very regularly at work I will, on my state-mandated ten minute rest break, go into the kitchen and make myself a cup of earl grey tea with one little sealed plastic cup of milk and two yellow packets of that weird fake sugar stuff. of course I must stir this. which means I get a little wooden stick. which means that over the course of the rest of my shift I do something like this:

do you think schools should have uniforms?

#yes and ill tell you why #i went to a school where i had to wear polo shirts up through eighth grade #and without getting into it too much i had a lot of a backseat view as to the school's founding including the 'why' of the uniform choice #and it is a really effective equalizer #class difference and just the difference between who is and isnt cool or with the trend or whose parents are willing to buy them the #cool hip clothes? all that doesnt matter when you all are wearing polo shirts #and my uniform wasnt that restrictive. polos in any shade of green #brown white black or grey #and then any neutral colored bottoms or denim #and then anything else (sweaters mostly) just had to be in one of those same colors #and no logos bigger than one square inch #and things like socks shoes accessories can be anything you want. like it was really permissive but i thibk it was really effective #like that is the perfect kind of uniform i think. really flexible but still really effective in what it does #that being: act like an equalizer to limit a lot of the obvious markers for difference in the kids #and it made my life so much easier and getting ready so much faster!!! which helps especially if you're trying to get multiple elementary #school aged kids out the house in the morning!!!#and the other reason is because when i got to high school i did not know how to dress myself AT ALL #and im saying this as a positive ok bear with me #for one thing people on here all the time complain about how kids dont have an “awkward phase” anymore #and part of that is because theyre dressing and acting like adults younger and younger #but for me and a lot of my peers who went from my elementary school to my same high school (both were charters not district)#(and remind me later to talk about schools of choice bc i think its so important)#we had to use high school as the time to discover how we wanted to represent ourselves and express ourselves #and that made it so high school was still a time for us to be KIDS and it made a huge difference #sorry i'm yapping so much but anyway. uniforms yes #harperposting #miscposting
