Made some sketchy Shen Yuan designs for a JiuYuan/QiYuan and a CumPlane✈️🥒 fic that I want to I want to write.
Tumblr media
Shen Yuan (沈垣) -> Shen Yuan (慎原), courtesy name Shen Yuanxiao (慎爰霄), rogue cultivator title Kongyuan Sanren (空园散人) — he/him He doesn't have memories of transmigration or his pre-transmigration life; only in dreams (which are fuzzy/forgotten by the morning) and random info or habits he just... has. It's only about 2 months before his 20th birthday that he remembers everything.
Shen Yuan (19) transmigrates into a one-off character (8) that wouldn't show up until a wife-plot years and years down the line, and he meets Shen Jiu (9) and Yue Qi (10) in their backstory.
He gets kidnapped (11) the same year Shen Jiu (12) gets sold to the Qius. Shen Yuan doesn't reunite with them until they're already Shen Qingqiu and Yue Qingyuan.
After the events of a nighthunt that escalated further than anyone had expected, Qian Cao Peak was busier than ever. Sect Leader Yue is to assess the rogue cultivator that Mu Qingfang wishes to bring to Cang Qiong Mountain as an assistant. Someone whose been very helpful during the aforementioned escalated nighthunt.
Tumblr media
Original Goods: Zhan Yuan (詹原), a.k.a. "YuanYuan" (原原), courtesy name** Zhan Xiaoyi (詹霄逸), rogue cultivator title Huangcheng Sanren (荒城散人) — she/her (but wouldn't care if others are used); never got her identity explored in PIDW
Zhan Yuan is the older sibling of one of Luo Binghe's wives and dies in the background very soon after her appearance. She never met SJ and YQ. She ended up with a curse and relied on demonic cultivation to get by.
SY was really drawn to ZY despite her being a very one-off character killed in the background, mainly due to his own experiences with identity.
I have a lot of the lore planned out but I have finals and the summer semester, so I likely won't have time to go into it in a detailed fic for a while :[[[
Again, draft designs so I'll likely change 'em up sometime
** typically, in Ancient China, women weren't recorded to have courtesy names iirc. But with QQQ, and story reasons, I still used one here

I’m not going to say which fanfic this is. I just want to talk about a situation that upset me, because I need to let out my emotions.
A large number of people in the SVSSS fandom, at the very least, dislike Yue Qingyuan. But that doesn’t mean he deserves unfair treatment. The fact that he doesn’t explain his reason isn’t because he wants to keep it from others, but because he thinks that staying silent is the better choice. Maybe that’s foolish, but it’s not a reason to treat him badly. He wanted to do what he thought was best. If you don't think so, then let’s blame a child who accidentally killed someone out of ignorance, indirectly?
And then sj's partner made a decision on behalf of sj without even asking him? Isn’t that the same “I know what’s best for you” attitude that yqy is being condemned for? yqy just needs to be shown what’s right. You can compare yqy to a parent who wants the best for their child, but does it in their own way. That doesn’t mean we should cut ties with them. We should show them how we need to be treated so we can feel better. If they still refuse to listen, then it’s okay to walk away—but not without even giving a chance for them to fix things.
When sj wasn’t feeling well, another character (sj's partner) forbade informing yqy about Shen Qingqiu’s condition, even though yqy was the one who caused it, even though yqy cared deeply. I can understand not letting him visit Shen Qingqiu, but why forbid simply informing him? yqy was concerned, sincerely cared, felt guilty—and this other character wouldn’t even let him know, which only increased his guilt. There was no point in hiding it. Just prohibit physical access if you're afraid it’ll worsen Shen Qingqiu’s state.
Then sj says he doesn’t understand yqy, and another side character asks if he wants to understand him. sj replies no. (Right. We believe sj, ignoring his past desire to know the reason, his hidden curiosity. If he actually learned the reason, he would have wanted his past self to know it too.) And the side character says that in that case, there’s no need—some people don’t deserve the effort it takes to reach them. And yet it’s sj who “deserves” it, and yqy who doesn’t? Are we just not going to help people who are deeply ill or in pain, physically or mentally, because it “won’t change anything”?
