"I don't wanna bother you"
Have you considered that this is how your presence feels?

Can't be sincerely dark without being called edgy, can't be sincerely emotional without being called melodramatic, can't be sincerely silly without being called stupid. They're gonna hate every emotion you put in your art no matter what so make it anyway and be as sincere as you can be

So, today I dreamed that a large box came in in the mail for me, while something big happened. I picked the box and put it on my bed and opened it and it only had a single flask of black nail polish.
It was a Supernatural special nail polish. The name of the color was "Samliel" and it had images of Sam and Castiel over it and all I could think was "Of course I ordered that, I needed controversal black nail polish"

the idea of a "consciousness" is just an agnostic term for "soul". "[non-human] animals aren't conscious" - no, they are, they're often just less social or less able to determine their exterior "self-identity". they have preferences and goals like you or i.
i'm not really knowledgeable enough to get into differences in problem-solving or thought processes, but many animals are perfectly capable. it's a gradient, not an on-off switch

This post is so, so lovely. See, I have ankles - and wrists, but mostly ankles - that look swollen and hands and feet that are small, so my extremities proportions always looked a bit off to me, and for a long time I would always read and hear "Take pictures of yourself as reference" "always look at your hands for drawing references" and go "ughhh but you don't understaaaand". I would always ref anything else so I wouldn't end up with calfs that looked like eggplants or fingers half the size of the palm in my drawings... Anatomy ended up being my worse subject for a while, and the hardest for me to learn and read about. And, now that I know it a little bit better, I don't see a lot of variety in my drawings, and end up a bit demotivated for the lack of love for humanity on it.
I want to tell a story to the artists and would-be artists out there.
When I was 19, I made a large oil painting of the nerd I would eventually marry. I poured all my attention and care into this painting. It's the only art I have from back then that still holds up as a work I'm proud of today.
I entered it into a judged show at the local art center. It got an honorable mention. I went to see the show with my beloved model. One of the judges came up to talk to me, and highlighted that all the judges really liked the painting. It would have placed, except, you see, the feet were incorrect. They were too wide and short, and if I just studied a bit more anatomy-
I called over my future wife, and asked her to take off her shoe. Being already very used to humoring me, she did. The judge looked at her very short, very wide little foot. Exactly as I'd lovingly rendered it. I would never edit her appearance in any way.
The judge looked me in the eye, and to his credit, he really looked like he meant it when he said "Oh I'm so sorry."
Anyways the moral of the story is that all of those anatomy books that teach you proportions are either showing you averages, or a very specific idea of an idealized body. Actual bodies are much more varied than that.
So don't forget to draw from observation, and remember that humans aren't mass produced mannequins. Delight in our variation. Because it's supposed to be there.

I do feel personally offended when people talk about characters who haunt the narrative and don’t mention Beatrice Baudelaire. Have we forgotten our HERstory

i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.
