The Voltron Project

What is it? The Voltron Project is a retelling of the Voltron story following Season 6. Like many in the fandom, I was left dissatisfied with Season 7 for many reasons. The Voltron Project is a fan endeavor to give others feeling similarly the content that was lacking in Season 7. I won’t rehash the discourse here, as this is meant to be a positive move forward, and while I think a lot was learned as a result of Season 7, I want to carve out a positive place for both myself and others should they so wish to partake.

I also want to make it clear that this is not a project resulting from spite or a desire to hurt the creators of Voltron. It is simply a fan (me) retelling the story in a way that I will find more satisfying. It is for that reason that I invite everyone to be involved and to have fun with it. You’re not unwelcome if you enjoyed Season 7, but you’re definitely going to get a lot of what was missing if you didn’t. This project isn’t meant to spur hate, but to simply take Voltron in a different direction. An AU, if you will, though it takes off following Season 6 of the canon.

I’d also like to add that this is not connected to the “Reboot” or the Leakira stuff going around. This is something entirely different. I am not involved in any of that.

With that out of the way, I can actually TELL YOU ABOUT THE PROJECT!

Details: The Voltron Project will be a novel length fic taking place following Season 6 of Voltron. It will be divided up episodically, meaning that there will be 13 chapters in total. It is meant to reflect the best of what we’ve seen of Voltron, while doing away with the worst. That means focusing on the main characters and their arcs, interactions, and development, as well as keeping alive the space epic atmosphere of the show. This is not a ship-spurred project, being that the goal is that anyone who enjoys the show or any of the characters in it will also enjoy. Fanfiction is a place for people to explore the character dynamics of those they love most, which means that most fics focus solely on only a few characters. Which is great! But the goal of The Voltron Project is to bring the team dynamic of the show to the page. Each character will get their story and their spotlight, and those that have fallen on the backburner will finally get their due (yes, this means hefty arcs for both Lance and Hunk that will actually be pertinent to the story and related to the plot, though these arcs will be spread over the “Season 7” rewrite as well as the newly written “Season 8” finale book that would be written if this project is a success). That isn’t to say there won’t be ships at all (because there will be), but this isn’t a ship driven narrative.

It is a Voltron and character driven narrative.

So what does this mean? Well, I’ve outlined the story fully, so I can provide you with summaries of what would be to come. If only to get y'all interested, because it won’t be worth me writing if people aren’t interested in reading ;)

The Voltron Project: Season 7 - Summaries

Episode 1: Keith struggles to find his confidence as leader with Shiro back, leaving him to reflect on all the times Shiro was his guide growing up. Certainly it’d make more sense for Shiro to take over the team and get them through this difficult journey back to Earth? Meanwhile, Allura struggles to find her confidence and place on the team following Lotor’s betrayal. Stranded on an unknown planet, she fails to find a peaceful resolution with the local population, leaving Hunk to step forward with a new perspective and perhaps a new way of looking at Voltron’s previously tried and true methods of diplomacy.

Episode 2: Having set out on the long journey back to Earth, the paladins struggle with close-quarters as well as the fear that with their lions not fully charged, they may be unable to defend themselves should the situation turn dire. Luck is not on their side, as they encounter an invisible force that seems to enjoy toying with their insecurities. Left to soul-search their way to answers, each paladin must grapple with the fears holding them hostage in the hopes that they—and their lions—might come out stronger on the other side.

Episode 3: Discovering an old altean base from the days when Daibazaal and Altea were allies, the paladins make a pit-stop in the hopes of salvaging supplies for their trip. While Romelle and Coran indulge in Altean culture and history, Allura must face the heartbreak Lotor inflicted on her emotionally as well as how his actions shook her faith in the art of altean alchemy itself. But as Lance points out, Allura must shape her own story with her own actions, not reflect on the misguided deeds of others against her. Without her abilities, they may not escape the faulty altean base alive.

