I am so beyond devastated about gavin creels passing. itâs impossible to mark the way that the 2022 into the woods revival changed my world. Iâll be thinking about this quote for a long time

chapter 1 is up on ao3!
A hangover. It had to be. There was no other earthly reason for the throbbing head, her impulsive hatred for existence, and the wave of nausea that demanded Big Belly Burger stat.
There was just one problem.
This wasn't her couch. Hell, this wasnât even⌠her fingers brushed the ground and met⌠dirt. Why was there dirt? Why was it so hot? And why - she squinted, blinking and flinching until her eyes adjusted to the brightness - why did this look like a desert?
Lena groaned. It came out like the croak of a sad frog.
Cotton-mouthed, head pounding, and feebly hoping this was a bad VR trip, she curled to sit up. Vertigo would be better than whatever this was. She pressed a sympathetic hand to the bridge of her nose and noticed the maze of red sand lines against the deep burgundy fabric of her three-piece suit. The suit she was wearing the night before. The power-suit she had chosen to increase her confidence for whenâŚ
A shiver crawled across her skin. It was as welcome as it was unsettling, though before Lena could think much about that, it was sapped by the sun baking down on her. She closed her eyes though that wasnât particularly useful at shutting the world out.
âEnd simulation.â
A beat.Â
Nothing.
Two beats.
Nothing.
Lenaâs itty bitty flicker of hope extinguished. It was a feeble, desperate, aspirational attempt anyway.
She swallowed, feeling an entirely different wave of nausea strike.
Eyes flicked open and scanned the horizon. Face already contorted in a scowl, it quickly deepened.
It was a vast sea of nothing. So much nothing. Not a single cloud interrupted the blanket of sky. Not a single hue contrasted the monochrome palette of reds and orange. Not even the hiss of a reptile rippled across dry, cracked earth. The most interesting thing was the dots of rocks sprinkled across the ground like decorations on the world's driest cupcake. The horizon was cloaked in haze and, if the glistening line of sweat on Lenaâs own brow was any indication, it wasnât the wet kind that brought cleansing rainfall.
Well done, Luthor.
Shaky knees were forced into action, though standing was no more enlightening than sitting. It took a staggering second before she found her balance. For added helplessness, she spun uselessly in a circle to discover everything looked exactly the same in every direction.
The sun hung overhead. Odd how it felt larger in a desert. Lena half-wondered why vultures werenât also in the sky, circling their next meal.
A meal. Sheâd give up half her L-Corp shares for a burger. Better yet, sheâd give up half her shares for a genie to grant three wishes: a burger, aspirin, and sunglasses. She wasnât asking for much - just a few simple comforts while she shriveled into nothing.
Hand cupped over her eyes she scowled toward the sky, half-hoping one might suddenly descend from it. And for all her luck, there was something floating. It was a speck, a shadow of something, a rendering error. And it was getting bigger. She hoped it wasnât something designed to kill her.
It was.
It wasnât.
âOf course itâs you,â Lena sighed. It was a sigh meant to express her general disgruntlement for her situation, for Supergirl, for life in general. It did its job well. Her arm dropped in defeat.Â
âWere you expecting someone else?âÂ
The cape. The flowing blonde hair. The hubris.

had myself an ugly time rereading some good ol' 80s comics, which feature imho some of the most devastating pages in dc comics history. tl;dr, its after '85 crisis, meaning kara has died (dick giorlando you live up to your name) and has also been pretty much wiped from existence in very comics fashion. she doesn't appear in continuity from '85 crisis until 2001, i dont think--with one exception. christmas with the super-heros #2 (1989). my babygirl.
its not super complicated--each hero gets their own little story on how they spend their holiday, helping others (superman), feeling sad about robin (batman), let some rich guy pretend to be santa (hal and barry), and deadman possess a repo man to make him give money to the people he's hurt. he also sends some wine and presents to his old friends.
and he's lonely. no one can see him. what's the point? is misery the reward for his acts of good?

and if they were going to do crisis.......
why the FUCK didnt they at least give us something like this.
#god im back in a comics kick rn#you can ignore this but like#fucking hell man#can you imagine?#a kara who agrees to be wiped from memory...if it means saving everyone#maybe it wont fix everything--maybe lex is still out there and a homicidal xenophone#maybe her friends lives are duller#maybe in essence she goes the way of her people#maybe kal only ever learns of their culture through holograms#but the world is saved. they might not know her but theyre safe#i also rewatched no way home not too long ago and that got me thinking general amnesia as well but like. oof#these two pages just make me FERAL like...two dead people talking to each other. was it fair? no. dying isn't usually fair#just...kara as a guardian angel. kara reminding people why theyre heroes when they cant remember (when they cant remember her)#something about it man....love it or hate it crisis 85 was ambitious and iconic and if youre going to toss around its name...#you better come to fucking play#as usual the cw showed up and shot a baby in face and then said my work here is done and vanished#ugh. back to your scheduled programming

