“Rumi doesn't care” “Rumi still loves Jinu” “she wasn't mad at him”
you do know that that's not how it works, right?
i'm not saying that Jinu is pure evil and that Rujinu are 100% toxic. i do think that they have the potential to be a healthy couple if Jinu works on his flaws and makes the effort to be a better person (that is, if he's not dead lol).
but saying that “she loves him so it's not toxic” is the stupidest thing ever.
i guess by that logic, we could say that Edward isn't a weird creepy stalker because Bella still loves him.
or that Noah literally threatening to kill himself so Allie would date him isn't toxic, because she ends up falling in love with him. see how stupid that sounds?
there are toxic elements to this ship, and you have to acknowledge it. even if Jinu loved Rumi and he was being manipulated by Gwi-Ma, that still doesn't excuse his actions.
and saying that Rumi doesn't care is dismissing everything that she went through. she was publicly exposed, humiliated and led to believe that her friends hated her. and it was all Jinu's scheme.
he even used Rumi's own words against her, calling her a mistake. that was a very personal detail that she shared with him because she felt vulnerable and safe enough to do so, and he used it against her.
Rumi still believing in Jinu's potential to change doesn't mean all of his flaws are erased. it's more of a testament to Rumi's character that she was still willing to give him a chance. that doesn't suddenly make him an innocent victim.
i feel like most of the fans are on either end of the spectrum — it's either “Jinu is pure evil and deserves to burn in hell” or “Jinu has never done anything wrong and anyone who dislikes him is stupid and media illiterate”.
like,, there's a middle ground here. he's a morally grey character. he is capable of both good and bad, and he has done both. that's the beauty of his character. the movie doesn't shy away from showing his flaws but the fans are just proving why a lot of kpop idols get away with doing shitty things, because they're conventionally attractive.

this is what those c//a stans view us as ☠️
I just saw a post around the c/a, anti c/a circles saying people (like critical blogs) are "dedicating their lives to calling a ship from a children's show abusive are weird and annoying" and like. They realize the people who run the blogs are Not in fact, dedicating their lives to being antis right? Like it's a critical blog. Of Course your going to see basically only critical posts. That's the Point of the blog. That doesn't mean people are sitting in front of their computers 24/7 making posts about how they don't like a certain ship. People have other interests and lives outside of their blogs. Sometimes the blogs are side blogs etc.
I just think it's silly to accuse people who are critical of something of wasting their lives towards something that probably doesn't even take up that much space to begin with.
Feel free to ignore this.
Nah, let's talk about this.
I've lost count of all the times I've seen this kind of posts/comments about critical accounts. It's not hard to scroll down our posts and see that we talk about all sorts of things, even if we have a theme. That goes for all the active Spop critical accounts, not just mine.
But these fans don't care about our opinion or the points we make. They don't want a mature confrontation, they just want our silence. Since they're uncapable of writing down a good counter-argument, they use similar shaming tattics of the people who make fun of fandoms, like calling us weirdos, losers or telling us we need to touch some grass.
And of course, they accuse criticals of having bias and being bigots. Because if I start a discussion by calling someone a -phobic -ist it means, I automatically win. Right?
Sometimes it feels like these fans are trying to gaslight us.
"Catra and Adora aren't a toxic couple! They're not adoptive sisters! It's all your head! Because you have internalized lesbophobia and butchphobia and what-not!"

remember when i talked about how unfunny and awkward most of spop's jokes were? there were a few good jokes in there but most of them were either “oh no bow's vOiCe cRaCkS because he's a teenage boy”, or just straight up bullying people for no reason.
and i want to bring up that episode where glimmer and adora meets bow's dads because am i the only one who found that episode so unfunny?
i saw a lot of people talking about how funny adora was when she was pretending to know about school and education, but god, it was so painfully awkward and more secondhand embarrassment than actually funny.
i guess it was funny the first time but then she keeps talking in this weird tone and cadence (if you watched the episode, you know what i'm talking about) as if that's somehow going to make her sound academically smart?? she even uses that same cadence while saying “for the honor of grayskull” even though she's never said it that way before and it makes no sense for her to suddenly say it that way.
i'm not surprised by her being socially awkward, it makes sense because she was raised in the horde. but this particular moment is weird because it's not “in-character stupid”, it's just stupid.
ofc this is just a personal gripe, it's not that deep. but while i don't mind an unfunny joke here or there, an entire episode of it is too much.

