SPOILERS FOR DETECTIVE CONAN MOVIE 27

Okay so. The movie revealed that Toichi is alive. Along with the KaiShin cousins reveal, these are all things I’ve been theorizing for at least 5+ years (the former mostly because of the fact that Gosho Aoyama hinted at it in an interview).

Everyone in the fandom from what I can tell now wants to strangle Toichi for all the pain he’s caused his son. Even if it later turns out he’s been in hiding for a good reason, the fact of the matter is that he’s still letting his son put himself in danger to avenge him.

As I was thinking more about the fact that the movie chose to make this big reveal, my mind wandered to another theory I’ve had for the past 5+ years, ever since I saw the interview answer where he hinted at Toichi’s fate.

(Just to clarify this is all me rambling and wanting to share my thoughts that have been rattling in my brain for years. I’m not trying to convince anyone of this theory or discuss how plausible it is, nor do I even think all parts of it make sense/are logical, I’m just sharing these random thoughts I’ve come up with and wanting to see what people think.)

Now let me clarify that I don’t know WHAT early high school me was thinking in order to come up with this theory. I don’t even remember how I came up with it in the first place. I think I just sorta…thought of it. Nor do I have any idea why I still kinda sorta believe in it a little. With the way he just dropped this reveal for the first time in a CONAN movie (not…y’know…in Kaito’s own series…), I now have no idea if Gosho would ever try to pull something like this, but still, my mind can’t help but at least consider the possibility:

What if Toichi is a part of or leads the Magic Kaito organization. He started off genuinely as Kid wanting to protect Chikage. But eventually he learned of Pandora. At some point he came into contact with the organization. For whatever reason he eventually wanted to retire from being Kid. So he just decided to eventually let his son someday do his dirty work for him. Like. Just to further add on to how messed up it is that he never revealed to Kaito that he’s actually alive.

It’s a super messed up theory, I know. And look, I also hate seeing Kaito in pain (just let my boy be happy, please—), but I can’t deny that I’m at least a little interested in how a plot line/twist like this would play out. And again, because Gosho made the big leap to reveal Toichi is alive in a CONAN movie after hinting at it years ago, at this point I don’t really know what to expect anymore. Anything could happen (if only he’d show a little more love to MK…).

But I’m just rambling and wanted to share the thoughts I’ve been sitting on for years. And honestly, no matter how plausible you find this theory, no matter how likely it may or may not be to happen, at minimum, Toichi is now canonically alive and god knows how Kaito will react when he finds out. May the gods of manga have mercy on our boy’s soul… 😢

Aoko and Kaito call each other at the end of the M27 while she watches over her father (Inspector Nakamori) in the hospital. Also depicted in the film is the name under which Aoko recorded Kaito in the phone: "Bakaito".

Pokemon Headcanon:

The reason Gladion’s hand shakes so badly is because he was injured by Type: Null when he initially rescued it. (Just think: Gladion was the first thing Null saw after being cryogenically frozen for a few years. It’d probably be scared/angry/a bit violent after everything it went through. So it attacked Gladion initially, and it left a bit of permanent damage in his hand. I mean, he already had the rips in his clothing so it’s safe to say that Type: Null wasn’t the easiest Pokémon to tame in the beginning...)

-BW Cheren & Unfezant (if they can have BW AND Champion Iris I’m sure they could do the same with Cheren!)

-Ash & Greninja (since Pikachu is already used by the protagonist)

-Victor & Cinderace or Zamazenta

-Hop & Dubwool or Zamazenta

-Mohn & Zoroark (a bit of a stretch but I think it could be a nice reference to the anime and have a cool story event)

OH NO WE MIGHT BE GETTING (part of?) KAZ’S BACKSTORY THIS SEASON. I’M NOT READY TO SEE YOUNG KAZ AND JORDIE I’M GONNA CRY

In all seriousness though, I’m hoping they don’t give away his FULL backstory in this season. We know that Pekka Rollins is going to be in this season, so they need to at least hint it. His reasons for revenge for a good chunk of the first book were a closely guarded secret, and the reveal was so heartbreakingly terrifying to witness--maybe they’ll hint at it, or give Kaz occasional flashes of PTSD (like, brief, split second long clips of his backstory--just imagine Kaz standing in the dark of his room or a hall or something trying to calm himself down after something, and you see a brief bright flash while you hear a young Kaz’s voice screaming Jordie’s name, or “I’m still alive!”, while a hazy silhouette of young Kaz’s hand reaching for the sky, trying to climb out of the mass of bodies)

The comedic potential of Kaz walking around saying shit like “My mother is Ketterdam, she birthed me in the harbor” but also inexplicably making farming references that Jesper and Matthias catch and go all sus is immense. Country boyssss we love youuuuuu

Y’know, Jesper wasn’t my favorite character in the books, but his split second wink in the trailer just made him shoot up the ranks 😂😆🙌✨

Okay I know Wylan was confirmed to not be in the first season of S&B, but I’d love to get a cameo or a hint at his appearance. Like, imagine if the Crows are walking through Kerch and a guy (Van Eck) walks by with his son (Wylan). Obviously we don’t know how character interactions/storylines with the Crows are gonna play out in the show, but in the books, Kaz never officially met Van Eck until he awoke after being ambushed. We were confirmed to be seeing a DeKappel (most likely the one they steal from Van Eck’s house) in the pilot episode, so maybe the Crows won’t ever meet/see Van Eck, but if a dude happened to pass by them on the street with an uncomfortable looking, curly haired merchling in tow...

Either that or we get a hint at his appearance. Maybe Kaz gets tipped off about something and he tells Jesper to go to the textile factory to get him. imagine Jesper entering the factory, and saying something like, “You there! We’ve got a job for you” or something like that, and then the Scene cuts away before we see who he’s talking to

Y’know, I’m not usually one who’s super serious about diversity (usually if there’s diversity in something I’ll go, “oh that’s pretty cool!”, but I don’t usually say stuff like “we need more (ethnicity/sexuality/etc.) in media!”). If the story and characters are good then that’s usually enough for me. But when I saw the trailer and we saw Alina, I just suddenly got really emotional. Obviously I was excited because it was, well, THE TRAILER, but seeing Asian Alina and hearing Jessie talk about the role and her thoughts on diversity just made me feel something inside, and I knew it was because of the representation that was being brought to this series. Here we have a female Asian lead in a high budget blockbuster-esque fantasy series, and I just felt so...proud and happy seeing her play Alina (and Alina was never even my favorite character to begin with). As an Asian myself, and in an adaptation of some of my favorite book series no less, I’m so happy and excited to see Jessie’s portrayal of the Sun Summoner.
