Question:

Hi guys, I was wondering if you could help me with something. xD It’s very tedious and time consuming but I’ll write a fic for whoever accomplishes it for me first.

So here’s my problem:

I can’t find a post I made for a Baekhyun series on this blog. It was called “Canvas,” but I never started posting for it. I’ve already checked my archive and tags but maybe I just missed it?

I’m sorry for being so slow!! I haven’t been working on it, to be frank, but I will try to write the next chapter before I go to sleep tonight. :’)

Things thankfully went a little more smoothly since the incident, well enough that you knew Baekhyun had confidence in you being present during his meeting with the other leaders of the country.

It was labelled a party, however not by the human’s definition. A party, in the minds of beasts, meant a gathering of human sacrifices as a peace offering. As much as the concept unnerved you, it worried you even more how Baekhyun had no other preparation of life accompanying him but you.

He couldn’t possibly be sacrificing you, could he?

“Permission to speak, Sir?” You hear yourself saying. Your master’s head turns away from the carriage window, where only thin trees could be seen, as you were passing through a forest to the meeting place. Those hazel eyes bore into yours for a brief moment, before you remembered to humble yourself and look away.

“Permission granted.”

“What exactly is the meaning of this party? I believed it was annual, but this is the second time--”

“It’s not of your concern,” he cuts you off, then looks back to the view. You nod your head, despite wishing he’d given you a better reply. You shouldn’t have expected much. Because of your lowered gaze, however, you miss the glance he spares in your direction, which witnesses your recluse reaction. “Do you know I am obligated to bring a human sacrifice?”

Calmly, you respond, “yes, Sir.”

“And, do you know,” he begins, and something in the way he speaks has your eyes trailing up to his face. Keeping them at his lips, you watch him say, “I have never brought one?”

Your eyes dart to his.

They were warm somehow, even though his lips remained parted and his heart didn’t give a single beat. It was in moments like this, which happened every so sparingly, that you wondered if Baekhyun was truly a monster.

“Oh, you brought something this time?” Chanyeol, the leader of wolves, eyes you like a piece of meat. Not in a sexual, but in a hungry way. It scared you, but you knew you had to keep your heart rate in check, especially in front of so many powerful guests. You remained as close to Baekhyun’s side as it was safe to.

Your master’s hand extends toward you in showing, “no, this is my head maid at the moment. I hope you don’t mind her presence, as it deeply comforts me.” Chanyeol gives a disappointed sniff in your direction, before shaking hands with Baekhyun and entering the estate with him, you following close behind.

It was horrible. Even if Baekhyun didn’t bring you to throw away, he did nothing as the other humans were gathered in the center hall and burned. It was one thing watching someone you knew get their head knocked off, and another watching groups of people screaming for help as they slowly died in pain.

This display scared you as did many other things at the party. The leaders were calm, even amused as they spectated, making comments on the worst details. “Look, her ear is gone, haha,” Chanyeol had guffawed. Everyone was paying attention to the fire, so you knew you were safe when you fearfully looked away.

Baekhyun says, “listen to them cry for mercy.”

“...I can’t tell if you’re sympathizing with the scum or admiring them,” Chanyeol murmurs.

Neither could you.

The rest of the party went by in a blur. Your eyes felt watery and scarred, and there was never a moment you could relax, as your heart threatened to betray your rule of staying under a hundred and ten beats a minute. There were moments you think it went over, but Baekhyun didn’t react at all and you weren’t paying attention to the other vampire leaders in the room.

Once it was finally done, and Baekhyun had finished being extra polite-- by bidding every single beast farewell-- you ambled back to your carriage with him, which was engine-run and driven by a force higher than your understanding.

Even in the seclusion of the ride and the distance of the party, you still had flashes of what you saw in the flames. It could be your imagination, but you wondered if they were screaming why you were the only one not being punished.

As that image flashed across your mind, Baekhyun rested his forehead in his hand. “Sir,” you snap from your thoughts, “are you alright?” The last thing you’re comfortable seeing is your master expressing human distress. Do vampires even get headaches? Was he worried? Was this a habit he carried after his human death?

“You,” he breathes, “what do you think you’re doing?”

“I-I’m sorry, Sir?” You ask in bewilderment as you stood and approached him, “am I doing something wrong?”

In a mere two seconds, his hand jumps out and grabs your shoulder, pushing you back into your seat and digging your back into the wall of the carriage. “Ah!” Pain spread throughout your rib cage and neck, but you were petrified, so you kept still under his fierce eye.

“I asked what you think you’re doing, do you find my torture funny? Is this your way of exacting revenge for bringing you?” Like before, his fingers dug into your skin, and like before, you said nothing of it. However this time, you were already looking at his eyes, and they were chilling your core. You felt that these were your last moments to live. “Maybe you’re unaware, but I can hear every single beat that your puny human heart gives, and when you are endlessly freaking out for hours it drives me mad!”

He pulls his hands off of you, leaving you be, but he stays standing there, waiting for your reaction. Vampires didn’t need air to breathe, and yet he was releasing heavy exhales, as if he did. Perhaps it was another human habit his bodied remembered whenever he was worked up. When you thought of him that way, the cold look no longer filled you with fear, but made you think he may just be frustrated.

“If you value your life,” he says when you say nothing, “then find a way to slow down that obnoxious racing,” he sits down in his previous spot slowly, mirroring the pose he was in and covering his face, “it’s infuriatingly tempting for me.”
