"She and Miles have some kind of intuitive connection, which they both experience when they see each other" AHHHH YESS MARGO AND MILES HAVING A SPECIAL BOND CONFIRMED!!! Makes me more excited (than I already am) for Margo to play an even bigger role in finding/helping Miles!!! Also the fact that she's considered one of the most valuable assets of Miguel's society, yet she STILL defies him for Miles...we LOVE to see it!! Can't wait for BTSV and for them to meet again🤩

I really wanna see more of Margo (Spider-Byte) in the next film. Can't stop thinking about how she and Hobie were the 2 people who helped out Miles when he needed it the most. Even more significant is the fact that she wasn't even his friend or someone she'd known well, yet in the most crucial of moments, she let him go and saved him from Miguel's wrath. And the little smile Miles gives her when he realizes her decision? Priceless.
While I don't expect her and Miles to get together romantically (feels obvious that Gwen+Miles will be endgame or there'll be no love interest🤷🏿♀️), I do think she'll be one of the few Spider-people he'll trust/be willing to talk to if they meet again. It would be even cooler if, depending on what universe she's from (since we never find out where exactly) she already has a connection to *a* Miles or, even, Prowler Miles, and so she plays a huger role in being able to save/help Miles. Again, not expecting this, but it would be cool. Anyways, here's to more of Margo Kess in Spider-Verse!

Just sitting here and thinking about how great Hobie is as a character. How loving, protective, and honest he is. How he shows up in the most important ways, especially for Miles. How he exemplifies the best qualities of what it means to be radical.
Inside and out, he's a beautiful character. The ways he builds community with the younger Spider-people (Miles, Gwen, Pavitr), connects easily with the likes of MayDay, and actively encourages defiance of Miguel and the Spider-Society (while looking out for his peeps) are huge highlights of the film and I can't wait to see more of his character in BTSV.

Raven Analysis (Part 2)

Note: Link to my previous post
Moving on, we see Azar train young Raven to submerge her emotions, so much so she is barely allowed to even see and develop a relationship with her mother, despite her mother wanting to be there. Here is where a lot of the tragedy about Raven's character comes in for me.

Understandably, Azarathians are trying to save the Earth and take responsibility for Raven without killing her...but uhh...they are. They've been killing her since birth. In order to save the lives of others, Raven has been deprived in so many ways of a life of her own.
Her biological mother may as well be a stranger. The closest thing she has to a parent besides Arella is a goddess who has taught her to not experience or feel anything, but INSTEAD, take OTHER PEOPLE'S BURDENS ON AS HER OWN AND HEAL THEM WHILE NEVER BEING AFFORDED THE SAME GRACE.

Again, the question is raised, should Raven live like this? Should she feel guilt over what she is naturally and is this truly the right way to nurture her power if we accept that she's capable of good? We know that Raven is a hero, but is her transformation into becoming a hero a good one? Are the Azarathians truly acting noble here in essentially forcing and gradually killing the life of a child who didn't ask to be here, whose mother didn't ask to be saved? Raven is literally a sacrificial lamb!
So imma speed things up to get to the really good stuff. Azar passes her teaching duties to Arella and to her credit, tells Arella not to fear or shun Raven. But uh...Arella does fear her at times. And they still have a shitty ass practically nonexistent relationship..again, that will impact Raven greatly.

Thankfully, Arella's motherly instinct and understanding shows up when Raven starts to have nightmares of Trigon (who she hasn't met yet aside from when he saved her as an infant). The time for truth has arrived...and lemme tell you SO MUCH IS ANSWERED

These people, these humans who have deprived Raven of knowing what life means, made her into a self-sacrificing being, burdened her with so much pain and disallowed her from releasing it...are the same ones responsible for her and her father's creation.

Their selfishness, cowardice, lack of accountability in facing THEIR OWN EVIL led to the growth and birth of a greater, stronger one. Look at Azar's own words when she is in Raven: "I expunged the darkness in their souls, KNOWING ALL TOO WELL THAT ALL EVIL FINDS ITS WAY TO YOU "

Azar knew. They knew. And they were content in having their own peaceful realm knowing they set the path for an unfathomable evil to form and wreak havoc. It's sick. And it shows that not only is Raven's struggle a theme of good vs evil...it is also a struggle of humanity vsaccountability. She is burdened by the evils of demons AND humans alike. The fear that humans have for her is a projection of the fear they have for themselves, the fear we have for ourselves of what we're capable of accomplishing at our most depraved states.
The hatred we have towards demons/satanic beings...which on a lower level are the monstrous parts of ourselves we don't want to face or accept. Not all of us of course, I'm just speaking generally. NE Ways tho, Raven, someone who didn't HAVE TO BE here, now has to deal with all of this because humans say so. Should she feel guilty? Should she feel responsible for them? Consider Trigon. He's as evil as evil gets...we all know this. He's destroyed universes upon universes with no remorse, just because he felt like it.