Ive been on an anti-c//a kick lol so I'm back again with another ask (kind of a mini vent, if I'm being honest)
Sometimes I wonder if pointing out the red flags of c//a is even worth it. If you try and argue why it's a toxic yet romanticized ship of an abuser dating their victim, the stans will just insult you and say you didn't watch the show correctly. But then those same stans ignore all the horrible things that catra did to adora, saying that "she's only hurting her because she loves her." Heck, I used to believe that. And stans will say she apologized and got redeemed in the end, when she did NOTHING to earn redemption. She didn't act sorry for killing thousands of people and abusing adora at ALL. It baffles me how more people don't see these obvious atrocities. When I first watched she-ra, I knew that c//a was going to be canon, so I was eager to see Adora and Catra's romantic tension. Only, there wasn't any of that, and all I got was catra being rude and aggressive and annoying for 4 seasons until the writers said "wait... nate, we have to redeem her now??" From the VERY FIRST SCENE where she appears, I never liked Catra. I tried to tell myself I didn't fully comprehend how genius her character arc was, and that I would come to like her eventually. I never did. I wish I listened to my gut so I could save myself years of lying to myself (and save myself from drawing really cringey c//a art, ew).
And just when you've given irrefutable evidence on why c//a is a bad ship, they say it's a kids show and that you're looking too far into it 🙄
At least I know I'm not crazy because of blogs like yours :3
i think it's worth it because some fans do change their mind. there are, of course, always people who will insist that their ship is healthy and unproblematic no matter what you say, but if at least one of them understands the point i'm trying to make, it's worth it for me. like you said, you used to believe that catra loved adora too, until you realized the truth.
my intention was never to shame people for liking a certain ship anyway. it's simply to address how the romanticization of abuse and toxic relationships can be very harmful since fiction impacts real life in a lot of ways. but a lot of stans see my blog or anyone else who criticizes spop, and thinks that we're trying to police fandoms or act morally superior or something. nothing we can do about that, honestly.
and yeah, i started watching spop because someone talked about how c//a was friends to enemies to lovers, and i thought that was an interesting dynamic. and it still is, if it's carried out well.
i kept waiting for catra's redemption, i was sure that it would happen after the whole portal incident, after adora finally stands up to catra and stops taking the fall for her. to me, that was the perfect point to kickstart catra's redemption but nope, she just doubles down and continues being evil.
anyway, i'm proud of you for realizing just how problematic this was. even if you did ship c//a before, what matters is that you're able to look back on it and recognize the flaws now.
and you can still enjoy a show while acknowledging that it had some iffy/problematic aspects. a lot of people don't seem to realize that.
hell, if i hated spop entirely, i wouldn't make this blog or still make fanart of its characters. if the show was entirely bad, i would just write it off as a waste of my time and move on. the reason i feel so strongly about it is because it had potential and could have been a great show.

lilith should have stayed a villain honestly. her dynamic with eda was so interesting, her devotion towards belos was a stark contrast to eda's disdain for him, and while lilith wasn't always the most efficient or intimidating villain, she served her purpose quite well.
but not only was her redemption absolute trash, with everyone forgiving her immediately, but she also serves no real purpose to the story going forward.
there was so much you could have done with an ex-member of the emperor's coven. she would have known belos a lot better than any of our protagonists (except for hunter). she could have been a very valuable member of the team, but instead she almost immediately leaves to stay with her mother. which, sure, on an emotional aspect, it's good but it doesn't really drive the plot forward.
the one time she was useful was in the time travelling episode. and honestly?? this could have been done by anyone. we didn't even know lilith had an interest in history until that episode. she could have been replaced by any other character who also knew a bit about history, and the episode would have been the same.
hunter was also underutilized as someone who knew belos on a personal basis. but at least he has the excuse of joining the protagonists late, and there wasn't enough time in the show for him to really put his experience in the emperor's coven to good use.

