HOLDING UP THE UNIVERSE
Tumblr media
4.5 /5 STARS from me, no need for explanation...because... truly, in love with this book, I LAUGHED, TEARY-SMILES, S ALL GOOD!!! summary i took from:
About Holding Up the Universe. From the author of the New York Times bestseller All the Bright Places comes a heart-wrenching story about what it means to see someone—and love someone—for who they truly are. Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed “America's Fattest Teen.”
Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed “America’s Fattest Teen.” But no one’s taken the time to look past her weight to get to know who she really is. Following her mom’s death, she’s been picking up the pieces in the privacy of her home, dealing with her heartbroken father and her own grief. Now, Libby’s ready: for high school, for new friends, for love, and for EVERY POSSIBILITY LIFE HAS TO OFFER. In that moment, I know the part I want to play here at MVB High. I want to be the girl who can do anything. Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. Yes, he’s got swagger, but he’s also mastered the impossible art of giving people what they want, of fitting in. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: he can’t recognize faces. Even his own brothers are strangers to him. He’s the guy who can re-engineer and rebuild anything in new and bad-ass ways, but he can’t understand what’s going on with the inner workings of his brain. So he tells himself to play it cool: Be charming. Be hilarious. Don’t get too close to anyone. Until he meets Libby. When the two get tangled up in a cruel high school game—which lands them in group counseling and community service—Libby and Jack are both pissed, and then surprised. Because the more time they spend together, the less alone they feel. . . . Because sometimes when you meet someone, it changes the world, theirs and yours.

i’m back & recharge part ii
And for today... i was deeply saddened by the recent news of KATE SPADE’s co founder, the creative founder as the real Kate Spade has died, and found dead on her apartment in apparent suicide. Kate Spade is one of the brands that i look up to till today; i don’t know what to say... somedays i have been juggling myself with how i’m feeling with my past, my present, my future, and how i should i have been reacted for each--such as uncertainty conditions, the loneliness, that empty wall--feeling unappreciated, not included or those minds that keep playing on your head...but i have to, well, still and keep remaining positive and take a deep breath...let God do the rest...i googled Kate Spade, reading her history who had built a wonderful brand from a humble beginnings with her husband..they were really successful till today.. i guess it was proven that money can’t buy happiness but it was made to be provided or sufficient and maybe, i don’t know... there are always something that maybe it’s hard to explain...but some are vivid..too..so, there’s always hope & light...for those questions. To keep remain yourself as close to God and reach for help with those whom you trust.
As for detailed reviews of The Bright Places, which mine is unfinished, but im too tired to explain, so here’s some reviews from the internet that best CAPTURED my feelings & what i was attained to do so.
Ending my writings with next fan-cast, will be posted later !