But is he 'wrong' to do that? The demon has been alive for a long enough time to know how he originated. To know WHO is responsible for his creation. When he finally meets Raven, he tells her straight up what she has always partly felt no matter how hard she tried to control it, she knows that they hated her.
Not all Azarathians, again, but she knows that many did. That many feared her. And she's hated them in return...taking her life away from her and having the audacity to hate her all the same while, THEORETICALLY, she shouldn't even pity them. And Trigon has chosen not to. He has chosen to make the most of what nature gave to him....one could say that he doesn't just represent evil, but also KARMA.
But again...we have the question of choice. CHOICE. Trigon is the sum of all great evils, but now we know, that both his and Raven's evil has a very human side to it. It would be incredibly hard, draining to do it no doubt, but this suggests that Trigon COULD have chosen to face that evil, and in facing it, decided to do better, to be better, to transform himself and put SOME of his great, dark powers to good use. He didn't. But you know who can? You know who decides to, and thus makes her so greatly heroic? Raven.

Despite proclaiming herself Trigon's daughter, manifesting that great power, knowing what she is capable of and knowing she is carrying the burden of humanity's sins, she constantly makes the choice to fight for them.
She sees the true potential in humanity, against all odds, to be great, to be FORGIVEN, to be worthy of her sacrifices. No doubt she's been heavily influenced by Azarathians to hold humans on a pedestal, and it would take years and years to undo that training, but she still has a choice to make in all of this on whether she wants to CONTINUE fighting for humans. She does, and this origin shows how noble of a being she is to do that in spite of all she's faced and the limited 'life' she lives as a consequence.
Kind of random, and no disrespect to Christians, but I find Raven to be an Anti-Christ while Christ-like at the same time...and I wonder if Marv did that intentionally. She's the daughter of a Satan-like who is meant to wreak evil on the universe (obviously Anti-Christlike). But, like Jesus, feels the burden of humanity's sins, chooses to continue carrying the guilt and weight of it despite having the option not to, and ends up sacrificing herself (both figuratively and literally) for their sins. Just a cool connection I made.
So, in conclusion, Raven is a symbol not just for darkness and destruction, but also hope, fighting against all odds, transformation, and redemption. Her origin and the way it sets up the complexity of her character is magnificent, much respect to Marv. I've said it over and over and I'll say it again, I wish more writers understood this about her character and understood how many different ways she can developed to reach her full potential, not just as a literal powerhouse, but a figurative one too. I don't think there is any other comic character, who could redefine the meaning of evil and reshape or...fuck that, create a new multiverse with this knowledge the way she can. There's a world of stories to be told about her realizing her ability to be heroic for countless, different kinds of beings. Anyways, that's all. If you have thoughts let me know, and once again, thanks for reading.

Raven Analysis (Part 1)

Deconstructing the myth, legend, and symbolism of one of the most fascinating DC characters, Raven, through her origin tale.
Note: This is a VERY long, thorough post.
So let's take it from the start. Raven is the heroic daughter of darkness, a half-demon empath who constantly fights Trigon's evil and her own alike to save the universe from destruction. She formed the Teen Titans roster that most people know well in order to do that.
On the surface, her character and story represents the classic struggle of good vs evil and triumphing in the end. And trust me, I do like that about her character. But in reading her origin, I've realized that there's a lot more complexity to how this battle plays out for her.
And I'd like to think others would think the same if they looked specifically at her origin. So to no further ado, let's jump in. Marv makes it a point to say that Raven refused to tell her story, unlike the other Titans. Despite them being her only friends, she still struggles with truly treating them as such...because she can't.Raven has been trained from birth to control any and all of her emotions, so much so that she doesn't even allow herself to really feel anything. But, as shown below, she does have an inner desire to show that she cares.

So she finally opens up this once, and this is where I start taking notes of the symbolism, the themes expressed. Angela Roth was someone who, unlike her daughter, had the freedom to experience ALL emotions, yet was so plagued in life that she never had a grasp on them.

