I've been recently thinking about how Mycenaean Poseidon was the king of the ocean and the underworld. (Mycenaean Poseidon was the deity worshipped by the people of when the Odyssey takes place). I think it's entirely possible that in an earlier draft of Epic, Poseidon would've brought the souls of Ody's men to torture him in In Vain (or an earlier draft of GITW) and then the 600 souls would help Odysseus fight Poseidon in Six Hundred Strike. This is probably not the case, but it was interesting to think about.