Episode 4: While the team attempts to get the archaic teleduv up and running, Lance is left to ponder his own relationships with the other paladins, as well as his many mistakes. But if there’s anyone who understands interpersonal missteps, it’s Shiro, who divulges the many regrets he’s accumulated since he’d made the decision to go to space. But the team’s ultimate goal is Olkari, as that may be as far as they can get with the questionable teleduv. Personal reflections may have to take a backseat to the bad news that awaits them. Meanwhile, Haggar and Sendak strike up an alliance.

Episode 5: Since Sam Holt’s return, the Earth has been informed of the war beyond its solar system and prepped as best as possible for an inevitable attack. But Earth’s technology is too far behind to catch up, and so the citizenry must hope for Voltron and the coalition when Galra ships appear on the horizon. Hopes that are devastated when news that Voltron was destroyed reaches Sam Holt via the Olkari. And without an altean, the coalition can’t provide aid in time. Earth is, seemingly, on its own.

Episode 6: Back on Earth, the paladins are finally reunited with their loved ones. But things aren’t the same as when they left and the paladins aren’t the same people they were on that fateful day the blue lion carried them into space. Pressures are mounting and tough decisions must be made, many of the paladins having to face their positions in ways they hadn’t considered before. Meanwhile, Shiro attempts to deal with the politics of Earth, Voltron, and the Coalition, all while trying to work around personal obstacles from before he’d left on the Kerberos Mission.

Episode 7: All the paladins need a break, so Lance invites them down to Varadero for a day out under the sun and on the water. After all, what better solution is there for stress and doubt than a relaxing day on the beach? Yet even as the team seems to be embracing Lance’s idea and having a good time, he’s eventually the one left floundering and uncertain. But none of that may matter soon. The notion of peace is fleeting and everyone knew the Galra would be back sooner rather than later. Even with Voltron and the Coalition, Earth may yet be in danger.

Episode 8: Everyone is scrambling to Earth’s defenses, which are far from being prepared for another attack. Team Voltron is tested both together and apart by the combined forces of Sendak and Haggar’s forces. With so much to defend and so little on their side, they may have no choice but to separate their priorities if only because so much has to be done and so little is possible. But Voltron is always stronger together and Haggar’s new weapon may be the strongest foe the paladins have faced yet.

Episode 9: With their focus on Haggar’s weapon, Voltron depends on the coalition and Earth’s own forces to deal with the assault. But even their faith in the strength of Voltron may not be enough. There’s tragedy waiting in Earth’s devastation. The most personally weighted and important battle the paladins have ever faced may be one that’s impossible to truly win.

Episode 10: Humanity will never be the same, nor will team Voltron. In the wake of the attack, Earth has been tested in ways never before seen, while the paladins must try and pick up the pieces of their own team. With a lion and a paladin captured and another paladin overwhelmed with grief, they must continue to push forward despite the giant fractures that threaten to crumble everything Voltron has worked so hard to achieve.

Episode 11: Having located the energy signature of the captured lion, the paladins and the coalition move in. But retrieving the missing lion—and hopefully the paladin that goes with it—will prove challenging without the ability to form Voltron, and that’s if things go as planned. But knowing the Galra, things are bound to go wrong.

Episode 12: The paladins are working on borrowed time. Infiltrating the Galra ships proves perilous. While Allura is faced with Haggar—as well as the misdeeds of Lotor and their effects—the rest of the team searches for their missing comrade. But traversing Galra ships is challenging, especially when they’ve got so much riding on such a short time allotment. That some of the team’s judgement is clouded in anger and grief does little to help the situation. In the end, the paladins are left rushing toward an end with no clear answers.

Episode 13: With one of the lions having vanished through Haggar’s wormhole, it falls to Keith to do something, as his lion is the only one capable of bending space swiftly enough to catch up. Meanwhile, Sendak awaits, having used the paladins’ weaknesses against them to the point that team Voltron may never recover if Keith, and the rest of the team, can’t find him in time.