This isn't included in the tale, but further information tells us that CLASSIC Angela was either abandoned by her birth parents or orphaned, and she was constantly in search of some meaning, some purpose to her life. And this desire was so huge it allowed her to be swayed EASILY by emotions in a way that Raven could NEVER have allowed herself to do the same. They're both broken by the way emotions have affected them, but one is allowed to release it while the other must reign it all in. It's a great juxtaposition between the two that shows how they're both different, yet in a way similar.
After all, Raven doesn't only carry the sins, the experiences of and lessons from her father, she's also carrying Angela's troubled history and pain with her too, and people forget this, forget that Angela's ordeal with emotion would influence Raven's future experiences as well.
As Raven continues talking about Angela, it becomes clear that her mother's emotional turmoil ALREADY HAS weighed on her in more subtle ways. She describes her own mom as someone who "allowed herself to be used" and "too weak" to slay her. There's no doubt that Raven cares for her mom and blames Trigon first for her pain, but there is an inner resentment towards her at the same time....it's almost as if Raven wants to ponder why she couldn't have made better decisions and is disappointed in them.

And no doubt, it should be obvious that Raven has deeply internalized self hatred as well. Even after all the training she's done, she still sees and describes herself as a horror, as someone who should have been killed to begin from the start. And she's right that she's a horror, but should she feel guilty about that? Ask this to yourself. Moving on, we see that an on-the-verge-of-death pregnant Angela is welcomed into Azarath. It's glorious, nirvana-like. No pain, just peace, and interestingly enough, despite carrying a 'horror' as Raven calls herself>

she gets renamed Arella, which specifically means "the messenger angel". That's a bit....offputting considering she's bringing them Raven, but also in a way understandable. I think there's 2 meanings to this.
On the one hand, she's bringing them someone who they can train properly To use her powers for good and thus save the Earth from destruction...but on the other is the hidden meaning, imo, of what Raven can be. She's someone with incredibly destructive powers, while at the same time having empathic powers naturally...someone who can deconstruct the meaning of evil in a way that many others can't....IF SHE IS TRAINED IN THAT WAY. Azarathians may not have trained her as such since they mostly taught her to fear her powers, but Arella being the messenger angel implies that Raven could TRANSFORM in a way that would allow her to not just defeat, but destroy evil in a way that would permanently change how we view and think about it. But I'm getting ahead of myself..lemme continue

Raven tells us how Arella seems to be loved, but hatred and fear still boils underneath. Juris does not believe in the heroic potential of either Arella or Raven, and when Raven is born, his fears seem proven right.
Raven reality warps Azarath upon her birth, permanently darkening it and instilling a sense of fear. Juris tries to kill Raven (and himself) by casting them into the Great Door, the entrance to Limbo, but Trigon murks him right before he does it.

Now...there's several things happening here symbolically. Just take Raven's name. In general, ravens are very important to many cultures, symbolizing omens of darkness but also knowledge-bringers, wisdom, TRANSFORMATION.While they can be considered BORN of primordial darkness they can also be seen as bringing light. I point this out because Marv Wolfman (NTT creator) chose Raven's name intentionally. Considering all this, Raven's reality warping shows in obvious and subtle ways her role as a transformer. Of course, we see the destructive side that reasonably would cause fear, but on the other is the implication that not only should Raven survive, whether it's Trigon or other Azarathians who want her to live, but also that to kill her is to kill a truly special being whose needed to change the world. Despite Coman knowing that Raven could cause more death, he and the other members of the high council are willing to take that risk just so she can live. They may not know it that obviously, but subconsciously they view her as a needed force, even in knowing they'll never fully get rid of her evil.
After all, why put yourself through all the stress and worry of trying to control a demon capable of nigh-infinite power when you could just...y'know, cast them away. Even if killing is not your way, why feel guilty about not protecting the sanctity of a being forever bounded by evil?

All these questions posed, and the answer I come up with is that Raven is the DC comic character version of the double-faced symbolism that her bird counterparts represent. A bringer of death...and life. A chance for despair....AND HOPE. A revolutionary, transformative force whose story is one of the best examples of how CHOICE trumps so-called fate in the end.

Prologue: Tales from the Dark Multiverse
Main characters: Raven, Zachary Zatara, Klarion (mentioned)
Words: 700+
Notes: I wrote this a long while ago but seeing a mutual's fics made me want to post this. I may consider updating this. Maybe.

