Might I give some advice:

Not everyone has (or needs to have) the energy to thoughtfully respond to republicans on the Internet. You do not have to do that.

But some people do, and can. And I think we gotta let them.

An example:

I have a former teacher, I'll call her Grace, who is an incredibly kind woman in her 70s. Devout catholic, had voted for various parties over the years, but has been pretty strictly democrat over the past 15-20 because that aligns with her values of kindness and service.

She shared a post about the pope's recent letter and expressed that she agreed with his concerns about how trump is treating immigrants. A friend of hers commented a long paragraph basically saying "dear Grace I care for you but I don't understand how you can be a Christian and a democrat. Blah blah abortion blah blah gender blah blah drugs."

Grace replied "I'm very busy right now but I am going to respond to you soon with my thoughts". When she did it was an incredibly generous, rational monologue that connected with this person's humanity, their shared religious values, and made a beautiful case for why she supports who she does. I didn't agree with a good half of what she said as I am not a Christian, but the result was an expression of values that I think put her on the side of justice and compassion.

The person replied and thanked her and said she had a lot to think about. It was probably the best case scenario for a Facebook politics conversation

You know what came very close to ruining it? A bunch of (mostly younger) people piling on with "fuck you you racist maga pos" and "no one has to explain anything to you, go to hell" etc etc. Even after Grace wrote that she intended to reply herself.

I watched this republican respond to all the easy, quick insults by saying "this is why I don't think any democrats can be Christian, this is how you all speak to me." If Grace hadn't put so much work into writing her response in a way that was tailored to fit this person, I would not be surprised if that person left Facebook doubly certain that Christian nationalism is the way to go.

I'm not saying we can't cuss out jackasses. I'm not saying everyone needs to respond to bad faith arguments like Grace did or use their time like she did.

But this was on Grace's Facebook page, and interrupted the work she already volunteered to do. Just so these individuals could feel like they "did something" and got a shot off at an enemy.

I think that's selfish and childish and unproductive. They could have said anything they wanted in their own space, but they made grace's job harder for no fuckin reason. And then "loved" her reply and said "that was beautiful Grace, thank you for sharing your thoughts"

Like... Buddies. Pals. If someone volunteers to scrub the toilet fucking let them.

I’m gonna try and keep this from getting too sappy but I just received one of the sweetest gifts ever from two of my best friends and it has to do with something I started writing two years ago that’s I’m still really proud of to this day.

TLDR; my lovely friend and often times editor @aiambia gifted me a hand bound copy of my fanfiction series Baby, It’s the Golden Age in collab with my childhood best friend @wolvesandvisions , and my heart is so full.

In 2022, I started writing a short KDA AU fic nsfw fic series based in the 1930s. Around that time my life was kinda meh, I was unemployed and my core friend group was scattered around the country. I wasn’t going outside, barely responding to text messages, and only really sustaining myself wasting my savings having bs delivered to my door. But I was doing what I always did when I felt awful and I was gaming and reading fic and looking at fanart. I didn’t feel like writing anymore or drawing or doing much of anything. That’s about when I started getting back into League of Legends real heavy, specifically K/DA. I always liked K/DA from way back when “Popstars” dropped when I was in college (ask my old roommate I probably tortured her with how much I played that song on our shared TV), but for some reason 2021 to 2022 I really fell into them hard.

I came up with the idea driving back from a friend’s house who lived 4 hours up the interstate from me. It was a fun weekend, but the drive back I was just dreading another week of being alone in my room in my head. I don’t know how the connection got made exactly maybe it was my Spotify playlists eclectic nature bouncing from a KDA song to Billie Holiday but the connection was made. I got so anxious I would forget the whole thing I pulled over into the first gas station I saw just outside of this little ass town and say in the parking lot and jotted every little plot point I could think of into the notes app on my phone. I still have the original note on my phone and looking back it’s a little crazed but it made sense to me at the end of the day. Then after I felt I had something I could work with, I switched to a Jazz playlist on Spotify and busted down the rest the interstate all the home no stops so I could get to my PC and get to writing.

It was not as easy to write as I wanted it to be, I’d written fic all my life essentially. I used to write Naruto fanfic on my shitty little flip up phone in middle school, I didn’t expect to struggle with words. Especially words I was so excited to write, but it was hard and I had to reach out for help (which I hate doing) to a friend of mine from college aiambia. Mandy became a saving grace to this fic, she pushed me out of my head out of my comfort zone got me on call to talks things out and on some days was the only other living person I would have conversations with. We were friends before, but having her as a writing partner made us closer friends in a way that has lasted and made me want to be a better friend to her and a better creative in all avenues.

My life is a lot better now, and this morning I received a very lovely hand bound gift Mandy made for me of the first two entries into my KDA 1930s AU fic series. Mandy and my childhood best friend worked really hard in secret to do this me for and it’s a beautiful gift that I am touched by and inspired by (once again she has inspired me like she always does). Receiving this gift has made me reflect on how grateful I am for the friendships I have as well as made realize…..I need that last entry in the series…😅.

I love you so bad and when @aiambia came at me with the idea I knew it'd just be the perfect gift for you. It was just too perfect, like I knew exactly where to look when it came to getting your character references, and getting to take a minute to revisit/study an aesthetic I know you love was so fun... I also tried something new with the painting style and colors and everything...ended up being such a huge labor of love and I loved working on it while also seeing Amanda's progress shots as she binded the whole thing with her own hands.

I'm genuinely so happy the effort came through and you love it so much it makes ME wanna bawl...you DESERVE IT..!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

After & Onward and Unexpected Baby Mine

Their Katsuki characterization is some of my favorite in the fandom right now and also the level of research and knowledge going into UBM is honestly so homely, kind and honest...as a reader who has not been around many new parents or experienced pregnancy the author is doing such a good job making the journey feel palatable and human 😭

A&O is a post-431 fic that got me considering more things about Katsuki and they are approaching that chapter with curiosity and empathy in a way that's riveting.

Similarly Permanent Ink is a classic. I don't know a Maxine IZKT fic I don't love and I am constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for new chapters or works from them LOL
