for the past few years, I've been gradually working on a Greek mythology inspired webcomic series called Prism, but never fully explained the actual plot anywhere, so here!

SYNOPSIS

“Prism”, taking place in 2018, follows ten highschool students in suburban Detroit who turn out to be demigods— specifically, the children of Greek gods. They also happen to be reincarnated mortals who were present during the events of the Trojan War (but, of course, they don’t know that)!

"Decem Deka"

The primary happenings of their past lives can be considered retellings of Homer's Iliad & Odyssey through the lenses of Decem Deka. Some of them have been around a bit longer than the others, but the Trojan War is the main event in which everyone's past lives connect.

Spoiler alert: Literally nothing changes. It's tragic as ever I fear, I merely took it upon myself to add more heartache 🤭

In these past lives, DCDK were born fully mortal, but with a little more NEXUS (see POWER SYSTEM section) than the average mortal for the time period, each of them having possessed a trait that favored a specific god; this in turn drew said god to the child, thus resulting in said god becoming the mortal’s patron. Each child eventually ended up with one half of a god’s prism (see POWER SYSTEM section) inside of them, which lengthened their lifespans and turned them into something between a god and a mortal as a gift of sorts. Not exactly a demigod, but close enough, right?

“K.T. vs MINERVA, her past life.”

Prism's main character is Katelynn "K.T.” Arclight, 16-year-old daughter of Athena. The story is mostly in her point of view, but it's just as much DCDK’s story as it is K.T.'s.

NOTE: Kate's "birth" mimicked Athena's; therefore, the goddess remains a maiden.

SYNOPSIS (2)

There was a prophecy foretold by the Oracle that the gods were set on preventing, one that predicted the fall of Olympus as we know it. Each god made a mutual decision not to directly involve themselves with mortals anymore, assuming that would be enough. That way, they’d get to keep their prisms intact, thus maintaining their full power, and they'd be able to strike down whoever dared to defy them with no external forces in the picture.

Simple enough, right?

As we all know, tryna play with the Fates is crazy. DCDK were inevitably born (with half of their godly parent's prism imbedded in them as a result), and their all-powerful parents attempted to keep them a secret. That worked for a couple years, until the house made for them by Hestia became oversaturated with NEXUS, alerting Zeus to the big no-no that is Decem Deka. Thanks to his favoritism towards Athena, the children were spared, but half of them were required to be sent away back to their previous homes & get their memories wiped in order to keep their NEXUS at bay. On top of this, Zeus punished the other gods to 100 years of mortal labor in what is, in his opinion, the worst city in the U.S.— Detroit, MI.

Years later, DCDK are pretty much inclined to eventually save the gods' asses from the threat of 'Requiem Titanum', an organization comprised of a gaggle of minor gods, second generation Titans, nymphs, and revived beings set on taking over Olympus in the name of the fallen first generation of Titans.

POWER SYSTEM

nexus (noun): a connection or link between things, persons, or events especially that is or is part of a chain of causation.

Only the 12 Olympians (+ Hades) have prisms, which are imbedded within their bodies. There are 13 official prisms in total. The minor deities store all their power [NEXUS] within themselves since they have considerably less power than the Olympian pantheon. Half of those prisms end up in their children when they’re born in their present lives.

The concept of prisms was created by Iris shortly after the Gigantomachy, though she doesn't have one herself due to being considered a minor goddess.

Iris plays a larger part in the story later on because of this fact.

Each Olympian currently only has one half of their prism on them; The exceptions are Zeus, Hera, and Dionysus.

Hestia refused the prism offer. As a result of this, she is canonically the strongest Olympian aside from Zeus.

Prisms, when in mortals, can lengthen lifespans, boost NEXUS, and provide said mortals with god-like abilities & powers. Though not impervious to death, some may naïvely believe they are.

These effects are ironically not as potent in the Decem demigods even though they were born with the prisms inside of them, only truly serving as symbolism and a special key to unlocked potential.

NEXUS is aura, to say the least. It’s a power source that gods, demigods, humans [more specifically descendents of demigods/heroes], and monsters alike manifest from within. The stronger your mental fortitude, the greater your NEXUS potential. Naturally works better when one is barefoot.

NEXUS wielders have the ability to unionize with others as well. Think of it like...a Fairy Tail unison raid. Kinda.

Those with prisms (or, in Decem's case, half a prism) inherently get a boost in their NEXUS abilities. They're pretty strong.

The amount of NEXUS a person has determines how well they can see anything NEXUS related. Ex. Monsters, powers, etc.

NEXUS was more potent in mortals in ancient times, which assisted in the otherwise inexplicable proximity to gods and monsters and such. Presently, noticeable NEXUS is quite rare in mortals, only a select few having enough to even attract NEXUS in the first place.

Similar to JJBA Stand users, NEXUS attracts NEXUS. Self explanatory I think.

A person's NEXUS can be masked/hidden with the use of NEXUS nullifying items, but they’re extremely hard to find.
