It's quiet in the apartment you share with your boyfriend, the sky darkening outside your open balcony door. A gentle breeze cools the space, the hot summer temperatures starting to finally give as August makes its arrival. You move across the room silently in socked feet, wearing one of Clark's old shirts and some shorts, and make your way to where the man himself types away at the desk, focusing on an article that's due to hit the press the next day.

You're not sure what it is, but tonight you just feel… lonely. Those feelings are few and far between these days — because you finally know you aren't alone — but every once in a while, it still rises to the surface and darkens your mood. It's definitely nothing Clark has done, and you feel a little guilty for feeling this way to begin with because he's so wonderful. Even now, you know he's going to oblige what you're about to ask him without hesitation. 

Approaching him from behind, you wrap your arms around his shoulders and gently lean your head against his, your eyes coming to rest on the open word document he has up on the computer screen.

"Hi, baby," He greets you, voice warm if not a little distracted. "What's up?"

You hum, turning your head the slightest bit and gently taking in his scent. "Nothing. Just a little meh."

That's all it takes. His hands are off the keyboard and he's gently tugging you so you're in his line of sight. He studies your face, trying to read you. You feel bad for pulling him away from his work — you know that article is due in the morning. 

"I'm fine." You say before he can question you, and give him a small reassuring smile. "I promise. I just….can I sit on your lap while you work? Or would that be too distracting?"

You've come a long way, but you still second guess yourself when you ask for affection from him, having had it used against you in the past. You're finally learning that you deserve affection, and Clark is very generous with it. So you aren't surprised when he gives you a soft smile and slides away from the desk, allowing you to throw your leg over his thighs and straddle him on the desk chair. Once again, your arms wrap around his neck as your body melts against him. He gives you a kiss before you settle your head on his shoulder, already feeling the storm clouds retreating. 

"Comfy?" He asks, voice vibrating against your chest. A content sigh leaves your lips, your eyes slipping shut. You fit so nicely against him — the perfect size to be held like this and feel so safe and protected. Maybe a small part of you feels a little childish, but you've never had this before and Clark's taught you that you deserve it.

"Mhm," You say softly, mindful of his superhearing and your proximity. "Thank you."

He turns his head and kisses your cheek, and then you can hear his fingers on the keys again, flying probably nearly as fast as his brain. You fall into silence then, not wanting to distract him from his work again. It doesn't take long for you to feel sleepy, being held like this and lulled by the sound of typing. Vaguely, you can feel him chuckle and know that he senses you drifting off.

"Love you, sunshine." You hear him whisper as you fall asleep, as gentle as the breeze.
