This has been a very fun event to run, it's been amazing seeing all the answers everyone gave!

Sorry this is all /gen with no malice or hate intended, i just want to understand;

Isn't this unhealthy? Maladaptive daydreaming is a disorder, and surely this event encourages people suffering from it to sink deeper into the disorder? I had MaDD most of my life, and it was hard to get out of. Im sorry but i find it hard to understand how encoraging such a destructive coping mechanism is healthy?

Does it not do harm to maladaptive daydreamer to encorage them to think more about their paracosms rather than trying to root them in reality?

This is all something I considered prior to the event, but bear in mind that I can't control who takes part. If this event is distressing to other MADDers, obviously I'd advise against taking part.

My answers to these are slightly based in personal experiences, but -

This event isn't to encourage daydreaming, but to get creative and express yourself through art, writing, or other art forms, which, to me at least, is a good way of staying out of actually daydreaming. I find that even just talking to other people about my paracosms is also a good way to keep my mind from wandering back to daydream, too - as it keeps me focused on articulating my thoughts, rather than having everything solely concepts.

This is supposed to be a way to create something good, something more than a daydream, out of a disorder that - as you mentioned - is hard to recover from. It also serves as a way to bring together people with similar experiences. I haven't been in MADD communities for long, but I think I would have felt better about myself, and less alone, knowing that other people share my experiences. I know it's called MADDvent, but this was also not strictly for MADDers. IDers, writers, whoever else, are all welcome.
