The people who go "well who's going to look after you when you're old?" when you say you're not having kids are breathtakingly naive. Our next-door neighbour, somewhere in her mid-80s, has a son, grandkids, and a grear-granddaughter, and who's the one she calls when she needs help, and checks that she's not spending christmas alone? Me and my boyfriend.

Having kids is irrelevant if the answer to that question is still going to be "the mentally ill faggots next door."

Actually I know I promote smoking like no tmr but SERIOUSLY younger trans men and enbies who would consider top surgery in the future stay the fuck away from tobacco products until well after surgery, the chemical dependanty is easy to start and is HARD TO END. And to get top surgery you will be required to quit nicotine 6 months in advance because the chemicals in cigarettes prevent your body and lungs from healing properly, leading to a higher risk of complications or infections. I myself have struggled to quit and it's still actively something I'm struggling with because it's so incredibly hard to quit. Don't prevent yourself from a better future because of immediate pleasures yk. I want y'all to get that surgery. At least it's not the same for weed tho u only need to kick that for a couple weeks so just stick to pot and be responsible

I hate, hate, HATE the term “affordable housing.” I hate that we’ve normalized it. I hate that we just accept that the majority of housing, a basic human right, is unaffordable to much of the population. Housing should be affordable as a baseline. If rich people want to add arcades and gold-plated hot tubs on top so be it, but everyone, everyone, regardless of income level, should have access to a clean, comfortable home with enough light and space to make life worth living.

I can't believe this is even a debate but even if someone's disability is genuinely fully caused by their own actions they still deserve accommodation and community

Yes this applies to substance use yes this applies to reckless behaviour yes it applies to purposefully injuring yourself.

If someone disables or injures themselves on purpose to such a large degree then they need aid regardless of how you feel about their actions

The fact that people don't think friendship is enough to justify characters doing insane acts of love for each other baffles me. Like have you never loved your friend so so much you want to live in their ribcage. Have you never been really weird about a friend. look I'm a disability studies scholar so I know why people are like this. but. people really do get so pressed about the dumbest shit. why do you care if someone has multiple people in their head? why do you care if someone is existing with a mobility aid in your line of sight? why do you care if someone takes a couple extra seconds to formulate a sentence? even if you don't believe that someone is legitimately disabled (which is bad on its own. but still). what do you lose by just taking people at face value? and what do you gain by living life as an angry little ass all the time?

in the same vein, just as it doesn't matter why or how someone is disabled, it doesn't matter why or how someone became homeless or addicted to something. support that's conditional on the reason being acceptable to you isn't real support.
