2016 is a GREAT year for Tokusatsu fans. Back in 1966, Tsuburaya Productions created the first of their Ultra Heroes, Ultraman. Ultraman (like the show before it Ultra Q) brought kaiju to the TV screens of Japan on a weekly basis. It helped expand the Kaiju Boom that began with 1954′s Godzilla by giving kids a way to see their monstrous action without having to go to the theatre.
The second great tokusatsu era, the Henshin Boom, began in 1971 with the introduction of Shotaro Ishinomori’s Kamen Rider! Kamen Rider, unlike Ultraman before him, was a man from Earth who was altered by the evil SHOCKER to become a cyborg henchman. Unfortunately for Shocker and fortunately for Earth, he was freed before they could wipe his mind. When things get tough, he can transform into the hero Kamen Rider and battle evil with his Rider Kick!
The popularity of Kamen Rider lead to the creation of a team of transforming heroes with the 1975 introduction of Himitsu Sentai GoRanger! Even though last year was technically the official 40th Anniversary (celebrated in the show Shuriken Sentai NinNinger), 2016 marks the debut of the 40th series in the Franchise so Toei picked this year to throw the big celebration. And heck, technically it is still only the 40th year until April 5, the 41st Anniversary of the first episode of GoRanger.
So, kick back and celebrate this year! If it weren’t for their forebears in the genre, Sentai wouldn’t exist! Let’s raise a toast to Sentai’s Sempais and share a major Anniversary Year with all toku fans!

It occurred to me that the shows from W onward really liked providing slow versions of the themes. I compiled a bunch of em for fun. I call it the Neo-Heisei Emotional Medley. Enjoy.