So those are the summaries for the entirety of “Season 7.” I’ve tried to include enough to explain where the story is going while also leaving out as many spoilers as possible ;D

This is the fic I’d like to write, if enough people are interested in reading it. But a lot of my investment in it is dependent on readers’ investment in it. I’ll write with or without the help of others if enough people want to read it. And in the case that others want to be involved, I have a few propositions to be considered. Different potential “packages” of The Voltron Project, if you will:

Basic – I write the fic and upload it over the course of 13 days to AO3 for everyone to read, simple as that.

BigBang – The fic itself remains a digital interface, while artists that are interested in being involved treat it like a BigBang, as in, artists work on illustrations of each chapter like they would separate stories during a BigBang. These will be released during a thirteen day period, with appropriate credits being given. But this is only possible if at least 13 artists are interested. If there are more (which would be amazing), I would like the project to be as inclusive as possible, meaning that multiple artists would work on illustrations for one chapter, etc.

Zine – The ultimate goal, which I think is unlikely, but a dude can dream, yeah? In this case, the book will be released as a digital zine (which would be free) with options for different tiers following. For example:

Tier one: Free—get a digital copy! Awesome!

Tier two: Black and white softcover copy (text and illustrations would be in b&w) with all proceeds going to charity (what charity would be up for discussion at a later date).

Tier three: Color softcover copy! All proceeds would go to charity!

Tier four: Color hardcover copy! All proceeds would go to charity!

(This is only an example of potentially what could be done and could change later)

I also imagine that different tiers would offer different extras, like pins, bookmarks, etc… But again, this is the ultimate thing that could happen and I’m really not holding my breath for this being possible.

In any case, that is where I stand on The Voltron Project at the moment! I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say!

okay but seriously, if you’ve ever had a partner with a chronic illness or have one yourself you’d know that you shouldn’t ever threaten a relationship because they want to follow their dream. the person with the illness THEMSELVES are the most aware of all, shiro knew what he was getting into (maybe not the abduction part) and wanted to do it while he was still in his prime. adam gave him an ultimatum between that and their relationship, and basically sent shiro away alone. i don’t like adam.

Christ the people on this website are self-important.

Adam said in the episode that he wouldn’t go through this again. Shiro had already left him for space once, maybe more than that, and was going to do that again, be he sick or not. Adam breaking up with Shiro had less to do with Adam not supporting Shiro’s dreams and more to do with the fact that Adam was scared and hurt. He’d probably been with Shiro all through his previous missions and all through his illness and once again Shiro chose the mission over him.

Neither of them are bad people. Shiro wanted to keep striving for his dreams and Adam wanted him to stay safe, with him. He was afraid of losing him and no, an ultimatum probably wasn’t the best decision he could have made, but he was hurt and scared.

Y’all are so willing to jump to the defense of people who are sick, but what about the people in their lives that suffer too? Adam didn’t suffer because of Shiro’s illness, he suffered because of Shiro’s choices. As far as Adam was concerned, Shiro had already accomplished his dream. Maybe that wasn’t really the case, but if they were planning on getting married, Adam was probably focused on moving forward. With whatever little time he and Shiro had left together. Only for Shiro to go on a dangerous, potentially life-threatening mission? Adam probably loves Shiro so much and just can’t fucking win. First he knows he can’t spend his whole life with Shiro and so pushes forward anyway, only for Shiro to make a choice that could potentially end what little time they had together? Christ, yeah, I feel bad for Adam.

Just because a person is sick or pursuing their dreams, doesn’t mean they have an excuse to hurt other people. If Shiro kept leaving, sick or not, and Adam wasn’t down for that, then he had every right to break off their relationship. They wanted different things.

Yes, it was messy. Yes, it was shitty–likely on both their sides. But sometimes things are just shitty and you make shitty decisions and that’s life. It doesn’t make someone a bad person.

I’ve lived with people whose illnesses were unconsciously used as weapons to control the people around them. I know what it’s like to watch someone you love make decision after decision that unknowingly hurts you because they felt vindicated in their choices and so that made everything they did “okay.” I’ve made decisions in my life to strive for my dreams that have strained and hurt the relationships I had with other people, and I knew that was the price. I don’t blame them. Am I annoyed they can’t put aside their feelings in order to support me? Yes. But I get that when someone leaves and they’re doing something dangerous, it hurts. And that no amount of support or self-control is going to make that feel any better.

