“Thanks for all the Races, `Dillo Hills 2.”

On June 4th, 2013; I was one of the many players that rolled across the hills in this amazing racing game—‘Dillo Hills 2: Roid Racing. I used to play as a tiger named “Miles,” (the one you see in this picture) and I had a grand ‘ole time with it.

This game was a sequel to its original single-player game, `Dillo Hills, made by the same developer; Fex Labs. It was kind of like Mario Kart, with randomized items to hit and trip many racers with and various characters you could play as; but it differs from Mario Kart in the gameplay and controls, you could use the arrow keys or the WASD keys to play. From bouncing off mushrooms and tumbleweeds to swimming under icebergs and riding through caverns with gemstones, this game has so much personality in its design and mechanics that I wish I’d had more time to enjoy. 

In this game, you play as any of the animal characters that you could unlock from card packs and customize with cool accessories to make or break your racing experience. You could also buy characters, items, or even special effects to add more fun for the game as you fly across several different worlds in multiple laps.

There were also monthly tournament events that you could participate in and win achievements for finishing in 1st place. I certainly remember winning that achievement during the last time I played—and I’d been trying for a few years! A lot of the achievements were pretty fun video game references and I certainly enjoyed seeing them as I played.

Sadly, this game is now gone forever—mainly due to the people that the developer was working being the worst kind of people to ever entrust your work with (i.e: greedy jerkwads who tried to exploit the dev out of their work of art.) and Adobe Flash being killed off—so now it’s basically a thing of the past, and the only way you would know about this game is if you actually played it.

It’s been 12 years since it came into my life, and I still miss it dearly; but I know that it’s unlikely that this game will ever come back. So I’m dedicating this piece to honor this amazing game and the memories I made in the relatively small time I spent with it. You can learn a little more about the game from this little wiki!

Thank you, Fex Labs, for making this beautiful game, and to anyone who ever played this game—know that you are not alone in recognizing this game as a grand masterpiece.

There is an election Monday, April 28th. That’s tomorrow. You need to vote.

If you received a voter card, it will have your poll location on it. If you didn't, you can find the location HERE (français). Elections Canada does not call voters - if someone called or texted you to say the time or location has changed, that’s fraud. Check the website for accurate information.

In order to vote you need EITHER a driver’s license or provincial ID card, OR two pieces of ID, one of which has your current address. A letter from your University or residence counts. (Proof of address is more important than proof of citizenship.) The full list of ID accepted is HERE (français).

If you didn’t receive a voter information card, you may not be registered to vote. But that’s okay!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE TO VOTE IN CANADA.

You can register at the poll station on Election Day. It’s not hard and it doesn’t take very long, and you don’t need extra ID.

Voting is quick and usually simple. Polling hours depend on your province (français), but all polls will be open until at least 7:00 pm, usually later. (Note that in the Eastern Time Zone polls open late, at 9:30 am.) Your employer is required to give you time off to vote (français) if you need it.

Information for voters with disabilities is HERE (français). If you have feedback on accessibility or other issues, there will be forms you can fill out at your polling station.

If you got a mail-in ballot and you have not sent it yet, you can drop it off in person at your local Elections Canada office (français) or the address on the envelope, anytime before the polls close.

RTVS PALESTINE FUNDRAISER 2, April 11th - 13th

Beginning Friday the 11th, RTVS will be holding another 3-day weekend fundraising event for the people of Palestine.

It is a tragedy that Palestine is still enduring the same nightmarish conditions that they were this time last year. There has been little to no improvement in things as Israel continues to break ceasefires and block incoming aid as they try and continue their genocide. We would like to once again rally our community and as many others as we can reach to give what support we are able to to Palestine's people.

Like last year, the event will not be a traditional stream fundraiser, rather than pointing people at one donation point, we will be suggesting a number of different recipients for support. However, this year may be organized slightly differently than the way we did it last time; more information regarding that will be shared in the next few days once we confirm our plan. Overall, it's the same idea: all donations to Palestinians and aid groups will be tallied into our grand total for the event.

The all-day, all-weekend streaming event will once again feature a rotation of hosts from Radio TV Solutions putting on all kinds of events. And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…

Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.

He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.

TLDR; yes, signature matching is an antiquated way to verify ballots but it is still being used. Reportedly thousands of ballots here need to be cured. Answer the phone!