"Leave. Me. Alone."
"I just want to-," Zachary started, remorsefully looking down at the despaired, broken, and caged empath.
"Leave," Raven demanded, keeping her eyes to the floor and body turned away from his direction.
"If I could just-"
"LEAVE! Leave me be Zachary! The last thing I want is to see, to hear from you," she spat out bitterly.
He sighed, resting his head against the barriers of her prison. "I know you're upset with me, but soon you will understand. I'm only doing what's right. What's best for you, for us, for everyone."
Raven finally turned to face the dark-haired mage, snarling at the sight of the monster she had once considered a friend. "How dare you. How dare you have the nerve to tell me that what you've done is right, is just. You betrayed me! You betrayed him! You betrayed us ALL!"
"I had to!" Zachary exclaimed, hitting the prison barriers. "I didn't want to but goddamnit Rae, I had to. He had to be stopped before he could cause more pain. He was bound to destroy everything in his path. And you were-" he paused abruptly, furrowing his brows, "-falling under his influence...I did what needed to be done."
She chuckled darkly, glinting at the man before her. "I'm one of the greatest empaths this multiverse has ever seen. I understood him. I knew him. So did the others. And till this day, I have no question, no doubt in my mind that he and I were saving this verse, not destroying it."
He crouched down, smiling sadly as he now turned his face to the ground. "But that's the problem Rae. You are so empathetic, so compassionate that sometimes you tend to look for and overemphasize the good over the bad in people. Your range for acceptance and forgiveness is so wide. You succeed greatly with helping many, but there are certain, deceptive beings that can take advantage of you and use you for their own agendas. Klarion was one of them."
Raven scoffed. "No, but you were. You are. I should've shunned you the moment I met you. I hate you," she growled, her voice threatening to crack at any given moment.
"And I love you," he stated, matching the intensity of her glare. "And that's why you're here, alive and safe where no one else can hurt you, can turn you into the demon that is Trigon. You're vulnerable Raven, I am protecting you."
"You're hurting me." Her voice broke, a tear escaping her eye. "And you hurt me more every second you stay here."
He wanted to say more, explain everything he possibly could, start to finish, justify all the ways in which he was right. But he knew she wouldn't listen. Not anymore. He stood up, resigned, and took one last look at the girl he loved more than anyone in his entire life.
"I'm sorry Rae. There was no other way. I can't lose you," and once again he affirmed, "I love you."
With those words, he vanished as quickly as he came, leaving Raven desolate once more. She finally cried.
How did things turn out this way? She drove herself mad, trying to piece together all that had transpired, that led to Zachary's betrayal, the dissolution of their group..their family, her capture, and Klarion...Klarion….she couldn't even bring herself to say it. She truly hadn't accepted it. That he was gone. Forever.
Eventually, the tears stopped falling, and all that remained was the harsh reality of her current circumstances. She couldn't stay here any longer. She needed to find a way out, and fast, but she had to be smart about it as well. Zachary, with Fate and Zatanna's help, constructed a seemingly impenetrable prison for her: she couldn't teleport or phase out, nor could her soul self. If that wasn't enough, the barriers prevented her from using any form of telekinesis, telepathy, or empathy on anyone who visited her, much less Zachary, Fate, and Zee.
But not all hope was lost. She was Raven, daughter of Arella and Trigon, born to excel against all odds and triumph in the end, even in a wretched place as the Dark Multiverse. Her team, the Nightforce's effort to save this verse would not go in vain. And that would be enough to keep her going, to keep her fighting. That would be enough.

I love how silly this one is and yet it still manages to flesh out the characters
❛ i guess i’ll just clean up your mess again huh ? ❜ with T’Challa, por favor 😍😍😍
Notes: I would first like to formally apologize to my favorite teenage genius Shuri for throwing you under the bus. Sorry Shuri. Also, I originally wrote it one way, but then when I realized that it didnt have enough T’Challa in it, I scrapped it and wrote it differently, hence why it took me so long to write this. I really hope I did it justice.

This was the worse blow imaginable for Kya.
Imagine getting stabbed and, instead of removing the knife, the assailant decided to twist it, adding to the assailed’s agony. Even if that were to occur multiple times, it wouldn’t equal the pain that Kya felt.

Intulungu (Snippet)
Since we've been talking so much about this scene, I got inspired to write this snippet for my AU that I wrote to fit the WF canon.

