My partner and I were joking Wednesday about how all the good Women's matches happen on Collision because you need Nigel there to simp for Mariah, but you know what? I take it back, it's no longer a joke.

There are two major Women's matches tonight that I am Excited for on Collision, and I winced my way through every minute of the Kamille vs Statlander match on Fright Night which I should have been hyped AF for along with a lot of the other ones lately, and I'm realizing it's 100% that Daddy Magic, Excalibur, and Tony Shiavone do NOT know how to commentate on Women's matches.

They just go silent or restrain themselves to avoid saying something inappropriate which makes the matches feel Flat compared to the men's matches, while Nigel acts like he's a prophet being privileged to witness the acts of minor goddesses doing battle before him.

How many times do we see children have to step up and be the hero in a story while the adults stand by praising their bravery and sacrifice, doing nothing to help them? How many trusted, respected adults don't step in to help shoulder the burden left to the youngest? But not this time. Orange is tired (emotionally and physically) and the task ahead is a heavy one. But he looked around at the young people standing up to dangerous people with much more power and did the only thing he could've possibly done.

He put himself directly in the line of fire because he understood that even though he didn't ask for it, maybe doesn't want it, these kids need a leader right now to make sure they don't get hurt and there's nobody else around who is willing to step up so it has to be him. Even if he doesn't think he's the guy for the job, he steps up anyway because what other choice does he have? Leave the most promising young talent to go up against combined decades of experience to get chewed up and spit out while he watches on and shrugs? Pretend he doesn't care? Maybe some people can do that, but underneath his laid back demeanor Orange Cassidy cares too much for that to be an option. Someone needs to guide these people, provide the experience and knowledge they lack so they stand a fighting chance.

Even though he's tired and he never wanted to be in charge, he rolls up his sleeves and gets to work. Sometimes you just gotta do it.

Ponyboy canonically writes The Outsiders in their universe and has the rights to it... So he would have something to do with the movie/play/musical/TV show.

Which would explain why Steve got shoved into ensemble instead of being a main character.