Shiro had the right to pursue his dreams and Adam had the right to disagree with it, be afraid, and even end their relationship.

He didn’t break up with Shiro because of his illness, he broke up with him because Shiro was willingly putting himself in danger and Adam didn’t want him to. He thought there was a real chance he would lose him, as did the rest of the fucking garrison. Kudos to Shiro for pushing on and Commander Holt for believing in him, but that doesn’t make it any less shitty for the people left behind.

Shiro made a choice and while that choice wasn’t wrong, it had consequences just as all choices do. One of those consequences was hurting the man he loved.

Accomplishing your dreams is all well and good when it doesn’t threaten your well-being or anyone around you, but when it does, those people being hurt have to react and deal as well. Maybe ending things with Shiro was what was healthiest for Adam’s mental well-being. Maybe he was angry and upset and said some things he didn’t mean. Maybe he’s a faulted character who was just trying desperately to keep the man he loved in his life.

Y’all are so fucking judgmental and see everything in black and white. Or refuse to see both sides of a complicated situation. The creators themselves said that Shiro and Adam had a long, beautiful relationship (who the fuck do you think was probably there through all of Shiro’s illness? Who the fuck do you think was with him when he was diagnosed?). And if Adam was really an asshole, I doubt Shiro would have stayed with him.

Odds are, Adam had been there to support Shiro in every mission he’d had before, with every complication with his illness. With everything.

How much heartbreak and debilitating concern is someone supposed to go through before they can’t take it anymore? This wasn’t a matter that Shiro had no control over. He willingly chose to put himself in danger, and be it his dream or not, Adam shouldn’t be expected to bottle up his emotions and suffer. It’d be different if Shiro had no choice, but he did, and he chose his dreams over Adam. Like, people do that every day and break up because of it. It doesn’t make either of those people “bad” people and if you think it does, your expectations of the people around you are unfair and unreasonable.

He didn’t end things because of Shiro’s illness. He ended their relationship because he was tired of being hurt and abandoned. And while I support Shiro reaching for his dreams, I also don’t blame Adam and support him in doing what he thought he had to in order to protect himself and his emotional well-being.

People need to get off their high horses and realize that most situations are more complicated than they appear and most people aren’t terrible because of one decision, especially when that decision is made out of desperation.

The culture on this website is so fucking biased and disgusting, it’s incredible.

Okay, but imagine, it was said by one of the people working on Voltron that Shiro sees a lot of himself in Lance, right?

WHAT IF Shiro was just like Lance at the beginning of his garrison days, while Adam was just like Keith. Which is why Shiro was so good at dealing with Keith–he’d already dealt with someone similar.

Adam shares similar coloring to Lance, from what we’ve seen of his character design. Whereas Shiro and Keith share similarities.

What if Klance is meant to parallel Shadam/Adashi?

Lance comes to Shiro about his insecurities and his feelings for Keith, and Shiro just smiles and says “I know exactly how you feel.”

Because Shiro sees so much of himself in Lance, and so much of Adam in Keith.

Boom.

Honestly lads?

In my books, Klance is still on track to be canon king.

And the number one factor for that Hypothesis?

“I’m just a boy from Cuba.” 🇨🇺

(With a dash of “you know, that time Lance died” (in Alluras arms)).

That’s right lads, not only did we get confirmation that Jeremy Shada was NOT pulling our collective robot legs, but we FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO HIS TIMELINE OF EVENTS! Goddamit Jeremy!! This was like a year and a half ago!? Have you no concept of time?

Anyway, that means, we still have Lance season upcoming, we still have Lance’s “unexpected love interest” coming, and all of Jeremy’s hints are still valid.

(Seriously, I would pay the fandom if we could somehow get a list of quotes and timelines for each of his spoilers hint drops. I can barely remember it all anymore).

