Great take and I absolutely agree! However, I don’t blame anyone who leaves the final episode thinking that Ekko didn’t get a happy ending, especially when the show makes his FINAL onscreen appearance him sitting in the same spot he did with AU Powder, mourning her alone in the dark.

That’s our last impression of him. They could’ve had his final scene be him surrounded by the remaining people of Zaun, topside, and maybe a shot of his a small drawing or painting of AU Powder as a sign to us that though things are getting better, he’s still thinking of her. Idk, something like that where it’s a happy scene; a win for all he’s ever hoped for, but still tinged with bittersweet tragedy at what he gave up to get there

Ekko did get a happy ending! More than anything he wanted his people to thrive and he is now helping to lead them into a better future in an era of peace HE brought for them. He wanted this more than any of his personal relationships with ANYONE. It’s demeaning to say he didn’t get a “happy ending” just because he didn’t end the story with a romantic relationship!
