Seed Cycling
What is seed cycling? It is the practice of consuming specific types of seeds during the two phases of the menstrual cycle. Hormonal balance may be promoted by leveraging the nutrients in the seeds to support estrogen and progesterone levels.
1. Follicular Phase
This phase begins on the first day of menstruation and lasts until ovulation.
Seeds: Flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds are commonly consumed during this phase.
Flaxseeds: Contain lignans, which may help balance estrogen levels.
Pumpkin seeds: High in zinc, which supports progesterone production for the next phase.
2. Luteal Phase
This phase starts after ovulation and ends at the start of the next period. This phase is typically 10-16 days.
Seeds: Sesame seeds and sunflower seeds are typically consumed.
Sesame seeds: Rich in lignans, which can help modulate hormone levels.
Sunflower seeds: High in selenium, which supports detoxification and hormone metabolism.
