After Mock Exams
Hey everyone, I’m now finished with all my mock exams! I still have many project going though, which is why I’m so busy atm.
Tumblr media
I have my TOK presentation next week, and I’m very nervous. Additonally, I have a written assignment and math studies IA due before summer.
On the positive side, I got a job! I have been applying for six months now, and I’m so relieved that I finally got one! I’m starting next monday and most of my summer will probably be spent working🤑
I am so ready for summer and I hope all of you are staying strong for as long as you have left of the school year!

study less study smart
I decided to share my notes taken from this amazing 1 hour Youtube lecture by Marty Lobdell. i really liked him and his tips, i think they are super effective and cover a lot of situations! i highly recommend it!!!!! wow
but here are the tips and examples Marty mentions, so if you don’t have the time to go through the full hour, you can just scroll down. hope this helps somebody!
Break your study time in chunks with breaks
most students lose focus at 25 minutes
it’s a mistake to keep going once you do, since you won’t actually learn anything and you’ll hate every minute of it
so when you start losing focus take a 5 minute break
do something nice like talking to someone or listening to music
it’s something you practice so with time you’ll be able to work for more time without losing focus
in the end of the study session have a big reward you look forward to
Create a study area
environment highly affects the way you act. Bedrooms are for sleeping, kitchens for eating: you’ll feel sleepy in your bedroom and hungry in the kitchen. So if you have a study area, it’ll be easier to start studying and staying focused.
study in a specific room like an office or school library if you can
if you have to study in your bedroom use a specific object you only use for studying: a lamp/desk. Make it a no-distraction, away from your bed, blank walls area.
The more active the learning, the better
80% active learning 20% passive
ask yourself: is it a concept or a fact?
learning a concept: understand/grasp/know it
put it into your own words
really think about the meaning of it
relate it with something you already know
teach somebody else. Recapitulate what you’ve learned. Talk out loud even if you don’t have anyone to teach - talk alone. Or at anyone that listens.
learning a fact: memorize it
use mnemonics
Acronyms (e.g. colours of the rainbow RoyGBiv – red orange yellow green blue indigo violet)
Coined sayings - anything popular or sayings you’ve heard since you were a child.
Interacting images – work even better if they’re weird. Creative associations make you never forget specific details. (e.g. 1 gram of fat has 9 calories: picture a fat cat – each cat has 9 lives)
any time 2 things are highly similar but not the same you will get maximal interference!! USE mnemonics!! (e.g. afferent vs efferent neurons: SAME - Sensory Afferent Motor Efferent)
Be a part of  study groups
others can help you in ways you never thought before
Recognizing VS remembering
never confuse the two
while reviewing a chapter you may recognize concepts but not actually know them
and when you get to the test you won’t be able to remember any of it
so quiz yourself without looking at it
or stop in a page of your notes/textbook and ask yourself what is the concept immediately after and before it
Get your REM Sleep
get ~8 hours so you don’t undo your studying
this is how your brain stores permanent memories
without it you’re ability to remember seriously decreases
most people don’t even begin to take the advice but it’s simple: sleep better. Do better.
There’s 162 hours in a week. There is time.
reflect on what you are doing with your time and what activities you have to prioritize to succed as a student
Taking notes is vital.
right after the class take 5 minutes to expand everything you’ve jotted down, give it depth.
NOT hours later. You won’t remember half the things you wrote down.
Ask your questions to class mates and teachers.
teachers want you to succeed and it’s more than ok to ask your question in the teacher’s office or in the next class
How to use a textbook: SQ3R technique
Survey Question Read Recite Review
Survey: skim through the entire chapter in a couple of minutes.
Raise questions: e.g. what is osmosis? What is this graphic about? What is a prototype?
it causes you to look for answers and you’ll find the information better once you actually study it after. If you intend to find something you learn it better.
Start studying for tests early.
don’t undo yourself. You should only be reviewing the days before the test. don’t leave it till the last minute!
(don’t just scroll through this!!!! really think about these methods and how you can actually implement them so you can benefit from them!!! these actually work but only if you put them into practice boo good luck!)

Mock exams revision schedule
Finally done! Here is the mock exam revision schedule I’ve been writing about. It is very personalized, so I doubt that you guys could use this exact one, but I hope that it maybe will motivate you to make one of your own!
Tumblr media
I have some time today to work on my Maths IA, so that’s what I’m doing now. After that, I will start revising on ‘’The scramble for Africa’’ for history:))
I feel like I have been very good at prioritizing school above anything else lately, and I hope I can keep this up until summer, at least.
I wish, for all of you, a great weekend!!