(Gif made by @doloresgifs)
“I’m going too,” Kya said while unbuckling her seat belt.
“No!” Nakia demanded, her eyes full of concern for her baby sister. “You stay here where it’s safe!”
Kya watched as Nakia ran off and Shuri not too far behind her.
It wasn't long before her anxiety got the best of her, and she ran out of the jet and into the palace. She didn't care what Nakia said. Something was happening and she needed to be there.
"Mother!" She heard Shuri's voice cry out in agony, and she followed her best friend's voice to the throne room.
When she stepped inside, she grabbed the door handle to steady herself as the waters on the ground made her slip. Her eyes scanned the scene in front of her and saw as her sister and Okoye were trying their hardest to revive Riri and the Queen Mother while M'Baku and Aneka were holding back a hysterical Shuri. Fortunately, Riri came to quickly, and now they had to focus on bringing back the Queen Mother.
"Mother!" Shuri continued to cry out, and seeing her best friend in distress cracked at the strong facade Kya tried to maintain over the past two years.
A tear slid down her cheek as she bowed her head and sent a prayer to Bast to give them a miracle. "Come on mother. Wake up."
Her pleas fell on deaf ears as she watched Nakia check her pulse only to receive nothing in return. She locked eyes with her sister, almost begging her not to make the call. Sympathy clouded Nakia eyes, and that was all it took for the dam Kya held up for years to break. Her great-aunt, the king, losing the life she once had, losing her hopes and dreams, and losing the friendship with her sister all came bursting forward.
"No!" It was Shuri's cries that brought her back in the moment, reminding her of what was more important. She'll shed her tears later when she's all alone, but now Shuri, her best friend and closest thing to a little sister, needed her.
Everyone in Shuri’s life was gone now, and so was the innocence Kya wanted to protect. Her own innocence and child-like wonder died with her mother, her great-aunt, and the king. She hoped to sustain Shuri’s, nurture it and make it grow strong, so her best friend wouldn’t have to grow up as fast as she had. That was gone now, along with the Queen Mother.
Kya had failed her.

Nakia’s head pounded as she finally came to.
Blinking her eyes, she reached a hand to massage her temples only to find them wet with blood.

Thank you so much for this compliment, I really appreciate it. And if you've written a fic about this I would love to read it! I've been enjoying reading Black Panther fics lately!!

I wanna express how much I ADORE Nakia as both a character AND symbol within the movie. It's crazy how much I could write on her(and her importance to Shuri) but unfortunately that would take up too much space on a single post so I'm gonna focus on her character in relation to two scenes.
I wanna talk about the scene where Ramonda visits Shuri, who is preoccupied with her lab work. When her ai Griot mentions that Nakia is trying to reach her, Shuri almost immediately cuts him off, telling him to finish his calculations. To me, this stands out because it's one of the first indications we get of how unwilling Shuri is to deal with her grief. The fact that she wouldn't even let her ai try to explain why it might be beneficial for her to answer Nakia should tell us that yes, Shuri IS choosing her alienation, and as a consequence, choosing emotional/mental stagnation over growth. Nakia serves not only as a character who has been rejected by Shuri but also as a symbolic representation of growth.
But of course, we can't forget what took place before this scene: T'Challa's funeral. Everyone that loved him attended his funeral...except Nakia. And there is no doubt in my mind that this left a bitter taste in Shuri's mouth, as even she publicly showed up for and mourned her brother's death with the rest of Wakanda. This makes things more complicated when we watch the lab scene.
Nakia, who once CHOSE to be alienated, CHOSE not to fully confront/deal with her grief, is now finding out what it feels like to be on the other end of the stick. Her actions have consequences, and I see one of these consequences as Shuri entering this period of stagnation.
Without Nakia there, Shuri had one less person to talk to, turn to, grieve with. She had one less person to spill out her emotions to and, in turn, hear this person spill out their emotions. And most importantly, because this person was NAKIA, someone she knew her brother loved deeply, someone she depended on like a sister when her brother almost died due to Killmonger, the loss of those opportunities for grieving and growing together are MONUMENTAL.
Nakia, then, has a double meaning: a force for growth as well as a force for stagnation. Despite not saying a WORD at this point in the film, we are already given specific clues and contexts to work with that allow us to understand Nakia's importance as the past version of herself (alienated/nonconfrontational) and the version of herself she is trying to be now (connected/confrontational). Her past self mirrors who Shuri is at that point in the film, but her current self provides hope that if she could learn to deal with her grief and grow, so can Shuri.
Like I said earlier, I'll probably make more posts discussing Nakia's importance (especially in relation to Shuri and the other scenes she physically appears in). I just wanted to get this out of way cuz it's stayed on my mind for the longest😀.

I love the juxtaposition of Raven against Starfire that sets them up as having a unique kind of kinship. Both have powers that are primarily emotion based, but on one hand Raven must suppress all her emotions while Kory is driven by and encouraged to have emotional freedom.
As teammates, AS FRIENDS, there's a lot for one to learn from the other as far as allowing yourself to feel free and challenge the status quo while at the same time understanding restraint, developing a stronger moral compass, and finding unique ways to deal with enemies.
Marv knew exactly what he was doing creating that dynamic between Kory and Raven and setting their relationship up in such a way that Raven would trust her emotions, her soul with Kory❤