Toward the end, another character tells yqy that sj may never forgive him and that he doesn’t have to (which is true). But why not at least try? They were close to each other. They still cared after everything. And this other character just says sometimes it’s better to walk away. That some things are broken beyond repair. But why not try to make them even a little better? If this person truly wants to help sj heal, why not address the core wound—one that will remain horrible if ignored? And healing doesn’t always mean “go find new people and abandon the one who hurt you.” yqy will continue to carry unbearable guilt. sj will have an even deeper sense that people can abandon him—worse than it would’ve been if they’d tried to resolve things. People with PTSD, for example, don’t get better just because things around them are “good” now. They’ll still expect the worst.
Another character tells yqy to go make new friends. Then changes their mind and tells him to get a pet. “Not a person, an animal. Find something else to be gentle to.” Instead of showing him how to treat people right, instead of working through human relationships after realizing his mistakes, Yqy —who now has no close friends, no one to talk to emotionally, not just professionally, and who is hated and feared by his entire sect—is told that he “pierced his heart while having the best intentions,” meaning he traumatizes everyone. And now he’s basically being isolated from society. But humans need other humans to have meaningful conversations. It’s a real psychological need.
In the comments, people were saying that yqy finally got what he deserved. Deserved for what? For sincere motives, for trying his best to make things right as quickly as possible, for showing concern for sj? There were a few moments that maybe made yqy “deserve” what he got (like yelling), but to me that was pure OOC every single time. And if the author doesn’t think it’s OOC, then their interpretation of the character is just… wrong.
To help clarify, here’s a parallel situation involving another character:
Someone told the entire Cang Qiong that sj had been a slave and used to go to a brothel just to get some sleep. And instead of helping sj restore his relationships with the peak lords, they said, “You’ve done enough damage. Leave this mountain (and preferably never return, either directly or indirectly).”
Explanations:
Yes, the author has full rights to delete or block my comment and to not want any criticism. I even checked before writing whether she mentioned anything about that. I clearly stated at the beginning that this was a critique, and to read it only if interested. So calling it “unsolicited” criticism when it’s clearly optional to read feels wrong.
I wasn’t demanding that anything in the fanfic be changed. I just thought the author was trying to help the main characters resolve their problems in a healthy way—so why not yqy too?

I LOVE ORIGINAL-ORIGINAL LUO BINGHE (and writing about him and would like to discuss things about him) (and already have other fic ideas with him..)
Luo Binghe: Original Drafts Edition! Who and why?
“[…] in fact, in his original outline, Bing-gē hadn’t even had a romance plotline; he had been doomed to fade away, alone and unaging forever.” — The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System, Vol. 4 (Mo Xiang Tong Xiu)
The drafts version of Binghe! Not Bing-gē, nor Bing-mei, but a secret, third thing! (I’m partial to Bing-xióng (兄) myself, just for thematic cohesion. Bing-mei remains as he is: Shizun’s special glass-heart maiden.)
So! Who is this elusive, mythical Binghe we never got the chance to meet? What is he? How do I get to pick this one’s brains?
Why is he haunting me! What does he want! So much to think about.
Listen: I love my trash sons, both the racoon and wet dog variations, but I am curious about this handsome demon lord who did not bed thousands, and did not steal his shizun to lovingly coax him into a loving and respectful marriage. Alas, Airplane-bro, as is custom, has left me hanging.
The solitary quote above has been floating around my brainspace for months. Intermittently, I would look up at the sky and sigh a big sad dog sigh, and think of this lonely demon-man emperor who seems to be both perfectly representative of No-Shizunitis Suffering Binghe, and on the exact opposite end of the line. I have spent many a night trying to rearrange the blocks of both SVSSS and PIDW like a sad toddler with no plan but plenty of amorphous longing.
Thus, Bing-xióng. My beloved new toy.
We know he is left alone and unaging. This means that:
He does not marry even once. (Sorry, Other Bing Variants. This one came broken.)
He is not defeated, killed, or left to suffer his not-father’s fate of sulking under a mountain.
