John Torres’ Amazing Intelligence

I wanted to do a post acknowledging just how smart and creative this man is. I know the predator franchise tends to have these hardened warriors that can punch rocks as protagonist with a few exceptions but even among those exceptions there is no one like Torres.

He is as smart as he is ingenious, but I don’t think people realize just how smart he is. This man did the following:

Figured Yatjua tech incredibly quickly while flying.

Outmaneuvered a high tech alien spaceship while piloting a WW2 bomber that was actively falling apart.

Fixed a bomber while in a high stakes chase by an alien spaceship.

Figured out how to pilot several Yatjua vehicles in less than 10 minutes.

Was able to deactivate the bomb collars and gates in the fighting pit.

I don’t think people grasp just how insane his feats are, he is without a doubt one of the smartest characters in the entire franchise, there’s almost no point of comparison. He did what has taken the military years to do in a couple of minutes, this man is a certified genius and an extraordinary pilot (if you told me this man was actually force sensitive and they were preparing a Star Wars crossover I’d believe you)

He might be on the weaker side physically compared to other protagonists but with his intelligence he more than makes up for it.

I am honestly tired of the Torres slander, as without him Ursa and Kenji would have died in the pit. Put some respect on his name.

Ursa as a Mother to Kenji and Torres

I just realized we never see the mothers of Kenji and Torres, we only see them interacting with their fathers.

And we see how Ursa loses her child in her quest for revenge and that strips her of her will to live, only truly regaining it when she begins seeing Kenji and Torres as her own.

Despite Ursa not fitting into the stereotypical mold of a mother, she is fiercely protective and loving. Fighting as hard as she did against the predator because she wanted to return to her son and save him if she still could and not hesitating to engage the King predator in a fight in order to protect Kenji and Torres, sacrificing herself without a second thought to ensure their escape.

We see two men without a mother and a mother without her child.

The scenes where she sees Anders reflected in Torres and when she tries to save Kenji from the King are everything to me.
