quick question because i’m curious:
#him giving up#like im sorry#thats the ONLY reason he survived the apocalypses#its not supposed to be his powers or some magic thing#hes got the survival gene#hes stubborn#thats what keeps irl people alive in horrific situations#they keep trying#they do the horrid thing#because survivial is all that matters#look i honestly thought he was gonna pull thru at the end#him on the subway?#thought that was gonna be his realisation#that he had to die to keep his family alive#like his time travel is what fucked up the universe#viktors apocalypse was an anomaly#that he contributed to!#if he hadnt gone missing#or if he hadnt been there to go missing in the first place#maybe a butterfly effect could have happened#just god#if they had five die to save everyone#id have given the season a little credit#but they did even!#so fuck em#its not canon#beyond like 5 tiny things that i will take as a moment of clarity in the writers drug trip

one, in my opinion, HUGE mischaracterization that i haven’t seen anyone bring up about five in season 4 is that he is very nonchalant about the fact that the siblings don’t want their powers back, to a point where he doesn’t even seem to care if he gets his back himself
is there anyone else out there who thinks that five would be absolutely ITCHING to get his blinking back. that guy teleported so much pre-universe reset. as much as i love the guy, he has an out of control ego and very much views him and his siblings as more important than regular ordinary people because of their abilities. five definitely would’ve still retained his cockiness without them, but i am positive he’d be a lot more confident in himself if he was able to continue blinking in and out of situations like he did before.
not only did he use his abilities when in dangerous situations and fights (his many physical altercations with lila, the swedes, sparrow ben, jayme, his old self, commission gunmen, hazel and cha cha, the handler, etc.) but also in everyday conversation to emphasize his points (blinking in front of reginald when arguing about oblivion in s3 and diego when arguing about lila using him in s2, etc.) and casual convenience (retrieving fluffernutter ingredients, blinking into elliot’s home and stealing his coffee, etc.) like you can’t tell me the guy doesn’t love his abilities and would’ve craved them deeply in their absence. out of all the siblings, he undoubtedly used his the most.
maybe i’m totally wrong here and just being overly critical of a season we’ve already established was terrible, but thinking about it is just twisting my brain into knots because i am so very confident five would actually have gone to ridiculous lengths to have the advantages his blinking gave him again
“alright then, motion fails, we don’t drink the mystery juice” five i know your ass was laying in bed that night wishing you’d drunk the goddamn mystery juice
^ that’s more like it!!

sorry to once again pile onto the season four criticisms (i’m not) but how the FUCK did not ONE of the siblings notice that they were doing marigold shots.
look at this shit. none of you could tell???? for real?????

like even luther and diego, being the colossal dumbasses that they are (affectionate) would’ve noticed that they were drinking literal glowing particles
you’re telling me they didn’t??? you’re telling me FIVE didn’t??? the hyper-intelligent old bastard who doesn’t let anything get past him??? yeah pal i’m sure

In the end, after our brother, Ben, had died, there was really nothing connecting us. We were just strangers living under the same roof…
#loved these pairings#specifically for five#like with the others#yeah#thats their issues#pretty plain and clear#but five?#he doesn't really talk about his childhood#outside of the apocalypse#and yet they gave him that line???#not only is the implication that five is desperate for reginalds love#but also that hes the one incapable of giving love#which has so many layers#bc he is!#incredibly capable#just a little different#and isnt that a theme for his whole character#that the ways he shows love#arent seen by his siblings as acts of love#they call him crazy or just downright dont see anything#which then#possibly#reinforces that five himself may believe himself incapable#ughhh its such an interesting line for five#and its never really talked about