A quick update
Ok so, my post yesterday was not very good and I want to give you a better explanation as to why I post so little nowadays and what I have to do at school, and generally just tell you guys more about my everyday.
I’m heading towards the end of my first year as an IBDP-student, and I am exhausted. I have so much on my mind, and so little time.
These are the things I need to get done with before summer break (21st of June):
- Mathematical Studies IA, 1st draft is to be handed in on the 16th of May and I have barely started because I am struggling with my investigation
- TOK presentation. It has to be ready in two weeks. I feel like I have good control over this task, I’m just extremely nervous about it.
- Mock exams! I have a mock exam in each subject, starting on the 31st of May and ending on the 6th of June.
- History essay (small task, just difficult and annoying)
- G4 project
- CAS reflections! Oh God. I hate them so much!!!
- Written assignment in Norwegian.
In addition to all this, we are soon starting our science IAs, and I have no idea what to do. I also have to do my CAS activities, and at the top I have a lot of plans outside of school. ALSO, I am applying for jobs and am stressed about money.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of why I’m gone. But as I said yesterday, I am working on a revision-schedule for my mock exams which I will post as soon as it’s done! Hopefully by friday
I hope you all have a great day!

Lazy
Tumblr media
Hi everyone, I am so sorry for being so much offline and not updating. I am just very stressed and have a lot to do until the middle of June. Luckily, I have found a way to use this to my (and your) benefit.
I am going to make a study-schedule and upload it a soon as I am finished. Hopefully, this can motivate some of you to make one yourself in order to manage time better😄😄
Again, I am very sorry for not posting, and promise that after this stressful period, I will be updating more often.

Just completed and submitted the final version of my Extended Essay !!! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
So I compiled lists of words that I found super super useful in making it easier for me to finish any essay !! Here is a masterpost of some sort with transition words + key vocabs grouped together for easy access as well as an IB IOC ‘cheat sheet’ I used for my english LAL orals last year (though most commentaries follow a similar structure so its generalisable) ~
Good luck with your essays !!!
… oops just realised I forgot to bullet point one of the lists

reasons my generation is so depressed:
sleep deprivation due to early school start times
the economy
oppression
high tensions between different political/social/racial/etc groups
technology/social media means constant updates on bad news
politics, made worse by the aforementioned constant updates
the state of the environment
education as it is right now not preparing us sufficiently for the outside world
pressure to grow up very quickly
parenting/teaching/etc trends in the previous generation(s)
competitiveness in schools, social media and other aspects of life
the world in general that the last few generations have constructed for us
NOT reasons my generation is so depressed:
we’re weak and lazy and we can’t get off our phones uwu

Struggling with productivity
Hi guys! Lately I’ve found myself really struggling with being productive and getting things done, which is bad for both me and my schoolwork. Luckily, there’s some tricks that I’ve learned which do help me overcome my procrastination, and I want to share them with you:)
1. Create a study space
Sometimes, I get so sick of just sitting by my desk and I can’t do anything because I’m uncormfortable. What I like to do is to remove one of my mattresses from my bed (i have a thin one over my ‘’main’’ mattress) and lay it somewhere in my bedroom. I turn my pillows and duvet into support for my back. It really helps creating a new space designated just for studying when I get sick of my desk-area.
2. Take a shower and put on some comfortable clothes
If I feel gross and icky, I cannot concentrate on doing my schoolwork. I don’t know why this is, but it helps me so much to take a shower and put on comfortable clothes afterwards. It is much easier to do your work after a good shower, than to try to do your work while all you can think about is how gross you feel.
3. Create a schedule
My planner is my lifesaver. Writing down the things you need to get done is so much easier than to try to remember it all in your head. What I like to do before a test, is to create a schedule for when and what I have to study. For example, you can set off two hours for working on a subject, and then elaborate on exactly what topics within that subjects you need to revise on.
4. Lock yourself in and turn of the internet on your phone
Personally, if I want to deeply concentrate, I need to isolate myself from other people. I turn the internet off on my cellphone (I still need to use my cellphone,) and tell my family that I need to be alone and focus. I also like to close the curtains so that I feel kind of ‘’removed’’ from everything else.
5. Set a timer for studying
If I struggle with studying for longer period, I like to study in portions. I recommend using an app called ‘’Flowtimer’’ which has helped me so much with concentrating. It gives you 25 minutes (adjustable) to study, and then a five-minute break. After you’ve studied 25 minutes four times, it gives you a 25-minutes break. This app is amazing and I recommend it for anyone whos having trouble focusing!!
I hope some of these tips will work for you too :) Good luck studying everyone!

recover from ‘burnout’ in five steps
1. reward yourself for working so hard. take a long bath with your favourite bath bomb, take time to cook your favourite meal, paint your nails. recognise that you worked hard and it was tough and that you deserve time for yourself
2. catch up on sleep. nothing makes studying harder than being exhausted. clear your schedule and have a lie in. even if you don’t sleep late, stay in bed and enjoy a guilt-free lazy morning
3. do something fun. invite your friends over for a movie night, take your dog for a walk. remind yourself that there is more to life than textbooks and notes
4. make a plan. start getting ready to get back into study mode. make a todo list, a study schedule, and a list of your deadlines
5. organise your space. declutter your desk so you have a clean space to be productive in. tidy desk, tidy mind
start again.