that's why i said traditionally feminine. going to the spa or wearing pink isn't inherently feminine (or exclusive to ANY gender, for that matter) but it is quite often considered feminine, or less masculine.
it's definitely a thing where i'm from but that's not specific to my country. i've seen plenty of men, from the US and from other countries, bash male kpop idols for doing skincare or even just maintaining good hygiene, because apparently that's “too girly” or “gay” 💀 things are changing, thankfully, but these gender norms still exist so i thought i'd address them.
another thing that KPDH gets right is that they have a chubby male character who is not the butt of fatphobic jokes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in any other movie, a character like Bobby would be the comic relief — the bumbling, incompetent fat character who probably eats too much and is constantly made fun of.
but the writers of this movie treat him like any other character. he's funny but he's not pushed into the role of comic relief. in fact, all of the characters in this movie have their own funny moments, there is no comic relief.
he is also competent enough as the manager of Huntrix. of course he doesn't know that they're demon hunters, but he handles everything else well, even defending Rumi from the fans when she was having issues with her voice.
there are no comments made about his body and no mean-spirited jokes made at his expense. in fact, the girls are very fond of him and look up to him, to the point where Zoey and Mira ditch their show to save him when they thought he was being attacked by demons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bobby also has a traditionally feminine side without, again, being made fun of or infantilized for it. he wears pink face masks and dressing gowns, he matches outfits with his girl group, he dances to trendy boy band songs, but none of it is exaggerated or played for laughs. and he's not given the Gay Best Friend™ treatment either or paraded around like a purse dog.
and while his character isn't too deeply explored, he has his own issues. he cares so deeply about Huntrix and Gwi-Ma is able to convince him that he was the reason they broke up.
a lot of movies don't know when to tone down the comedic characters and has them being goofy and annoying during a serious moment (*cough* the hunchback of notre dame with the fucking gargoyles *cough*) so i'm glad this movie gave Bobby some depth and had him deal with his own insecurities during the third act.

oh my god I saw the post about everyone misinterpreting celine and I. I read a fic I thought looked interesting (it’s the only one I’ve read from this fandom) and . She was. SO OOC?????? THEY WROTE HER AS A COLD BLOODED HEARTLESS GHOUL WHO DIDNT CARE ABOUT RUMI WHATSOEVER??? AND SEEMED TO BELIEVE THAT WAS GENUINELY WHAT SHE WAS LIKE?????? DID WE WATCH THE SAME MOVIE????????????????? WHAT????????????????????????????????
anyways that was so fucking jarring and pissed me off so bad I have to tell literally everyone about it and now im too afraid to read any other fics bc what if that’s what fanon her is like and tbey all write her like taht.
what is media literacy right
god yeah, this has been happening ever since movies like Encanto, Coco and Turning Red. i get that a lot of people have personal experience with guardians who are too controlling, demanding or otherwise toxic. i have similar experiences too. but it's important to see the character as a whole and pay attention to their intentions.
it's really not that hard to recognize that a person can mean well and still do the wrong thing. and that doesn't mean they shouldn't be held responsible for their actions, they absolutely should. but also, don't paint them as Pure Evil Villains™??
i even saw some people say that Celine is worse than Gwi-Ma??? 😭 i sincerely hope that was a joke because there's no way people think that a misguided, likely traumatized woman is worse than a literal demon king that feeds off of human souls.

