Just admit that you don't understand Kunikida at all. Yes, he is often hot-tempered and aggressive, but this does not make him a bad person. You call him "annoying" even though you love Dazai. You call him "boring" but you yourself are incapable of even minimal analysis. You think Kunikida isn't special? Okay, then Dazai and Chuuya aren't special either. Making Kunikida the third wheel is not funny. You just don't know how to understand the character even a little.

Speaking of how abilities in BSD can represent their characters...

Kunikida's "Ideals" notebook is the tool he uses to make his ideals reality, this obviously has the double meaning for both his goals in life, as well as describing his ability.

I have to make an entire separate analysis on Kunikida's litte yin-yang pin (that the anime left out) and how duality and balance between contrasting ideas plays such a big part in his character. TLDR; Kunikida as a characters is always stuck between two opposing sides, whether internally with his idealism and rationalism, or externally with villians like Katsura making him suffer between two impossible choices. Ideals and reality are opposing concepts, but Kunikida's ability kinda acts like a connection between the two being able to bring his desires (ideals) into reality.

The Matchless Poet isn't directly referencing one specific piece of work by the IRL Kunikida and is instead based on his naturalist writing style. But Kunikida-sensei has also been described as being a romanticist writer as well as a naturalist one, which are very different writing styles. I'm wondering if this could've influenced this duality motif Kunikida in BSD has...

Also the talk about how bsd abilities represent their characters just... I have to hold back from going into the topic of abilities effecting their users personalities/mentalities that was brought up in 55 minutes.

Officially it's The Matchless Poet. That's what it is called in the official translation of the manga, the light novels, basically everything except the anime. IMO I much prefer this name over any other translation of his ability name, it just sounds cooler.

The anime sub/dub (and mayoi) call it Doppo Poet... I'm not entirely sure why... this transaltion has caused a lot of confusion over what his ability name is sourced from since the anime also calls it "Doppo Poetry" sometimes. Many think its referencing the IRL Kunikida's work "Doppo's Poems" but its not, the name comes from one of Kunikida's pen names.

Lone poet... I've only ever seen this in fan translations. (typically ones made before the official English manga was released)

Trust me I don't take him super seriously when he said that and its not some huge defining aspect of his character... but also this isn't really a mischaracterization IMO, people who wear glasses are just like that.

As someone who's needed glasses since I was 4 years old, Kunikida is the most relatable glasses character I've seen in a long time. He's not completely useless without them, no "jinkies my glasses". But he also isn't one of those characters who wears them but doesn't even need them. He needs them but he's very casual about it.

In my experience you just get so used to wearing them for so long that they do kinda feel like an extension of your body. Yes I've broken my glasses before, yes I get replacements for them, but that doesn't mean I don't care about them. I still rely on them to see and because I've worn them for so much of my life it does feel kinda wrong to not have them on sometimes.

Personally I wouldn't take mine into a bath bc that sounds annoying, but honestly I get it

it annoy me when people say kunikida sees his glasses as a part of his body😭 he says that in AN AD!!! and it's so obvious he is joking!!! he's trying to be silly why do yall take him seriously!!! and he breaks them like all the time, in an omake he says he has to remake them with his notebook, trust me he doesn't care that much about them

Its NOT a rat tail (even tho its funny to call it that)

Its kinda weird calling it anything because its not really one specific hairstyle... personally I call it a weird amalgamation of a mullet and a wolfcut just with really short top layers and a really long wolf tail
