Lee byung-hun x actress!reader 🙏
Reader and byung-hun are in a promotion vid for squid game s2 where it's just them and the director and they read fan mails about their characters chemistry and the fact that they are being shipped in the series and irl. But the director has no plan on making their characters a thing so he joked that the fans gave him an idea and he might actually do it. Both byung-hun and reader are surprised by the ship and also worried that the fans somehow knew that the two of them dated in their highschool days which explains the chemistry of their characters.
After the filming of the promotion vid a week later a fan saw them at a cafe together and a rumor started that they are dating.
loveeee this, thank uu for requesting. you can read it here

The room was brightly lit, cameras positioned at every angle, and a familiar nervousness settled in the pit of your stomach. You weren’t new to interviews, but something about these promotional videos always made you a little jittery. Maybe it was the anticipation of how fans would react, or maybe it was the fact that sitting next to you was none other than Lee Byung-hun—your former high school boyfriend and now your co-star in Squid Game Season 2.
The two of you walked into the room together, followed by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who greeted the crew with a casual nod.
“Alright,” a staff member announced. “We’re shooting two videos today. The first segment is watching fan edits, and the second is reading fan letters. Just react naturally, have fun, and remember—no breaking into hysterics.”
Byung-hun chuckled beside you. “That sounds like a challenge.”
You smirked. “You sound scared.”
“I might as well be. Have you seen those AI edits of me and Lee Jung-jae?”
The staff gestured for silence, signaling that the cameras were rolling. You introduced yourself to the camera, followed by Byung-hun and Dong-hyuk. The screen before you flickered to life, and the first video started playing.
The first edit was cinematic—a high-energy montage of Squid Game 2’s most intense moments. Gunfights, chase sequences, close-ups of steely gazes. It had everything. The booming orchestral soundtrack made every scene feel ten times more dramatic.
Byung-hun let out an impressed whistle. “Did we actually shoot something this cool?”
You nodded. “Because I don’t remember looking this badass.”
Dong-hyuk leaned forward, squinting. “Wait—when did you do that roll behind cover?”
You snorted. “That’s the one where I landed wrong and bruised my entire arm.”
Byung-hun grinned. “Ohhh, right. And you tried to play it off like you meant to do it.”
“I did mean to do it.”
Dong-hyuk shook his head. “That’s not what you said when you screamed in pain afterward.”
Byung-hun burst into laughter. Your light punch to his side silenced him, earning a dramatic yelp.
“Give respect to your elders!”
You gave the camera a look. “He’s so dramatic. We’re literally only one year apart.”
The next edit was a deep dive into In-ho’s past, set in black and white with emotional piano music. It contrasted his life as a police officer with his role as the Front Man, highlighting the tragedy of his choices.
Dong-hyuk hummed thoughtfully. “This fan basically made a better teaser than we did.”
Byung-hun nodded. “Can we hire them?”
You pointed at a particular shot. “This scene—this is when you had to retake your mask removal, what, twenty times?”
Byung-hun groaned. “Ugh. The mask kept getting caught on my hood. Every time I tried to look dramatic, I just looked stuck.”
Dong-hyuk chuckled. “We had to cut out three takes where you sighed right into the mask.”
Byung-hun held up his hands. “No need to expose me like that.”
Then came the brainrot edit. An animation of Squid Game characters dancing to some bizarre, upbeat song.
You had the biggest grin—too silly not to laugh. The video didn’t even make sense.
Dong-hyuk had his brows furrowed, an amused but not entirely entertained smile on his face.
Byung-hun, on the other hand, sat perfectly still, eyes locked on the screen. No one could tell what he was thinking.
When it ended, you all exchanged an awkward glance.
“I mean… I like it. It’s an interesting video,” you said, wiping tears from the corners of your eyes, still laughing.
Dong-hyuk fixed his glasses. “Is this what people see when they watch my show?”
Byung-hun crossed his arms. “They didn’t do me justice. Why is the Front Man not included in this video?”
The staff smirked. “Don’t worry, there’s a Front Man edit in the next one.”
The next video was different. The music was softer, the pacing slower. It highlighted your character’s interactions with In-ho—subtle glances, moments of hesitation, scenes where your characters moved in sync. It wasn’t obvious in the actual show, but with the way the editor framed it…
It almost looked like something was going on.
Byung-hun blinked. “What’s this?”
Dong-hyuk raised an eyebrow. “They created scenes that aren’t even in the series.”