How would you write a fic happening after Season 5, in which Catra ACTUALLY puts in the work to redeem herself and atone for her crimes?
after s5? okay, this one is difficult. because if Catra was to redeem herself, she should be doing it in s5, since that's when the writers want us to believe that Catra becomes a good person.
but okay, since you asked, here's how i think it would work. since Catra was still selfish and abusive in s5, someone should call her out on it. best if Adora or Glimmer does it. they tell her that if she was going to stay in Brightmoon with them, she was going to have to put in work to prove that she's a better person.
Catra should definitely atone for her war crimes, so i think partial imprisonment + community service is the best option. and through the community service, Catra comes to understand how much the people of Etheria has suffered because of the Horde, because of HER. kind of like how Zuko discovers how the Earth Kingdom citizens suffered because of the Fire Nation.
none of the civilians trust her yet and are openly hostile towards her. some of them pull their children away as soon as they see her. Catra doesn't realize this at first but this upsets her. not because she wants everyone to forgive her and ignore all her crimes, but because she genuinely wants to be a good person and make it up to these people whose lives she played with.
she sees their scars, some of them mourning the loss of a family member, someone being plagued by nightmares or triggered by loud noises. and though Catra was, in part, the cause of all this, she knows all too well what it's like to be traumatized. and so she tries to connect with them, console them, help them pick flowers for the grave. putting in ACTUAL work instead of just pouting and looking guilty, or demanding that everyone forgive her.
as for Adora, i'd like to imagine that Catra and Adora break up after like a month of dating because it doesn't work out. they don't really love each other, at least not in the romantic sense. and staying in the relationship is harmful for both of them. there's no salvaging this relationship so they decide to mutually break up.
i think the best option for Catra would be to work on her trauma responses, her anger management issues and her toxic tendencies with someone who can actually help her, who wasn't one of her victims. (so no, NOT Adora, not Scorpia or Glimmer either and not Perfuma. maybe Madame Razz?)

(please don't attack op if you find this post!)
and this is how you know some fans fundamentally misunderstood these characters and the ship as a whole. i don't care if it's a joke, the whole “i can fix him” trope is bad for many reasons, and it pisses me off that people think that Rujinu is an example of that trope.
Rumi loved Jinu, sure, but she would never defend him. there's a difference between knowing that a person has capacity for good, and just straight up defending all their shitty actions and saying that they did nothing wrong.
“oh but she wasn't even mad at Jinu for betraying her!” she was! she literally screams at him. she was mad at him, she was just also disappointed because he showed her that he was capable of doing good and still ended up betraying her last minute.
just because Rumi still believed that Jinu could be a better person doesn't mean she's defending him.
and she wasn't trying to “fix” him either, for that matter. he's a grown man, he doesn't need a woman to fucking fix him. he betters and somewhat redeems himself in the end, because he wants to. because he cares about Rumi and he feels guilty for what he did to her.
the “i can fix him” trope is so inherently misogynistic because it treats women as caretakers who are supposed to be eternally patient with men and show them the right way, and it treats men as children who can't recognize their own flaws or take responsibility for their actions.
and it's WILD that fans are applying this trope to a movie that is all about powerful complex female characters. crazy.

can we talk about how incredibly fucking insulting it is that Catra became a Force Captain just because, when Adora worked for her entire life to get to that point? and we can see that she worked that hard, because there's of the flashback to her training as a cadet?
like, Adora had the experience, she earned her right to be a Force Captain, and i don't care how uncanon it may be, there is no way she grew up without corporal punishment if she made mistakes.
meanwhile, Catra's been riding on Adora's fucking coattails and is the reason why she's alone, because none of the other cadets like Catra, and for good reason, and why she's held back so much, because Catra doesn't want to let go of her security blanket.
then Hordak just replaces a strong, capable, very smart girl with someone who had never tried hard enough, yet kept whining and complaining when everyone doubted her abilities and didn't have faith that she'd make it very far, for what?
if anything, he should've given it to someone like Lonnie, since he wants to be throwing the badge around like candy.

oh btw i've been seeing Rumi get the Adora treatment recently. a.k.a. people acting like she's dumb or naive or too fragile that she constantly has to be protected.
now i'm all for hurt-comfort and for traumatized characters to finally let their guard down and be taken care of. but you don't have to dumb down a character to do that.
people see a traumatized yet kind and optimistic character who always sees the good in everyone, and immediately come to the conclusion that they're a himbo or “too pure for this world”, and can't do anything themselves.
do i have to remind you that Rumi is a skilled fighter who has killed hundreds of demons? or that her demon side seems to be canonically more powerful than the other demons, with her scream singlehandedly weakening the Honmoon? or that she's been shown to be very smart and calculated too, along with being emotionally intelligent?
i guess i'm not surprised since these types of fans are everywhere, especially in bigger fandoms. but i really don't understand how you see a character who is so multifaceted, complex and real, and decide that they're just a himbo/bimbo or a fragile little baby.