Review:
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
BY ALEX TOWNSEND ON JANUARY 16, 2015
I went into All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven with my guard up. No matter how good or bad the book was, I knew a story about depression was likely to trigger my own. No surprise, it did. All the Bright Places is a beautifully written book that is, at times, very difficult to read.
I’d like to warn the reader up front that this review will have some pretty big spoilers.
All the Bright Places
is about two teens with depression. Violet’s sister died in a car accident the previous year and Violet blames herself for it. Finch has a long history of acting out and having sudden extreme mood swings. It is heavily implied that he is also bi-polar. At the start of the book both teens have suicidal thoughts, but Finch manages to talk Violet off of a ledge and Violet becomes Finch’s new reason for living. From there the story becomes about their budding romance as well as their personal growth. They learn about themselves and each other while exploring the hidden wonders of Indiana.Violet and Finch are both very well-written and developed characters. It’s interesting to see them evolve and to understand more of their personal histories. It’s poignant, slice-of-life stuff and the John Green comparisons are sure to pop up. As a representation of how it
feels
to be depressed,
All the Bright Places
does a great job. I connected with the way Finch needed to find an active reason to stay alive, how he regularly pushed himself to physical exertion to feel life pumping through him, but still couldn’t stop himself from thinking about all the ways people have killed themselves. It’s a great illustration of the contradictions that can fill a person with depression. However, now we come to the book’s greatest flaw: this is not a book for people
with
depression. I would absolutely not recommend it for anyone with depression who was looking for representation. The problem, and this is the big spoiler I mentioned, is that one of the protagonists kills himself. I was worried about this for the entire book. I kept flipping ahead and peaking at the last page, knowing what I saw and hoping I was wrong.Of the two, Finch is the character with the more deep-rooted mental issues. It’s made clear through the book that he’s had suicidal thoughts for years, which hasn’t been made easier by years of bullying in school, an absent mother, and an abusive father. Being with Violet makes things better for a time, but as the book progresses I could see his dark thoughts coming back. In the end, he runs away from home and isn’t heard from for weeks. Finally Violet finds him, drowned in a lake where they’d had a date.Suicide is a delicate topic to put in any story. Sometimes it’s used for sensationalism and sometimes it’s meant to illustrate poignant tragedy. In a book about depression though, it’s simply an essential element to discuss. Sadly, depression and suicide go together all too often in the real world. Unfortunately, Finch’s suicide is one that is handled poorly, ruining much of the book.Once Finch dies, I feel that
All the Bright Places
really shows its true colors. I have seen this novel advertised as a story about teenage depression, but I don’t think that’s quite right. It’s a book for people with
friends
who commit suicide. The author admits at the end that it was an experience she went through herself and the last chunk of the story is all about Violet coping with losing Finch. In his absence Finch goes from being an interesting, well-rounded character to a manic pixie dream-boy. Prior to killing himself he left all sort of special messages for Violet to find, final love letters to the wonder of their romance. During this section Violet doesn’t question what was going through Finch’s mind or the tragedy of suicide. Instead it’s all about finding the next whimsical message and ultimately giving Violet the strength to move on with her life.It all left me incredibly sad and angry. Depression is a terrible illness that will regularly make a person believe the worst things about themself. It’s painful and it’s deadly and anyone with it knows that it’s daily struggle to find reasons to stay alive. Yes, there are wonderful people like Finch who lose that battle, but that isn’t the message that teens need to read about. What anyone with depression desperately needs is hope. We need to believe that we can get better, that we can get to a place somehow where we can function without that little voice saying “This would all be easier if you just died.”
All the Bright Places
does not leave the depressed reader with that hope. Instead it says, “If you die the right way, you can end up being an inspiration to others.”The book also does an awful job of portraying the means to recovery for depression or any mental illness. In the fashion of any 90’s coming-of-age story, Violet and Finch both grow and evolve entirely through talking to each other, whimsical adventures, and abstract philosophy. While those things might help some people, things like therapy and medication are often essential. In
All the Bright Places
both
standard treatment methods
are shown in a very negative light. Therapists are well-meaning adults who don’t really understand at best, or at worst will put in minimal effort to try and get the depressed kid back in line. At one point Violet finds Finch living in his bedroom closet and suggests therapy to him, only to have him run away. That winds up being the last time she sees him. She partially blames herself for his death because she pushed him to seek help. The only mention of medication comes when Finch drops in on a suicidal teens support group and sees several kids with “the dull, vacant look of people on drugs”. No one explains the benefits of antidepressants. Instead any hint of medical treatment is treated with disgust and outdated ideas. Finch says that medication will take away who you are or that or a medical label like “bipolar” will only reduce you to a crazy case-study. This notion is never refuted. It’s painful because the writing and the characters are wonderfully well-crafted, but if you’re looking for a book about depression I’d pass on this one. The demonization of proper treatment, the presence of possibly preventable suicide, and the sudden transformation of Finch into a manic pixie dream-boy all weigh the story down too much. Save yourself the heartache and read something with a bit more hope.

