When I´m 84!!
Health can sometimes get us down. It´s surprising how many friends, family and FB palls have back problems. Theres an Old saying that Òld age never comes alone´ So I thought a little lighthearted ramble might help. We all know the first verse of the Beatles song `When I´m 64´ so I thought I´d do my version of it. When I get Older ….. your 81 Loosing my hair …… you´ve lost most of it…

That´s Life Jim....
Spock was right with this statement, and boy does life throw curved balls. The reason for the flowers is, to me, a pictorial friendship. When I was able to play petanca we often had club meals and this was a table setting from one of them. People can be funny, strange or down right obnoxious, but these people are Family. They are the ones who have helped us come to terms with my health problems…

This Little Piggy Ate Saffron......
We can see you This was what he was eating…..all 36 bulbs of edible gold. Now I expect most people will see the picture of the saffron snaffling boar and go ahhh. DO NOT THINK OF THEM AS AHH. They are some of the most dangerous animals in the forest, believe me we have lived for 20 years amoungst them and we know. His face helped me when writing Clearing in the Forest, because the children…

THE KING and I
Mens Health This morning I read the sad news that Eddy Jordan has died of Prostrate Cancer. And it made me think it´s about time men woke up to this problem, so I decided to write the following in the hope it will help others. As most of you know by now I have a few health issues, and for quite a while I have been trying to sort them out. The first one to be sorted was my Prostrate, it was a…

A Plymouth Story
Well once again I’m off on the hospital route so I thought about it and decided that I’m luckier than the characters in my stories. Medical knowledge has advanced in leaps and bounds over the last century and now they can cure – well almost – anything. I remember when they removed my carbuncle it was done on our dining room table and they used gas….ugh., and that was in the 1950’s. Since then…

Monday Monday no food for me Monday morning wasn´t all I hoped it would be….
So there we were at the hospital again…..where else…..which, mind you, went fairly well. The day began with wifes visit to her Doctor to arrange yearly analysis, this was followed by trip to the cake shop for breakfast. Then back to the hospital and my appointment with the neurologist, which as expected, my daily dose of brain pills was upped by one. After that it was the laundry and shopping,…

Forest Living
Well here we are at the beginning of another year. To say it´s started well would be incorrect. However to say it´s cold, freezing at times would be more like it, but we have plenty of seasoned wood in and a woodburning stove so we are warm. The weather has been a bit of a mixture cold, then up to 18dgs during the day and once or twice 0 to -1 on the odd night. We have had some rain but mostly…

Born To Be Wild and Free
One of the advantages of living in a forest is getting to see the wild life. The above picture was taken by our night camera showing a female wild boar and a piglet. They roam the forest and we often find evidence of their visits in the morning, but they can also be destructive. My wife had planted a saffron bed, and one night they visited and dug up her bulbs and ate them. To say she was…

It’s A Wonderful Forest
For some years now, five I think, winters here have been fairly mild, by this I mean no snow. Up above us the foothills of the Pyrenees have been a lovely white, and skiing is well under way.  Although we’re not that far from them our mountains aren’t as high so we don’t always get the snow. However, what happens up there does affect us. If the mountains get lots of rain, then it usually means…

Just My Obseervations on Football
Just my observations on Football So not being one who understands football I had to ask Michael about why football managers don’t seem to last long at various clubs.  To me they are there for a season then if they don’t win the league or a trophy of some sort they are sacked. Unlike years gone by when a manager was given time to get the team into some sort of winning form, patience seems to be a…

A PLYMOUTH STORY
High Streets are disappearing or so it seems.  They have certainly changed since Blackstock’s time.  No longer cobbled, and with cafes and department stores it’s a very different type of High Street.  It’s also a long, long time since Dr Blackstock met with the Royal Navy on his way to fetch medicine for his dominant mother. A very different Plymouth from the one it is today. In those days shops…

THE BEAUTY OF THE HIGH ANDIES
South America, a place of nature containing the wildest and most beautiful areas left on this planet. It’s where nature still displays some of its greatest wonders, and where the giant condor spread their wings as they fly into the thin air above fifteen thousand feet. It’s here that man struggles to breathe being unable to draw sufficient oxygen to exist. The wonders of snow covered peaks…

MENTAL HEALTH - THE HIDDEN ILLNESS
Whilst most of us are perfectly well and able to carry on our day to day lives, cope with the day to day things that life throws at us, there are people who just cannot do that.  There may be various reasons for their illness, a bad and/or abusive marriage/relationship, a traumatic event in their lives, such as a death, serving in the forces, having to kill or see friends being killed or maimed.…

A LOOK AT LIFE
Well after all the health things I’ve been through my wife decided it’s her turn. I sent her for a few days to the UK to see friends and whilst she was there, she had an irritating spot play up. Now this has been around for ages but as the doctor said it wasn’t anything to worry about she didn’t. However, on arrival home and feeling under the weather she checked it and found a nasty – what she…

THAT WAS A WEEK THAT WAS
So how many of us have made plans to do something nice only to have a spanner thrown in the works and spoil them?  I should be used to it by now, I mean here I am 80 years of age and I should have known there’d be a spanner lurking somewhere.  This particular spanner turned the whole of the week into right pain. But hey I’d better start at the beginning. We have had some odd weather up here so…

TO LINKEDING AND BEYOND
To LinkedIn and Beyond I have to say I am flattered that people on LinkedIn are looking at my work profile and wondering if I would like to submit a resume for an interview. However, I’m sorry to say but I am well past my sell by date, being 80 years of age.  Plus there’s my health problems – a stomach tumor and I have Parkinsons – so I’m afraid I’m no longer available, but it’s nice to know…
