Modibodi Period Underwear

A few months ago I was contacted by Modibodi to promote their period underwear range. Honestly I was sceptical, but was willing to give anything reusable a shot! Head to the last paragraph if you just want to read the review, or keep reading to find out why it took me months to take these photos.

I had a whole shoot planned out in my mind from the get-go, but kept making excuses because I was trying to avoid showing the few extra kgs I’d put on over winter. I actually said to myself multiple times “Once I’m more tan/my hair is longer/I’ve lost the extra weight” ONLY THEN will I get back into my “body-positive” shots - BUT HOW CAN I BE BODY POSITIVE IF IM ONLY SHOWING A “PERFECT” VERSION OF MY SELF?? The pressure I had on myself to appear perfect was insane, I had refallen into the social media trap and only wanted to post heavily edited content.

The photos took 10 minutes to shoot, apart from upping the exposure they're completely unedited (you can see my stretch marks, cellulite, the red lines from where my track pants were) and I love them.

How could I be pro-period/feminist/body positive, yet still be too ashamed of the few kgs’s I put on to take photos?

In reality I stopped giving a fuck. The barriers I’d built for myself were unnecessary, unproductive, & unhealthy.

I was so sceptical period underwear was going to work, I mean there was no way the lining in underwear would be absorbent enough for day 1 right? WRONG

I was pleasantly surprised that not only did they not. leak. once. but they GOT ME THROUGH MY HEAVIEST DAY. Even my lunette cup can’t manage that! These undies are now one of the first things I grab when I get my period (others include caramel chocolate and some old MTV’s Super Sweet 16 compilations on youtube, in case you were wondering)
