CREATE A WELCOME VIDEO
Creating a Welcome Video for students is a fun and creative way to show them who you are and what you do as an Advisor. In the video, you can review important policies and procedures, highlight interesting facts about a program or college, and insert some personalized information about yourself to help build rapport. Below is a Welcome Video that I created. I provide a link to this video in my initial Welcome E-mail to students.

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!
My name is Melissa and I am an Academic Advisor at the University of Arizona! Here, you will find resources that I have tailored for Academic Advisors who work with online students. With online education and emerging technologies on the rise, old fashioned face-to-face advising sessions have become a thing of the past for many online learners. As an Academic Advisor, I find that the majority of my students prefer to communicate through e-mail via their smartphones. There has to be a better way! This blog space was created to help answer the question: How can Advisors leverage technology to build meaningful and lasting connections with online and distance learners?
My hope is to help Advisors like myself utilize tech tools to establish better connections that improve the online student experience and raise student retention rates.