It’s been a long time coming, but we are finally caught up with the Jeremy Spoiler Timeline! So that means? Any supposed “queerbaiting” the crew were doing was for the upcoming seasons in mind. So, let’s just watch and enjoy the them coming seasons before we pass judgment, riot or lose hope. ;)

I think what I loved most about season 6 of Voltron was how they finally acknowledged on-screen that yes, their characters are PoC. Lance aint just tan, he admitted he’s Cuban, Shiro gave his full name and he even had a slight Japanese accent. It was beautiful.

why klance is still, indeed, canon king

( K/LANTIS DON’T INTERACT )

you all know the official art lauren montgomery drew. yeah. you know the one.

^ THIS bad boy right here. there is a common pattern with the pairs. this is probably a reach but the person that is supporting/helping the other with their issue has their arm wrapped around the one being helped. in case my wording threw you off:

• allura helped pidge come out as a girl, hence the gender sign. allura has her arm around pidge.

• hunk and keith had that whole scene where they discussed keith being galra. hunk has his arm around keith.

• lastly, it is WIDELY theorized that lance is bisexual. he happens to be holding the LGBT+ sign, and shiro’s hand is on his shoulder.

it is shown that the person with the issue has both hands on the sign, and the person helpig with the issue has one arm around the one being helped. this could, in fact, be a reach, but i doubt it’s a coincidence, especially w/ the detailing of the show. don’t @ me.

this also may be a reach:

• with both hands, lance uses only two fingers to grasp onto the LGBT+ poster, which may be hinting at bi!lance.

• the others use all four fingers to grasp the sign, which is actually a lot easier when holding a damn sign. lance uses 2/4 fingers that he should be using. yet again, this is probably a reach, but it’s something i want to point out.

• shiro is incredibly self-aware, so i highly doubt that the LGBT+ issue will be around him. with all these points, i introduce to you;

bi lance.

while we all believe that the voltron writers are queerbaiting by neither confirming nor denying LGBT presence in the show (and i’m salty about the lack of a hint in s6), i believe that they will, because lance is extremely, and i mean extremely, bi-coded. i could dive into every single way that the writers bi-coded lance, but i’m a bit too tired for that, so i will bring up one thing and one thing only for that bi-coding:

lance is often seen with another boy character with the colors of the bi flag in the background. you can see all of lance’s bi-coding in Fictional Crystals’ “Is Lance Bisexual? - LGBT Rep in Voltron” video (can’t link, i’m on mobile), and that boy is usually keith.

lets talk about their dynamic.

• lance, who is a normally friendly guy and loves to make acquaintances, immediately begins a one-sided rivalry with keith, highly contradicting his personality.

• lance has been stated to have admired keith and looked up to him (shada, i believe, but i dunno the actual source)

• lance is overly flirty, a sign that he is overcompensating.

a lot of what lance does points an attraction to keith, but people think that it’s impossible for lance to be attracted to keith, because he has a crush on allura.

allur@nce is heavily hinted in season 6, i can’t lie. but that relationship won’t last even if it does set sail. it’s literally set up to fail. sorry allur@nce stans. your ship is cute, though.

both allura and lance are going to realize that lance is merely a rebound for lotor, if allur@nce is established. their development points to nothing else.

so if lance is in fact LGBT, most likely Bi, let’s review his remaining options:

• pidge has shown no romantic attraction to lance and her relationship to hunk is a lot tighter than her relationship to lance.

• we don’t know if hunk still has his relationship with shay, but i’m pretty sure he does. even if he doesn’t, hunk is way closer to pidge than he is to lance, with concrete evidence for this is s6.

• i’m not even gonna get into what kind of trouble DW could get into if they have a teenager date a full-grown 25-year-old man. don’t mistake me, no hate to sh@nce, but it’s the risk that comes with making it canon that makes me HIGHLY doubt they’ll even consider going down that road.

• they could pair lance with an outsider, but that’s highly unlikely, especially with lance’s closeness with the paladins. if they pair him with an outsider, it’ll be temporary.

