Book Critic: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Rating: 7/10
Synopsis:
Cath and Wren are identical twins until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they are off to university and Wren’s decided she doesn’t want to be one half of a pair anymore – she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It’s not so easy for Cath. She would rather bury herself in the fanfiction she writes where there’s romance far more intense than anything she’s experienced in real life. Now Cath has to decide whether she’s ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she’s realizing that there’s more to learn about love then she ever thought possible.
Review:
What can I say? When I opened Fangirl, I really did think it was going to be another coming of age books and first love. And let me tell you It was that but so much more. This book explores the real-life struggles of being an antisocial introvert freshman in college. I really felt terrible and felt with Cather as she was trying so hard to balance her college life to co-exist with her Father, which suffers from bipolar, a mental disorder where you have stages, first, an abnormal happy stage when you are upbeat and just weird in general. Second, a stage of deep, deep depression. In the middle of the book we know that Arthur Avery (Cath’s and Wren’s father) goes into a crazy stage and is admitted to hospital, from this scene we finally get to see how much Wren’s and Cath’s relationship has crumbled into bits.
I feel a love to this book because even if I am 13, I still relate to Cath, but in my own way, not wanting to do sports, have social media, have a lot of friends. I just want to stay at home and do my own thing but enough of me.
One of the only dislikes I have to this book is it is a typical twin story. One is popular and outgoing one is not. I really do wish they we had 2 perspectives in this book, one Wren and one Cath. I didn’t feel that we really did not get to get close to Wren as I would’ve liked to. Wren in a whole way was just incomplete as a character. But then, Wren really opens up after she got into hospital after a near death experience with alcohol. Again though, I really want to feel more connection with Wren.
Levi is AWESOME! I loved him as a character. He just is so sweet to Cather. I really like them together, but I really wish that we knew if Levi had dyslexia or not, if he just could not read, it is just unclear. I love how he is just so sweet to Cath and would do anything to her, even if they were not even together. He really made Cath open up and was not fazed when Cather opened up about her fanfiction. And I really that that was so sincere. Because Boys might think that its weird pervy stuff?
Overall, this book is such a rest of a read, a book that is just so easy, not a fast book where you must focus on this book, you can easily just relax and read!!
Such a good and innocent read - I really do recommend!

Book Review: Normal People
*SPOILER ALERT*
Normal People by Sally Rooney, what can I say? From the start to finish, it was so draining. I’m a fast reader and read it in 2 days (the book was 266 pages in total). Everything was so toxic. Marianne’s and Connell’s relationship was based off only doing the dirty. In my opinion, throughout the whole book, they were plainly, friends with benefits. Rooney portrayed that Marianne and Connell were hopelessly in love, but they were never right for each other. Which left me extremely frustrated. My experience with the book is like it was addicting, like a drug. I wanted to stop reading it, but I could not. Fun fact, I do not like sleeping during the day, but reading this book was so tiring, I had a 2-hour sleep during the day. The thing I hated about this book is that Rooney was romanticizing these mental illnesses. After Rob committed suicide, Connell was in a dark place, but for someone who has been through that, it certainly was not portrayed correctly and needed more effort on Rooney’s part. Everything in this book just felt childish. Nothing ever clicked. Which was extremely sad. I really had high hopes for this novel. Sally Rooney is a great writer and storyteller, but she needs to point those skills into another direction! Lorraine was such a favourite character of mine. She was so real to me. She reminded me of my own mother. In the end, it’s worth a read but don’t rush. Do I recommend this book? I don’t know yet. It had definitely made me look at the world in a different perspective. But other than that, I don’t know.

Book Review: Twilight
Ok, so I decided to redo my post about the review on Twilight (book 1) the way I am going to do it is I am going to do a short summary and then answer book club questions.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Twilight is a book about a girl, Bella that moves to a place called Forks. where her Dad, Charlie lives. She meets a guy Edward and she quickly uncovers some dark secerets. She now knows that Edward is a vampire. Along with his strange, yet good looking family. They quickly fall in love, but there is always trouble lurking around the corner...
🧛QUESTIONS🧛
• Should Bella become a vampire?
In my opinion, not YET. Edward understands that Bella has so much to live for, and we all know that Edward would risk is life or even die for Bella. He also knows how vulnerable Bella is and how he needs to protect her, I think that Edward likes it that way, Edward wants Bella to understand that being a vampire is not ALL THAT. And he would much rather be human. Being a vampire has a lot of downsides. Only a little bit is good. He wants her to understand that shd can’t take being a human for granted.
• Do you think the story would be the same if the roles were reversed? Bella (Vamp) Edward (Human).
- No no no no! If Bella was a vampire all by herself, I would think that Bella would be shy and timid, not wanting to come out of her bubble. She would be very Snappy and quiet to Edward when she first meets him, but will slowly start to realise the true feelings for him and start to open up. Edward has always been charismatic. And he would be quite clueless to the fact that Bella is hiding something. I feel like as their relationship grew Bella would be more open and show the true her. (Imagine Charlie as a vampire!!)
• Do you think the story wouldn’t be the same if Edward wasn’t attractive?
Yes. I feel like a lot of Edward and Bella’s relationship in the first book is based on the physical side. You can clearly see this when Bella describes Edward. If he wasn’t attractive, I feel like Bella would describe Edward a lot like Mike, Edward would try and get closer to her but she would just push him aside. As the book progresses I do think that Edward would finally get closer to her after a long time of trying. Over all, maybe then when they would be at the prom Bella would go with Jacob? Who knows.
—————————
Overall, Twilight is such a good book to read, even if you had seen the movie, the book is so differently portrayed rather than the movie. I highly recommend this book and really look forward to the next book. I will definitely be posting reviews for those books and so on! I rate this book an 8/10. Have fun reading!