Yeah it was a let down, building this expectation that we'd get to understand their powers a little more and see how their relationships improved when Reginald wasn't there (aware of them or able to meddle with them, even from beyond the grave). And then... nothing. Didn't feel like developing that major subplot i suppose??
tbh tho, Five didn't do a whole lot to get them together that they weren't already doing themselves - Diego had his cell bars shaved down & was planning an escape with Lila that night,
Luther and Viktor were going to meet at the club that same night regardless of Five's intervention,
Klaus and Allison met of their own accord anyways,
I imagine that Luther would have eventually caved the way he did in canon (after getting proof that he wasn't the only one to make it to Dallas through Viktor) and gotten Ruby to track down Allison,
Which then linked Viktor to Luther, to Allison, to Klaus & then with Diego running around trying to rescue Kennedy he wouldn't be especially hidden - considering Five is the one to convince him to look into Reginald he wouldn't be aiming for that at all.
So we kind of did get the answer to one question? Just not a particularly detailed one.
I would say tho that this feels linked to a little theme S1 built up (and the other seasons carried too) of Five's absence drawing them together - or his presence driving them apart.
Because ultimately, Five's been driving the plot (their relationships) since he disappeared.
(got a little carried away :| )
His disappearance was often listed right next to Ben's death as one of the big reasons the Brellies split up - but ultimately, this was a good thing as otherwise they may have remained with Reginald, as Luther did.
Then his absence in the first timeline with the apocalypse did ultimately end with the Brellies (minus Viktor) all together at the end, fighting the apocalypse (or trying to help Viktor),
Arguably his involvement in creating the Commission did lead to the preservation of the timeline that allowed the Brellies to be the kids that Reginald picked up - if the Commission was deleting defective timelines, then that must include academies like the Sparrows and the Phoenixes.
Then there's the entire Day that Wasn't. Five disappears and in that short amount of time, Luther and Allison work out their conflicts, Diego learns the truth from Grace, Klaus gets sober and summons Dave, Viktor learns the truth about Leonard before seeing Allison or his siblings - all things that don't happen when Five's around.
vs.
So, the timeline without Five in the 60s is super interesting because their relationships (to themselves, their powers, each other) developed better without Five than with him.
Which is another big discussion - the only significant positive change that Five's presence brings is the aversion of the apocalypse.
The trade is life or happiness, and Five is constantly choosing for them - life. Which is a massive character trait that's been established by his own consistent and kind of selfish desire for life above happiness althroughout the series.
one of the tua scenes that fascinates me the most is at the beginning of s2 when five first arrives in dallas. I wish we had an explanation for it because OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD??? everyone has such control and understanding of their powers (Viktor, Klaus) that they don’t develop over the course of the timeline that actually happens in s2, they’re all acting like a team, they somehow all met and banded together without five’s help??? how did that all happen????? I NEED ANSWERS PLS THIS IS HAUNTING ME!!!!!!!!

i actually think five’s line “guess i missed the funeral” is really funny because you just know his ass did NOT want to attend his horrendous father’s funeral. you just know he was upstairs punching the air when he found out he was just in time for them to dump his ashes out. mumbling under his breath “why couldn’t i have jumped to a single goddamn HOUR later”

dear photo of his siblings that luther keeps and cherishes on the moon: i love you forever and ever and ever

#I think the reason Viktor’s not in it#is bc it’s less about Luther missing his family#and more about him missing the team#like he misses being the leader#he misses being in control and knowing what to do#and yeah some of that is affection#he does miss his siblings#but this is pre s1#and he’s not figured out how he really feels about the academy#also this pic was used in a magazine that’s on display in their living room#so they probs all look happy bc their dad wasn’t in charge#that’s also why Viktor’s not there#it’s promo for the brellies

This was a good one, figured out the style at this point. I loved five getting thrown about like a dead fish. Just one situation to another. Wish we’d expanded on that but hey, s2 was fun and I’ll forgive a lot in the name of fun.
This was the last to be completed in this project, I was attempting to draw the lift scene from 2x06 when s4 dropped and I lost the will. Also, there’s like 6 characters to draw so.

S2 promotion
I loved the themes for the s2 art. It was so funky, it fit the vibe, everybody was having a good time and u don’t have to squint to see things!

I miss when Viktor & five were besties. They really let go of that subplot - can you reconnect after so much time apart and so many changes. Like they really just said, “hey, give up on ur family, even up if u love each other it’s too hard, move to Canada instead”. Really? After scenes like this? Where five has so much affection for Viktor that he literally can’t contain it? Their relationship was so tragic and beautiful one of the best parts of s1, and they got these few moments in s2 too.

Others have pointed out that the framing put five behind bars, and I thought that was so poetic I chose it for the drawing. Otherwise it might have been five getting the shit kicked out of him lmao love that fight.