Like Eleanor & Park this book is told by dual narratives, the conversations from each side of characters by a boy called Finch and a girl named Violet. Sent from my iPhone

https://www.instagram.com/3jsb_hiroomi_tosaka/2. Shannon Purser (definitely my numero 1, sorry Juno)
omg! look at those photos : http://www.valheriarocha.com/shannon-purser-for-crybabyzine Shannon Purser looks amazingly gorgeous! i was thinking of who is going to be the perfect Eleanor...these days....i need more young & fresh faces... at first, i thought SADIE SINK because she has this really beautiful red-ginger hair & face...but she’s only 13...her body is kinda skinny...it doesn’t represent the fully figure woman. and that was it! BOOOOOM, why not BARB from STRANGER THINGS aka SHANNON PURSER, ladies and gents! just look at her, she’s like the younger generation of Melissa Mccarthy...+ she has this quirky young baby-cute style, so does Eleanor...so yeah she’s purfect... i think i have to change my mind...obviously, Juno Temple is no. 2nd...(i guess... 50:50, will give justice to barb xD)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Lily Cole
i love her!!!! i’ve been following her model career since like... i was in junior to hi-skool era...hahaha....Lily’s face is adorable unique and eccentric. i think her signature style comes from her pale skin, chubby face, she’s not just doing editorial or fashion shows, besides modelling...she’s an actress, my first time seeing her was in The Imaginarium Dr. Parnassus by Terry Gilliam. She worked with Andrew Garfield (he was an uprising actor too, i guess mostly in theaters...before Spiderman). yep, her eccentric features, makes me think that it would be nice watching her acts as Eleanor

UPDATED *07/06/18* <date/month/year>
4. KATHERINE LANGFORD (wait, SHE SHOULD BE NUMBER 1, (hmm...sorry barb.....)
it seemed while i was writing this...13 REASONS WHY wasn’t even started yet, but the book had shown everywhere, i knew the book first, but i had never bought it; then it came to be a SOON TO BE MAJOR MOVIE, and then again, NETFLIX came along... and everything told as SEASONS aka TV SERIES, and hyped already! i’m still in Ch.3 (Season 1), i saw her on LOVE SIMON! i thought She’s OK with her acting performances since she’s a newcomer; she is a natural! She’s really embodied on her movie parts. I think she’s perfect for being ELEANOR with her co-mates, Ross Butler (tho’ he’s asian too, but not Korean in real life, more like a Singaporean), still OK with it. I WANT HIM 2 BE PARK! I saw the S2 clips, that Hannah, her role in 13 Reasons Why, had a date with Ross Butler’s... so they should have had those chemistries before..

