Alright, if someone doesn’t tell me how to draw a human nose in my style-

Hi Meg! I can call you Meg, right? If anything, I am writing through a translator, and there may be spelling or speech errors in the text, so I apologize in advance. I really like your fanfic, and I would like to get at least a hint on how the work on the next chapter is going. Of course, if you don't mind sharing it. If you don't, you can ignore my message 😅

Ah, my fic. I should probably give an progress update for that.

Of course I don't mind answering, but I unfortunately have very little to update y'all on. I'm in a writing drought, have been since last year, so I've been struggling to write as a whole, let alone on something like my fic, which I tend to be picky about since I want to put out my best work for everyone.

I want to make the chapter the best I can give, but I also gave myself a bit of a hard time in the layout of the next chapter since it's not exactly like the others, so I worked myself into a bit of a corner. Paired with my tendency to get a little wordy, the chapter's length is a bit... much. I'm in the process of cutting the parts I have written down while also finishing the first draft, so all of it is very much in the air (and already the length of the longest posted chapter at not even half its completion).

If I had anything I was certain was going to be in the finished product, I would leave a little spoiler snippet here, but I really can't show anything without it likely being scrapped in a later draft.

I am so, so sorry that it's taking so long, but appreciate your kindness and thank anyone who's still patiently waiting for an update. Even in all the bad news here, I can promise that I have not given up and the fic is still ongoing. I have no plans on dropping it, it's just taking me a while.

Realized it's been exactly a year (nearly to the date actually) since my last screenshot redraw and I was getting bored with my art, so I figured, eh, why not? and here we are.

I didn't redraw the background cause I couldn't be bothered (i.e. I'm too lazy right now) but the rest is what I drew.

Disaster Twins 2025 🐢🐢

My boys! They look so vastly different in just two and a half years!

I loved doing this redraw, not only for experiencing first hand my newer process and how I've grown, but also being able to look at both finished versions side by side and having visible proof of the evolution of my art. It really goes to show that, while progress isn't always immediate and or linear, time and practice really does equal improvement in the end.

First thing's first, looking at my old art I feel like those poses were the extent of my skill at the time, a real challenge that I set for myself, Leo in particular. I still appreciate them, especially for the first attempt I ever made at drawing any or the turtles, so going into the new one, I really wanted to emulate that same dynamic: Leo crouched down, supporting Donnie's elbow. But I didn't want it to feel as static.

In the new one, I wanted to be more lean in Donnie's pose, as if he's really putting his weight on Leo. Leo himself stayed relatively the same pose-wise, but I felt there was a way to push the pair of them to make it more dynamic. Hence, the perspective.

The second thing I wanted to tackle was the energy of the image. In the old one, I feel it gives more fun, pop-of-color vibes. It's energy was from me trying to take on the Rise style, of attempting to take on the vibrancy of the show and translate it to my art.

Now that I've had a few years to test what works best for me, I feel as though I've improved at balancing the color palettes a bit. I've always favored more muted tones, but always fought the Rise style to find the right give and take, but over time I found a happy medium that tends to lean toward those more muted tones for the body while still adding that pop of color, usually in the eyes or a source of light.

Rim lighting might just be part of my style at this point.

And lastly, I'd like to be able to compliment the original background, but it didn't work for the poses and colors I had going on on Donnie and Leo. The idea was to have a TMNT spray painted on a wall, but since the bodies covered most of the work, it was difficult to tell what was going on.

On the new one, I really leaned into the drama of the scene. They're ready to fight, they're moving, and they're a threat. I didn't want the background to fight with the characters this time around, so starting with the dark, monotone slate helped me smooth out the rest of the ambience before attempting the mystics on Donnie's bo, Leo's portal and what ended up being the wind. And finally the text. I intentionally kept it hard to notice, a small detail that added a bit more texture without distracting and also taking some of the blues and purples throughout the drawing. That last detail, the boy's names, was what I used to mimic the original background.

This ramble turned out a lot longer than I intended, feels like I should end it with "in conclusion" XD

Overall, I'm really happy with how this went and how I've grown since I started drawing tmnt art. Thanks for sticking around to listen to me chatter endlessly, please let me know if this is something you'd wanna read more of in the future!

A cough forces its way out of his mouth making his body convulsion as pain radiates across his body. Runt’s glare doesn't waver as the Shredder's red eyes seem to mock him.

Runt bites back a whimper as his body shifts from where he’s impaled. Claws scratching along Shredder's armor all the while blood drips down to the floor, staining the already tainting floor.

The armour.

Mistress needs the armour and Runt needs to give it to her. He claws harder at the armoured arm. His feet are trying to get a footing but all it does is just scrap and slip off the smooth arm, but that’s when he hears a deep chuckle from in front of him.

He looks at those eyes again. “This is the best you can do?” Shredder’s voice is deep and gravelly and it strikes something inside of Runt. Something deeply rooted into his core that chills him to the bone.

You can’t escape my little pest.

Runts hands tighten.

“Karai was protecting worthless things, she died a meaningless death.” Shredder growls and Runt feels himself growl cold as his grip starts to loosen.

“I don’t have time for measly runts like you” his eyes widen and he hears his name being shouted from somewhere behind him but he’s being thrown across the platform before he knows it. His breath leaves him and all he can see when he looks up is specks of orange, red and purple shimmering above him.

His world grows dark but he makes sure to never break eye contact with the colours as they bring him a warmth he didn’t expect. They grow brighter as his world grows colder.

Sparks of blue is the last thing he sees before the abyss takes him.