• here’s our last option: keith.

now, keith and lance have a really interesting relationship. they are one of the relationships (platonic or romantic) that honestly have the most chemistry out of any other relationship in the show. the way they are developed puts a heavy emphasis on their relationship as fellow paladins. while they were enemies at first, with admittedly really funny and petty arguments, that developed into a special bond (haha) pretty quickly.

from nearly constant petty bickering to lance and keith depending on each other, their relationship honestly shows the most development out of any other relationship in the whole series.

as well as that, allura (lance’s canon love interest) and keith have endless parellels, the most obvious that i will point out:

allura literally had to act as keith for the voltron shows.

parellels are also shown with interactions between the two of them and lance. lance is explicitly bi-coded, so let’s talk about the klance relationship.

• season one:

edit: a binch forgot to add this in so. let’s add i.

lance actually recognizes keith from his mullet. he knows what the back of keith’s head looks like so well that he recognizes him immediately after? what? one year of not seeing him? and he talks about keith so much that hunk knows who he is, too. we could assume that hunk knew keith bc they were in the same class, but keith called hunk “big guy” so 🤷‍♀️

clearly we are talking about the bonding moment. we can’t not talk about the bonding moment.

so, keith goes to help lance, right? no big deal?

WRONG.

with shiro’s confirmed brotherly relationship with keith (“ shiro, you’re my brother, i love you”) you’d think that keith would go over to shiro first. even if pidge had shiro covered, keith would still wanna check up on his “brother”, which is why it’s so weird that keith goes over to lance first.

the setup: pidge and shiro are a bit blurred out, emphasizing keith and lance’s prescence. why is this scene so important?

• lance and keith, grasped hands, holding each other’s intense gazes

• purple background and lighting, which is commonly used in voltron scenes to establish romance, and has been used in inherently romantic klance scenes in following episodes

• To Go Home playing in the background

• strong gazes and soft smiles

if this was a hetero ship, there is no way in hell that it would be percieved as platonic. that shit was gay as fuck.

following day in which lance was in the cryopod-

• keith is impatient to get lance out of the pod and seems even more upset after allura says it’ll only be a few more ticks

• he is literally not willing to wait for a few ticks. ( Impatient tapping on the cryopod, “How much better do you think he’s gonna get in a few more ticks?!)

• smiles when lance gets out

• mood immediately darkens when lance flirts with allura. this is obvious by his face. there are also a handful of instances where lance has flirted with allura and keith is always shown as upset by them. hmm. suspicious.

• sits directly in front of lance, butt on table, waiting for confrontation

• how distressed does he sound when he says “We had a bonding moment! I cradled you in my arms!” (his voice literally cracks, so) and i really do not know how that specific line can be taken in a platonic manner. we also did not witness this cradling.

• Lance remembered the bonding moment was NOT READY for this development (hedrick), suggesting he was not ready to face his feelings

• speaking of the bonding moment, there are countless. times. where it has been parelleled with inherently romantic scenes ( allura rescuing lance in his own lion, krolia and texas kogane standing in front of the blue lion )

• “i think we make a great team!” lance says while cradling himself in his own arms and flirting with allura, a direct parellel to the bonding moment, suggesting “we are a good team” is a romantic line

season two doesn’t really have anything except for the elevator scene and the scene that directly follows, and both scenes show lance and keith working together extremely well with keith having lance’s back and lance having keith’s

• season three

OH BOY WHERE DO I START

here are the facts:

• keith leaving voltron left a void in lance’s heart (shada)

• lance became keith’s stability (montgomery)

these developments are shown clearly in season three, where lance has to step up to be keith’s right hand after shiro disappears. when keith loses his composure, lance is the one shown to cool him down. (fire and ice! fire and ice!)

• christ i really am messy today! i forgot to add this: “are you joking?” with that SUPER FOND smile on keith’s face. keith is teasing lance. probably because lance said that he wasn’t a goofball. i can’t even count the # of times keith has held that fond smile for lance. (“lance, i got your lion back!”)