Can you elaborate on why you dislike Timebomb? No pressure, just curious.
Tumblr media
You guys really like when I criticize a ship, don't you?
Okay, my negative opinion on Timebomb can be devided in two points;
1. It's unecessary
2. It makes no sense!
Jinx had a lot of things going on in season 1 and Ekko wasn't on top of the list of her priorities. Same goes for the boy savior. He wanted to stop Silco, protect his people and fight against Piltover oppression. Ekko and Jinx both hate enforcers, but other things that matter to one don't matter to the other.
I understand Ekko felt sorry for what happened to Powder, but it wasn't his mission to reunite with her and maybe help her. That was Vi's whole motivation in season 1. And Jinx wasn't interested in fixing her relationship with Ekko either, given how little she cared about him in both seasons.
Jinx and Ekko were friends when they were kids and grew up to be completely different individuals. Two people don't have to end up in a relationship just because they used to be close.
But frankly that's not even the worst part of Timebomb for me. I can enjoy a rushed ship (Huntolw) or a ship that came out of nowhere (Scorfuma), but this ship existence goes against everything we saw in the first season!
Why should Jinx love Ekko after his team messed up with Silco multiple times and attacked her to get the stone?
Why should Ekko love Jinx after she killed many of his friends and almost blowed him up?
Realistically they should hate each other, which is why the writers had to insert an AU plot where Jinx is this perfect girl that Ekko can easily fall in love with.
Powder in that episode is like Isha: her personality revolves around one person and she's not allowed to be anything else than what Ekko needs her to be. Powder is still a genius, but she has nothing going on in her life because she needs to be there for Ekko when he asks for her help. She's either an assistant or a love prize. How do you reduce such a tragic and complex character like Jinx to a sidekick/love interest cliché???
When Ekko returns to his dimension, he has to prevent Jinx from taking her life. Why? I mean, I know the plot-reason, but why should Ekko save Jinx? She's still the same person who killed his friends and has never taken accountability for that. Just because she took a random kid with her (which Ekko wouldn't even know) it doesn't mean she's suddently a new person. Not olny Ekko saved her offscreen, he got himself hurt in the process and risked to die in the explosion too!
In conclusion, both Ekko and Jinx deserved better than what they got in season 2.

Why do people think the scene where Catra gave Glimmer cake in season 5 is cute?
She was trying to get informations for Prime!
And when she did, she wasted no time before telling him that Adora was on a spaceship directed to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"But aww! Glimmer talked about wanting to eat cake with Adora and Bow, so Catra got some for her!"
Yeah, that's called manipulation. It's not so different from when Catra promised Entrapta that she could have all the tech she wanted if she joined the Horde.
Personally, I wouldn't eat something that the person who caused my mom's death gave me. Even if Catra obviously didn't bake that cake.

Even though you hate her, was there any parts in the show where you legitimately felt sorry for Catra?
Tumblr media
That scene where little Adora and Catra hid in Shadow Weaver's room and when they got caught, only Catra was punished. No, actually she was threatened with death by the adult who she saw as her mother figure. All because they went in a room they weren't allowed into.
It's not like they did something dangerous and Shadow Weaver lost it because her prodigy could have died. But isn't that how abusive parents are? They'll have exagerated reactions to nothing and still make their child feel guilty.
Another moment where I felt in part sorry for Catra was in season 2, when she descovered that Shadow Weaver used her to escape the Horde prisons. Catra's valid reaction and AJ amazing voice acting sold that scene, but I can't be fully invested because of how Catra made fun of Adora for being easy to manipulate.
I also felt bad when Catra and Shadow Weaver met again in season 3.
"Do you know what happened to me after you escaped? Do you even care!? You couldn't wait to get away from here! From me. . . But you came back for Adora"
Another valid crash out and perfect voice acting.