ELEANOR & PARK
Tumblr media
reviews <kinda>
HELLO WORLD, I have been kinda busy, and started neglecting this blog, but NO NO NO NO. i will never ever abandon you, even tho’ it takes time to write some more. So, why did i start writing again? it’s interesting, because my hi-skool friend, just recently asked me about reviews / thoughts about ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES by JENNIVER NIVEN, which was..it was supposed to be my first book to review, but i ended up with http://madewithpastels.tumblr.com/post/165868138226/fangirl-by-rainbow-rowell this one instead, hehe. tho’ i finished the book first. SO, LET’S GET BACK TO ELEANOR & PARK. i bought Eleanor & Park both with Fan Girl (all books by Rainbow Rowell); i started reading BOTH and finished Eleanor & Park earlier (it happened when i kinda felt bored with Fan Girl, so i kinda pause, and wanted to reading Eleanor & Park as fast as i could) because i just couldn’t bare with it... so here’s my long reviews....be prepared to snoooooozeeeee zzzzz haha
Eleanor & Park Eleanor & park is a coming of age story, where two misfits people ended up meeting on each other in such a mysterious magical way, well it’s on school bus, actually ha-ha, set in 1986, Nebraska.
Tumblr media
There are two main characters with dual narratives, firstly is Eleanor, whom is somewhat has ginger red hair, white pale -freckled face (um, actually i don’t remember her looks, but judging from all the fan-arts & from my imagination too that she has freckles) along with fully figure body, yep, even the author itself, Rowell doesn’t hesitate to reconfirm that Eleanor is actually f.a.t aka fat. How fat is she? Um (i don’t think it’s really that important or matter), because a lot of fans asking these kind of several questions that involve with “body issues” so i guess that’s why Rainbow Rowell putting statements here
(click the link)
http://www.rainbowrowell.com/news/2015/4/7/is-eleanor-fat-or-does-eleanor-just-think-shes-fat
Tumblr media
So far, i have rarely seen or heard this kind of representation, means that it’s a bold decision & good set examples that the girl has low self esteem but at the same time, she doesn’t care the way she dressed up and how her hair grows curly and other physique’s problem, etc. She realised that it’s her own attractiveness. I think Eleanor is unique. Although, i once read an interview somewhere that Eleanor is nobody’s character or not inspired by actual or real characters. In my opinion, Rainbow puts “a little bit” of her elements; Rainbow is curly, active, creative (needless to say), from her appeals; she has fully figure (looking from her photos around internet) and she said that this book was inspired by her childhood high-school, check out her interview:
http://www.rainbowrowell.com/news/2015/4/7/why-is-park-korean
especially on the bus. I figured, that was her kinda motivation or inspirations to make this book happening.
Secondly, what makes it more fascinating ; the other main character is an Asian guy, meaning Park. He’s part of the cool kids, and pretty much befriended with the leader pack (or he’s also kinda being the leader as well) along with other white kids. I like the fact that Nebraska where the town is probably like have the least asians, but this novel makes it, seemingly normal or make sense; like putting Park as a cool kid. Park is also biracial (he gets the Korean gene from his mother’s side & American dad). Park is super unique, he reminds me the guy from Scott Pilgrim vs The World (you know him & ramona, the blue hair— still no clue? Another link:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Irmhi9flGMM
Tumblr media
He’s also a COMIC NERD (again, see...another Rowell’s elements, she also writes for marvel YA’s anti hero “The Runaways” you guys can streaming on HULU or HOOQ,i assumed..she’s definitely a fan-girl too) there’s an Xmen scenes, i like it very much, cant tell ya, no spoilers)
Tumblr media
and he plays in a band? (Um wait, he plays guitar-but not in a band, i just made it up) He writes song playlist: http://www.rainbowrowell.com/news/eleanor-park-all-the-playlists-all-the-music YEP WE CAN HEAR IT TOO <3to Eleanor (um, somehow this thing is kinda overrated, reminds me of 500 days of summer, but still cute tho’ hahaha). Um just to make sure, Eleanor & Park is way different than Fan Girl, it has somewhat “The Fault in Our Stars” vibes, it’s like a dark-emo-less comedy-still cute *again*-love story. It’s more like..... i don’t know, maybe “self-explanatory” it’s more emphasised on this YA’s theme. There’s a scene where Park once questioned himself whether he’s gay or not because of his “wimpy-nerd” or different looks when he was a kid & having those unrequited love stories or not to have feelings towards girl or just being confused or whatever i guess. He also idolises David Bowie, a legendary-icon. See..what I’m trying to say, that i guess...Rowell’s want to explain that it’s not just girls but also boys do that too, well some boys..it’s normal thing to do to talk or sharing thoughts about gender or being “fluid”.
Here’s another fan-art picture Park wears eyeliner. This scene is so memorable. i was HOOOOKEDDDD <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, i like Eleanor & Park a bit than Fan Girl (despite all the tedious long-some unnecessary details plus the book is 100 pages *i dunno the exact numbers* thicker than Eleanor & Park, this is one the best Fan Girl things hahaha) I begin to wonder for these books, they both have commons of course it’s a coming of age story, and the girls always have difficult family backgrounds. Not in financially (well i dunno) well they both come from middle up family but disturbing family, especially with “father figures” i wonder what makes Rainbow Rowell to put those essences & emotions to each of stories. Is it based on her personal experiences or probably her circles? I know that life is not all about fairy tales, but i think it’s more intriguing to have those “imbalances”. It’s something that you have to compromise with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, there’s a bunch of scenes that makes you feel “aaaaaawwww” well there’s also some boring details (not that boring, but a bit of cheeeesssy parts, and still fine “OK” haha) especially those love, life quotes or whatever, which some of them, still truly inspiring and a lot of unexpected plot twists and be prepared to cry, laugh, hurt. Enjoy reading Eleanor & Park!
and....despite all the news here
https://www.hypable.com/rainbow-rowell-says-eleanor-and-park-movie-isnt-happening/
that is somewhat not going to happen BUT, still....
My next post will be my fan casting, d’0h hahahahahha  xoxo
PS, THERE’S AN UPDATE
A SEQUEL, WE HOPE!!!! <i dont actually care if this book is going to be trilogy, but if they are going to be filmed, i hope it’s only ONE-SHOW, seriously, don’t make it into like Hunger Games, issa bad enough already>