• a different side of keith comes out around lance. if you watch the series, you will see that the majority, if not all, of the times that he has a teasing/playful attitude, it’s towards lance. (“thank you, keith. now can you come and unchain me?” “what was that? you’re cutting out, i can’t-i can’t hear you” with a damn smirk on his face/ “heh, like that?”/ “look, i’m glad we’re all makin’ fun of lance”) i can’t even dive into how gay keith is for lance. seriously. there are WAY too many instances that point to keith having a crush on lance. Fictional Crystals also made a video on keith being gay so. watch that.

• i almost forgot to add this. the talk. that goddamn talk.

• lance, without prompting, goes up to keith to comfort him despite being upset about not being chosen for the black lion. he reassures keith about taking the black lion. he genuinely tries to make keith feel better and doesn’t half ass his comforts. i’m pretty sure he didn’t even see all of the paladins turn to him.

• speaking of which, everybody turned to lance to comfort keith. lance. there were people with a stronger relationship to keith than lance, but they thought lance would be the best option. interesting.

• [gay gasp] never forget

• when keith is about to plunge them into danger, lance is the only one that manages to make him stop, even though the other paladins were yelling for him to stop, too

• when keith goes to the blue lion after the lions are separated, there are the colors of the bi flag in the background. literally. the coloring of the scenes is no accident, it’s a method to convey feelings and tone

• keith confides in lance about his insecurities, the first time we see him break down as an audience

• lance says, “we’re gonna fix it”. we, as in a team.

• lance goes to keith’s room to confide and keith recognizes that he maybe didn’t say the right thing

“leave the math to pidge”

• that shot. that shot honestly means so much. his confidence, his beauty, is portrayed in his posing. we see directly through lance’s eyes, a character’s eyes, which is very uncommon for voltron to do

• when keith leaves, you can see the literal pain in lance’s eyes. those lines under his eyes signify distress, and are used pretty often when characters are upset in any way

• lance says “yeah, who am i gonna make fun of?” in response to “we’re really gonna miss you”, in which he is indirectly saying “yeah, i’m really gonna miss you too”

then keith leaves and doesn’t come back until s6. i’m not gonna lie, this season didn’t provide a lot, but we were starving and took what we could get

• the first thing lance notices about keith is that he’s bigger. seriously.

• lance is the only one to step up to keith when keith lands and honestly? that shows so much? why is he the only one to walk up to their friend that they haven’t seen in months?

• he greets him in a friendly manner, teasing and open, and is visibly upset when keith shuts him down. if you watch his movements, you can see that lance went in for a handshake/hug and his face immediately dropped when keith just walked by him

• “hey everybody, keith’s back!” when keith responds to him

• “bigger, grizzled older brother”. christ. i can’t even describe how fucking gay this line is. i really can’t. just call him hot, lance.

• first thing lance notices about keith is how attractive he got. it’s literally canon.

• last edit: when keith turns out ok and lance and allura see him on the screen, lance has a bigger smile on his face than he’s had for seasons. He even expresses his joy, in words, for Keith being ok. y’all. 🐸☕️

• also sh@ith is dead. i don’t really dislike the ship, but after dropping that “you’re my brother, i love you” there is no way dreamworks can spin that romantically, especially since shiro canonly raised keith since he was a pre-teen. there is no way they can spin that familial bond into romance. sorry.

Lance is in the closet and even he doesn’t know.

EDIT: there was a review with Montgomery and JDS in which it is stated that lance is gonna find that special someone and settle down. it is also stated that HE IS NOT GOING TO GET WHAT HE INITIALLY WANTED (allura). if allur@nce doesn’t happen, and lance is bi, there’s literally no other option other than klance. (discussed more in the klible, which i HIGHLY recommend reading)

anyways bitches, worry not. klance is far from dead. this relationship had way to much development and was emphasized so heavily that it can’t be reversed. they gay as fuck. do not lose hope. stick together. read the klible to reassure yourselves. get through this dark time together and pray that we get more content in s7.