From 1) we can assume two more things! Xin Mo either gets fixed/doesn’t influence this Binghe the same way, or: Xin Mo is completely written off à la Airplane Retconning, making Binghe potentially even more individually powerful than his younger counterparts.
(Or he just. Takes people’s cultivation ad-infinitum. Interesting thought, but too straight-forward for my tastes. Airplane’s thoughts? Unknowable.)
From 2) we can also assume Binghe cannot die, is under the influence of the Protagonist Halo unto infinity, and will only be put out of his misery once the heat death of the universe deems it a worthwhile endeavour. Either that or the story ends, but. It tickles a miserable part of my brain pink to think Binghe will not be let off even then.
Anyway. Bing-xióng, of course, has the same source material to work off of. Up until the Abyss, and including it, the plotline should be if not the same, adjacent enough to be indistinguishable.
However. This means:
Bing-xióng never got coerced into sex by Qin Wanyue, thus not starting him on the path of sex-dependency/addiction, avoiding Bing-gē’s fate by virtue of the Butterfly Effect. (Read this post because it explains Bing-gē's whole thing better than a lot of things I've seen.)
Again, Xin Mo implications.
Alternate Universe Shenanigans make an appearance. (Shen Jiu’s fever and death was actually meant to happen, Bing-gē just got very, very unlucky and his Universe’s Yue Qingyuan very, very lucky. For a few years. Either that or there is a Shen Yuan for every Binghe! Again: sorry, Bing-gē. You need to find your own. Middle child issues…)
Once the drafts/original outline got lost, all bets are off and now the characters become real people, without narrative influence. This also has the very fucked up implication that Bing-gē is actually a result of exlusively external forces and would have never gone down that path if not forced onto it by Airplane’s unwitting hands. I do and do not love this version. Very Mo Ran-esque, if looked at from afar and squinting.
Other options I’m either too not-high to think, or too high to put together. (Cold medicine is insane?)
I am fascinated by this… Schrödinger’s Binghe. A jaded, lonely emperor left in the ashes of his world, gazing upon his own history and finding fucking nothing and no one. Metaphorically and, like, practically, if I’m understanding Airplane’s musings correctly. Isolated, cursed by his own blood in a completely new and fucked up way!
I need Airplane to speak with me for like, half an hour. This is paramount to my mental health, I’m losing my braincells by the hour.
What happened to this impervious, cocky, badass demon bastard lord to become so alone? How did it happen? Why did it not happen to the other two, or at least Bing-gē, who has had everything horrible and shitty thing possible and impossible piled onto his head? What the fuck is up with Xin Mo? Why isn’t it eating away at Big Bro Luo? Or, worse: why is it eating away at him in such a way that instead of turning into a violent yet charismatic, horror-creature of a man, it turns him into the existential terror-fate I’ve contemplated and abhorred since I was seven?
Tianlang-jun as the final boss. Discovering Huan Hua Palace Master’s crimes, deceit and… stuff. Perhaps even uncovering Shen Jiu’s backstory.
Ooh! Worse! Or better? What if he finds out everything, after having followed Bing-gē’s path, and simply… gives up? A grown up Bing-gē, minus the marriage and surrogate-lover part(s).
(More unlikely than other options, but still there, I guess.)
Fucking insane of MXTX to do this to me, personally and specifically.
I can only speculate forever, I guess! Left… alone and pondering forever.
So. Not a Bing-gē, and not a Bing-mei. A Bing-xióng, if you will.

Calm down, Shen Yuan.  Airplane needs something right now!  There's no time to answer questions like "how'd you find my address?" or "I'm on the 6th story of an apartment complex, how the hell did you get here?" or--

Transcript: 2-Panel Comic [Panel 1] Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky, a bit sweaty, wearing an apologetic smile, is half-way through climbing into someone's room through the window. He nervously says, "Hey, Cucumber-bro! Sorry for showing up without notice! I need help with a thing..." [Panel 2] Shen Yuan is in his bed, startled, sat up, blanket thrown off. He had just been awoken, not wearing his glasses, hair slightly disheveled, and has bags under his eyes. He screams at Airplane, "How the fuck did you get my address?!" /End Transcript