LEVI/ NICK = DARREN CRISS / GRANT GUSTIN / HUNTER PARRISH? i dunno man... i mean Darren could be NICK (?).. but... i feel like darren got this super laid back attitude plus he plays guitar + he has a great body.... but other times, i think he can be NICK.. but.. i wanne him, as LEVI, i mean GRAN GUSTIN has also the perfect hair cut.. but..then, i see HUNTER PARRISH (wholly he’s definetely LEVI too)... i guess.... LEVI = HUNTER PARRISH & NICK IS EITHER DARREN CRISS/ GRANT GUSTIN...

1. CATH/ WREN = ZOEY DEUTCH her bare face is just perfect she can be this nerdy & happy go lucky at the same time, it seems that she never cuts her hair short or gone pixie, but i think it’s a great choice/ challenge for her + i think she needs to gain her weigh a bit for this movie...her body is kinda athletic tho’
2. REAGAN = ALIA SHAWKAT, her voluptuous body is just perfect, she gets this perfect flirty & curly hair, and those deep staring eyes with black eye liner, she looks cool & rebellious, a great choice for reagan! she could dye her hair light-brown
tbc...
ps: didnt’ i mention earlier about Reagan? http://madewithpastels.tumblr.com/post/165868138226/fangirl-by-rainbow-rowell on my previous post? hm... i guess n-o-t. WELL, Reagan is a girl, that’s why i put Alia Shawkat as my dream cast. She was Cath’s roommate. Cath had always been feeling intimidated with Reagan’s around; and turned out that Reagan had a past with Levi (he’s that farm-cool-outgoing boy), and there’s also NICK, a mysterious dude whose falling out somewhere..in between life, fan fiction, class..and so on, like i said “NO SPOILERS”. you gotta buy the book or google it :) hehe

Fangirl By Rainbow Rowell
I have never heard Rainbow Rowell before, until... i realized... that Eleanor & Park is also made by Rainbow Rowell, who is she, d’oh, just google it, here or here i give you, direct url:  http://www.rainbowrowell.com/fangirl just click it, not staring at them. When i was in the middle section of Fan Girl, i kinda felt boring, it’s like slow pacing story <https://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2014/jul/26/review-rainbow-rowell-fangirl *whoa turned out, we have the same feelings haha>, but, somehow i ended up finishing it, because i just wanted to know the end of story. it’s like redrawing the same pattern, you know... you like it at the first time, and then...it becomes tedious, but still alright, cuz you gotta finish it. I have always seen Eleanor & Park at the bookstore, but instead I bought Fan Girl, first. because.... i just love the cover.... like this below (but mine is no two bubble shapes of two dudes talkin, it’s the fan fiction characters that made by a girl, named Cath who has a twin sister named Wren).
Tumblr media
actually my cover is like this, the paperback ones, with “A NOVEL” texted on her laptop & no bubble like below, green colored. well, you can get some variery here, for hardcover ones, (with different pose for a dude, called LEXI, a barn boy (em, familly’s business in farming) who worked part timing in starbucks, and fell in love with the main character’s quirkiness, he’s soooo not like CATH, he’s like the most chillaxin bro ever, and super sweet without trash talks, humbled guy, and a gently one).
Tumblr media
I friggin love the illustrations, they are so familiar, oh, on the back of all cover book design, there’s this picture, here’s what i found from internet:
Tumblr media
from left to right: Art (Fragile Dad), Wren (Happy Go Lucky Twin), Cath (Introverted Main Fan Girl), Levi (Farm-Musically Boy), Reagan (Rebel & “I don’t give a f*uck” one), Nick (Words Are Necessary Feelings).
and, yep, i was right, the jacket & inside was illustrated by Noelle Stevenson, she is a comic artist/ creator of NIMONA & LUMBERJANES (so good)!!! check her website: http://www.gingerhaze.com/