"Languages are set in stone!" the word "inception" not only acquired a whole new definition that has nothing to do with its older definition 13 years ago but also led to "-ception" becoming a suffix that previously did not exist in English solely because of a loud movie
Also, the word for "something from the city of Hamburg" led to the creation of "-burger" as a suffix that denotes a type of sandwich

heist
supercorptober 2023
Iâ˛ve waited 'til the moment's right To look into those starry eyes And say the words That Iâ˛m thinking all the time - The Hunts, I Do
or Kara's plans to propose almost go awry, because of course they don't.
----
"Aunt Kara"
Esme whispered, tugging gently on her sleeve, her eyes round with worry.
"Yeah Bug"'
"Why are we breaking into Aunt Lena's office?" Momma says that's something robbers do."
Kara pinched the bridge of her nose, the two of them stopped just outside of Lena's office.
"Of course she does." She kneeled down in front of Esme. "Listen..."
Kara bit her lip, contemplating how to answer. They were just getting something back that wasn't even supposed to be in there. Something that belonged to her anyway. Something that no one but her currently knew even existed. But how could she explain all that to a six-year-old?
"Well, we're, uh, we're just entering, no breaking? So it's fine."
But Esme was clearly not entirely convinced.
"So why do we have to be all sneaky then? She rocked back and forth on her feet. "Is it because that lady at the desk doesn't like you?"
"Wh-what, who, Jess, no Jess, Jess likes me. I bought her a cactus." Kara insisted
"Gerald?" Esme eyes widened with curiosity. "She said you almost killed Gerald once."
Kara chuckled nervously.
"That was like more than a year ago, and, if anything, Gerald almost killed me!."
She looked over her shoulder to make sure no one was close enough to hear them.
She lowered her voice again just in case.
"Jess is just suspicious and very very protective."
But Esme had moved already on.
"Is it because we're on a secret mission then?"
"That"â she grinned, ruffling Esme's hair â "is exactly why."
Kara stood up and reached for Esme's hand, leading her into Lena's office.
"I left something super secret in Aunt Lena's coat, and we need to get it back."
Kara's eyes darted nervously around the office.
Her gaze falling on a coat draped over the back of a nearby chair just as Esme's hand slipped from hers, going straight for it without hesitation.
"I see it!"
So much for being sneaky.
"Great job, Bug
But Kara couldn't help but smile at her niece's enthusiasm.
Kara joined her on the other side of the room where Lena's coat, well technically her coat, was lying. She reached out tentatively, her fingers brushing against the soft material before slipping into the pocket, her breath catching when she found the ring box seemingly untouched.
She glanced at Esme, who grinned back at her, and slipped the box into her own pocket just as the door behind them opened.
She turned, heart pounding in her chest.
"Jess thinks you're in here planning a heist of some sort," Lena's voice filled the room, her smirking figure appearing in the doorway.
Esme immediately ran to her, arms wrapping around Lena's legs and head resting against her stomach.
"Hi, my love," Lena greeted warmly, her eyes flicking over to Kara with a raised eyebrow.
Esme smiled up at her.
"Don't worry, we're just entering, but not breaking."
"Well, that's reassuring; never can be quite sure about that second part with your Aunt."
"Hey!" Kara protested, feeling the heat rise in her cheeks. "I don't think I'm the only one to blame for at least several of the things broken in this office."
She watched as Lena's cheeks flushed pink too.
"Uh-huh. Well, to what do I owe your entering?"
Kara nudged Esme gently, and she proudly grinned at Lena.
"We came to take you to lunch!"
"You did, did you?" Lena asked, amusement dancing in her eyes as she looked between them. "Hmm, well, I suppose I could do with some lunch."
As they prepared to leave, Kara noticed Lena picking up her coat, her heart fluttering when she paused with it in her hands.
"Well, that's silly."
"What is?"
Lena turned the coat back and forth.
"I must have grabbed your coat instead of mine this morning. Sorry about that. I was in such a hurry that I didn't even realize or apparently even bother to hang it up when I came in."
"It's okay." Kara shrugged her shoulder, gripping the box in her pocket again as if to make sure it was still her.
With the other, she reached out for Lena's hand, thumb subtly ghosting over her ring finger as she threaded their finger together.
"I didn't even realize either."
