Sharing my fascination with stuff that melds high-tech w/ low-tech, new-school w/ old-school... Basically, geeky style mashups. If something's style and function seem to have fused together in a temporal anomaly, let me know... It probably belongs here.

A HighTech Way to Reuse a Wedding Dress...
Tumblr media
Ok, this has nothing to do with the recent Nerdist acquisition nor Comic-Con 2012, but just bear with me... Who knows, maybe someone might show up at future Cons in their (my? YES!) own version of this sweet feat in fashion/costuming/etc...
That said, fashion designer Frank Sorbier really got it with this high tech take on high fashion... In fact, given the twisted fantasy of the the fairy tale upon which the show was based (not to mention its adaptations), maybe this really could have headed to San Diego... Just consider this brief description from Buzzfeed:
"According to Hello Magazine, the show consisted entirely of these two models, one to wear the voluminous dress and one to be the sorceress.
"The sorceress, draped in black, used the laptop to cycle through the collection of dresses imprinted onto the ball gown. The show took on the narrative of French fairy tale, Donkeyskin, in which a king is determined to marry his own daughter to fulfill the dying wishes of his wife."
Um, yeah... Even if not Comic-Con material, the video is really worth a watch:

I think that some animated GIFs can be a bit overwhelming, but this one - honoring Einstein's passing  - is pretty sweet:

Unicorn Poop Cookies
Update: Proof that these cookies are for real! via the always awesome George Takei's amazing FB feed
Tumblr media
Yep. Thanks to a few awesome people in my life I actually got to try these extra-special bits of glittery excrement for my birthday bash... They made for quite the celebration.
Needless to say, Instructables designer, creator & inventor kristylynn84 is pretty awesome.  Just in case you don't take my suggestion to immediately collect the necessary sparkle ingredients & make a batch of your own, I feel compelled to at least share this bit of background:
"This unicorn poop, in reality, has a funny story.  I told my mom that I was making some 'Unicorn Sneezes' and she said 'when are you going to make your unicorn sh*t?'  And then it hit me...Great idea, Mom!  It will take a dirty spin and become unicorn poop, instead!  She doesn't want the credit for encouraging me, but I still thank her."
p.s.
There is even a video. Seriously. Watch it.
p.p.s.
In case you are wondering, kristylynn84 wants us to know that "the amount of poops that you get from this recipe depend on how big your unicorn is." This might seem intuitive, but you'd be surprised by how many people believe that the media's homogeneous presentation of unicorns (mostly petite, bright-eyed & palomino or white) accurately reflects unicorn variety.
Thank you, kristylynn84, for drawing attention (though subtly) to this misconception, which is clearly a product of attempts to both invisiblise the beauty in variation and enforce or laud unicorn conformity.

#SXSW & brief hiatus...
Ok, so I've been sucked into the Pinterest fad & work has had me traveling at warp 9.5 (no warp 10 for me... though I wouldn't plan on mating with Paris or Janeway...)
Now at SXSW w/ FoundIt!, so stop by our booth #436 in the Trade Show if you are around!  Mention LowTechGeek and we'll hook you up!