back to FAN GIRL~
If you are a typical of FAN GIRL (like literally), who loves to do some daydreaming about a man or with a public figure, do some fantasizing your thang, well... this book is a perfect fit for you. oke, this book is no 50 Shades of Gray, but the story tells about a girl, first time, left her comfort zone, a coming of age, sets in fall semester, year 2011 (*weeelppp, i just realized, im older than her, big HA*) entering university who writes fan fiction like HARRY POTTER-ish, but this one is SIMON SNOW from a fictional fandom; with having troubled family background (her mother left the kids & her husband, because she’s not ready to have kids, instead of one, she got twins *ha-ha*, meaning CATH & WREN, btw their father’s name is ART, how cool is that?).  Even tho’ this book is about a twin, but i think the main character is Cath (the girl who writes fan-fiction; which ended up becoming a REAL BOOK by Rainbow Rowell, different characters, confused? fear not, just check out her website again: http://www.rainbowrowell.com/carry-on, so it’s like another spin-off coming from a fandom fiction (different universe, precisely). So.. Carry On is based on Gemma T. Leslie’s story (a fictional made character, which was an author on FAN GIRL universe *it’s like J.K Rowling).
Cath & Wren are two different people, even tho’ they are identical twins, they aint no The Olsens Twins. Cath is a ‘kinda’ introvert girl, while Wren is the outgoing one.  Sometimes, i feel i wanna smack this “Cath character” *at certain events*, cuz she makes it everything about her life so hard...well, at least she’s moving on, you go girl, changes is not easy! I guess, it’s because she’s having this anxiety problem. She is a typical of girl who is pretty quiet but she can be catchy at the same time (of course, she can’t be alone). This is not your typical romance book, but everything seems so natural here. It’s like having your first serious boyfriend you meet on the university with the right timing (and you played “hard-to-get” mode on) without purposes at all. just to let it flow, and enjoying your college with friends; like first time drinking, kissing, hugging someone, seeing someone naked *not really that naked or 1/2 naked*. Oh.... and about her sister, Wren, you know, she looks like a supporting character instead of main one, she’s like an intercept one. i don’t know how to say, but she reminds me that drunken girl from Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist (which also comes from a book by David Levithan), Norah’s friend? um...caroline, she just showed up everywhere! lol. this book is not really that booooring, so it’s A MUST READING, why? cuz it’s so relate to your life for a rowell’s lovers! especially for nerdy, fun, geeky girls/ boys... so enjoy!
next post, i will give you the dream casting! hehe
ps: btw im reading ELEANOR & PARK! im lovin it~another 80′s flicks..

Hello World!
after such a prolong time, i finally made another blog, about book reviews, i dont know weather i should write in english or bahasa (or mix it up yikes), which depends on my mood.. but also, i want to practice my writing, mostly on tumblr stuffs, all i do is reblogging & following (it’s like an addiction, scrolling, stuff, following thingy, everything is beautiful here), and i dont really know, that will people.. ugh, wait, im not going public about this. what im sayin that, um, do..or will people still read...like really really reading stuffs like mine? esp. my blog haha. oh well, whatever.
the reason i made this blog, because... i wanted to share my reading stuffs, and some of my friends about 2 or 3 peeps, asking for some book references, so i guess, it’s the time. now or neeeverrr....i did ask them, wait i kinda offered them, maybe... i should make an instagram acc, but my dudette friend @prosundcons said im having too much... like MANY, lol.. i cant keep my hands, and also, i dont have much datas on my phones, cloud is overwhelmed.
okey, i will send this blog to some friends of mine (only 2 who were responded, lol), the ones who asked. i dont know if they have tumblr, but they can still read it tho’ okey, anyway, please dont judge my writing stuffs, because i will write based on my reading experiences or knowledges; on this blog, i will probably post some dream fan-casting or faqs as well, cuz, hey, those books arent going to be just a book, but big screeeeeeen adaptation *whoaaaaa*
