I haven't drawn since March, and really haven't drawn properly since January bc I've been so busy this semester that I kinda struggled a bit with this... but I think it turned out surprisingly well given that I'm a bit rusty atm

In case you wanted a terrible guide on how Kunikida's stupid ponytail works here's one I made for a friend I commissioned to draw him

Its NOT a rat tail (even tho its funny to call it that)

Its kinda weird calling it anything because its not really one specific hairstyle... personally I call it a weird amalgamation of a mullet and a wolfcut just with really short top layers and a really long wolf tail

He does say a lot more "tame" swear words like "Hell" "Shit" "Ass"

But unfortunately a lot of his more vulgar and rude mannerisms are lost in translation.

I mean IMO I still do think he comes across as impolite in the ENG version but I think it loses a lot of his "Delinquent who is trying to seem professional" air about him.

I’m sorry nothing makes me laugh more than when people try and characterise Kunikida as this polite and proper guy.

When Kunikida is one of the most crass and impolite characters in the series.

Yeah he can play the part with a client but as a person he’s so rude.

The only reason Kunikida doesn’t swear is because he would never stop.

I'm sorry Nanamin I love you dearly... but its not even a close choice when you're up against my beloved Kunikida-kun.

If it was about writing there is more argument;

Nanamin has a complete story and isn't severely shafted from the narrative due to not being popular enough, Kunikida's story and role in BSD is still ongoing but due to the disgustingly insane popularity of a short redhead twink he's forced to be sidelined by demand of the editors.

But on the opposite end BSD is a lot more character focused than JJK is so its characters have a lot more complexity (at least in the manga). Kunikida has more depth and just more going on in general with his character even despite how pushed aside he is. Nanamin has depth to his character too but its just looks kinda simple in comparison.

Fans of both BSD and JJK, I'm calling you!!

To clarify, I'm interested in the vibes, so which one is your favourite, not who is the best written/developed. (On that note, JJK is done while BSD is still going, so it wouldn't be fair to the BSD character to make that kind of comparison right now.)

One thing I don't see nearly enough people talking about when it comes to KNDZ is how the use of light/dark colors on them is nearly 1-to-1 reversed of each other.

Dazai has short dark hair, Kunikida has long light hair. Dazai has dark eyes Kunikida has light eyes. Dazai wears a dark vest with a light shirt, Kunikida wears a light vest with a dark shirt.

Of course both of their designs still have individuality. Dazai's bandages and his coat that looks similar to Odasaku's coat. Kunikida dresses the most "business like" showing how seriously he takes his job, and the little yin-yang pin is an entire discussion in of itself.

The iconic red tie/blue tie thing they got going on is worth the hype, but I think the use of light/dark colors deserves attention too. It adds another layer to their "polar opposite partners" dynamic.

I mean to his credit he didn't outright say it happened before the Agency just that it was in his past. Also he didn't wanna talk about it at all and got mad when Dazai brought it up so really Dazai perpetuated the misinformation

Okay but Kunikida saying in Dazai’s entrance exam that him teaching part time is a side hustle.

Which implies that he only started teaching after being employed by the Agency because that’s his main gig.

…and if that’s the case then we don’t actually know what he did before joining the Agency 👀

⚠️ Untold Origins manga spoilers ahead ⚠️

The Untold Origins manga has an original scene where we see how Fukuzawa got Ranpo's (future) glasses! Which is different from what he says in the original LN/the anime bc if I remember correctly he said he bought them from some merchant in a flea market or smth... Here he just keeps them because the little girl who accidentally bumped into him is too scared of him and tells him to keep them, poor guy 😅
