explain what things go /wrong/ when the structures and cycles are not respected and preserved (in a world that has toyed with these things for just long enough to show how things are crumbling and will crumble)
I think both show that interacting positively and productively with food is both rewarding yet “brutal” and bitter sweet. In Erosion Everett is already aware of the sacrifices that need to be made to bring meals to fruition through livestock and crops no matter the methods used, but Ambriel has to LEARN that just because getting food a certain way seems prettier or more detached (lots of vegan/organic options promote this) doesn’t guarantee sustainable or healthy results. A common example is the negative carbon footprint that pleathers have despite not taking an animals life to be produced (costing lives in the breakdown of the material)
I think dungeon Meshi plants the foundation for that, especially in the Kelpie episode, that resources can be raised with love and valued and still consumed with some “brutality” that still shows reverence to the source. Like I really love that about both of them, that they try to show you can love something and still have it for a use. To love something so much you use it in its entirety for the sake of an ultimate purpose.
I don’t know. I just wish more people thought about their food this way because I was taught this my entire life growing up on a farm and it encourages accountability and respect for the value of a meal ;v;
