#Repost @nasachandraxray with @get_repost ・・・ News: Dark energy may be getting stronger with time! If confirmed, it could mean that we need to re-examine our basic understanding of the history & structure of the Universe! A new study using data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and ESA’s XMM-Newton suggests that dark energy may have varied over cosmic time. This artist's illustration helps explain how astronomers tracked the effects of dark energy to about one billion years after the Big Bang by determining the distances to quasars, rapidly growing black holes that shine extremely brightly. Discovered about 20 years ago by measuring the distances to exploded stars called supernovas, dark energy is a proposed type of force, or energy, that permeates all space and causes the expansion of the Universe to accelerate. Using this method, scientists tracked the effects of dark energy out to about 9 billion years ago. The latest result stems from the development of a new method to determine distances to about 1,598 quasars, which allows the researchers to measure dark energy's effects from the early Universe through to the present day. Two of the most distant quasars studied are shown in Chandra images in the insets. The new technique uses ultraviolet (UV) and X-ray data to estimate quasar distances. In quasars, a disk of matter around the supermassive black hole in the center of a galaxy produces UV light (illustrated in blue). Some of the UV photons collide with electrons in a cloud of hot gas (shown in yellow) above and below the disk. These collisions can boost the energy of the UV light up to X-ray energies. This interaction causes a correlation between the amounts of observed UV and X-ray radiation. This correlation depends on the luminosity of the quasar, which is the amount of radiation it produces. Using this technique the quasars become standard candles, as implied by the illustration, showing quasars with the same luminosity at different distances from Earth. Once the luminosity is known, the distance to the quasars can be calculated. This is because the observed amount of radiation from quasars converted into standard candles depend on their distanc https://www.instagram.com/p/BtP3uF4A1a5/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1uxd8yg3inj5u

#Repost @thehubblescope with @get_repost ・・・ Comet 67P from Spacecraft Rosetta . ”Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” . Spacecraft Rosetta continues to circle and map Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Crossing the inner Solar System for ten years to reach the vicinity of the comet in 2014, the robotic spacecraft continues to image the unusual double-lobed comet nucleus. The featured image, taken one year ago, shows dust and gas escaping from the comet's nucleus. Although appearing bright here, the comet's surface reflects only about four percent of impinging visible light, making it as dark as coal. Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko spans about four kilometers in length and has a surface gravity so low that an astronaut could jump off of it. With Rosetta in tow, Comet 67P passed its closest to the Sun last year and is now headed back to the furthest point -- just past the orbit of Jupiter. © APOD (NASA) . #amazing #astronomy #bible #bibletext #nasabeyond #constellation #creation #galaxy #hubble #hubbletelescope #interstellar #nature #nasa #cosmos #hubblehangout #space #universe #scripture #naturelovers #cosmology #science #hst https://www.instagram.com/p/BqSLnT6AFaV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3tl8mb29vm3

#Repost @thehubblescope with @get_repost ・・・ Massive Stars in NGC 6357 . ”From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?” . Massive stars lie within NGC 6357, an expansive emission nebula complex some 6,500 light-years away toward the tail of the constellation Scorpius. In fact, positioned near center in this ground-based close-up of NGC 6357, star cluster Pismis 24 includes some of the most massive stars known in the galaxy, stars with nearly 100 times the mass of the Sun. The nebula's bright central region also contains dusty pillars of molecular gas, likely hiding massive protostars from the prying eyes of optical instruments. Intricate shapes in the nebula are carved as interstellar winds and energetic radiation from the young and newly forming massive stars clear out the natal gas and dust and power the nebular glow. Enhancing the nebula's cavernous appearance, narrowband image data was included in this composite color image in a Hubble palette scheme. Emission from sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms is shown in red green and blue hues. The alluring telescopic view spans about 50 light-years at the estimated distance of NGC 6357. © APOD (NASA) . #amazing #astronomy #bible #bibletext #nasabeyond #constellation #creation #galaxy #hubble #hubbletelescope #interstellar #nature #nasa #cosmos #hubblehangout #space #universe #scripture #naturelovers #cosmology #science #hst https://www.instagram.com/p/BqSLhUAgtmW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=o8qzx0inr01

On the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month, the Guns of August Fell Silent In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. — Lt.-Col. #Repost @thehubblescope with @get_repost ・・・ NGC 1333: Stellar Nursery in Perseus . ”And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.” . NGC 1333 is seen in visible light as a reflection nebula, dominated by bluish hues characteristic of starlight reflected by interstellar dust. A mere 1,000 light-years distant toward the heroic constellation Perseus, it lies at the edge of a large, star-forming molecular cloud. This striking close-up spans about two full moons on the sky or just over 15 light-years at the estimated distance of NGC 1333. It shows details of the dusty region along with hints of contrasting red emission from Herbig-Haro objects, jets and shocked glowing gas emanating from recently formed stars. In fact, NGC 1333 contains hundreds of stars less than a million years old, most still hidden from optical telescopes by the pervasive stardust. The chaotic environment may be similar to one in which our own Sun formed over 4.5 billion years ago. © APOD (NASA) . #amazing #astronomy #bible #bibletext #nasabeyond #constellation #creation #galaxy #hubble #hubbletelescope #interstellar #nature #nasa #cosmos #hubblehangout #space #universe #scripture #naturelovers #cosmology #science #hst https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp9muDDg5Jg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1heg6inbt2uyc