You squinted. “Are we too old to understand what this is?”
It was a ship edit.
Silence.
Then, Byung-hun let out a slow, amused chuckle. “Well. That was unexpected.”
Dong-hyuk crossed his arms. “You two do have really natural chemistry.”
You cleared your throat. “I mean, our characters have history, so—”
Byung-hun nodded. “Right, right. Former police officers.”
Dong-hyuk hummed. “Well, I had another love interest in mind for In-ho, but thinking about it… your characters being shipped makes sense. Maybe I should make it canon in Season 3.”
Both you and Byung-hun snapped your heads toward him.
“Huh?!”
The crew erupted into laughter. Dong-hyuk smiled and closed the segment with a thank-you and a Squid Game 2 promotion.
After a quick makeup touch-up, a staff member placed a stack of envelopes in front of you, Byung-hun, and Dong-hyuk.
Dong-hyuk stretched his arms and grinned. “Alright, let’s see what the fans have to say. If anyone insults my writing, I’m walking out.”
Byung-hun smirked. “I’d say you’re bluffing, but we all know you’re dramatic enough to do it.”
You laughed. “Place your bets, everyone. How many letters will be about Byung-hun’s attractiveness?”
Byung-hun scoffed. “Excuse me, I am a serious actor. Not just a handsome face.”
The cameras rolled.
You picked up the first letter and smoothed it out before reading aloud.
‘Dear Director Hwang, your storytelling is a masterpiece. Every scene feels like it has so much depth and emotion. How do you come up with such gripping narratives?’
Dong-hyuk’s face lit up. “Ah, A letter for me!”
Byung-hun immediately reached over, fingers grasping at the paper. “Skip it.”
You swatted his hand away. “No, let him have his moment.”
Dong-hyuk straightened his posture, adjusting his jacket with mock importance. “Well, since you asked… My process is simple. I think, ‘What is the most stressful, painful situation I can put my characters in?’ And then I do that.”
Byung-hun leaned back in his chair, shaking his head. “I knew you enjoyed torturing us.”
Dong-hyuk grinned. “Absolutely.”
Byung-hun exhaled, then grabbed the next letter from the pile, unfolding it.
‘Was filming action scenes difficult? Especially the parkour scenes.’
You didn’t hesitate. “Oh, definitely. That scene where I had to jump from bed to bed? I had bruises for days.”
Byung-hun winced at the memory. “Oh yeah, you took a pretty bad fall.”
You sighed dramatically, throwing your arms up. “And no one even said ‘cut’ when I landed wrong! I had to just lie there in pain.”
Dong-hyuk raised a hand in defense. “Okay, to be fair, it looked intentional.”
Byung-hun let out a deep chuckle, shaking his head. “You heard it here first, folks. The director is a masochist.”
Dong-hyuk smirked. “It builds character.”
Byung-hun rubbed his temple. “I worry for your future wife.”
You sifted through the pile and grabbed the next letter.
‘To Byung-hun, was it difficult wearing the Front Man’s mask for long periods of time? It looks heavy.’
Byung-hun groaned dramatically, flopping against the back of his chair. “Oh, you have no idea.”
Dong-hyuk snorted. “He complained about it every single day.”
Byung-hun sat up, pointing at him. “Because it was a legitimate problem! The mask was so heavy, and it pressed into my face so much that I had red marks after every shoot.”
You bit back a laugh. “And let’s not forget the time it got stuck.”
Byung-hun groaned, covering his face with his hands. “Oh, please, let’s forget that.”
Dong-hyuk smirked. “We have footage.”
Byung-hun immediately turned to the camera, eyes pleading. “Dear editors, if you have any mercy, don’t include that clip.”
They did.
Dong-hyuk chuckled and grabbed the next letter. “‘Director Hwang, who is your favorite character in Squid Game?’”
He let out a dramatic sigh. “Yikes. That’s like asking me to pick my favorite child.”
Byung-hun smirked. “But we all know you have a favorite.”
Dong-hyuk tapped his fingers against the table, pretending to contemplate. “Well… I have a soft spot for In-ho.”
Byung-hun gasped, clutching his chest as if he’d been struck. “You love me?”
Dong-hyuk’s deadpan stare didn’t waver. “I said I love In-ho. Not you.”
You burst into laughter as Byung-hun recoiled in mock betrayal. “Wow, I won’t return to Season 3 then.”
Dong-hyuk ignored him, his expression thoughtful. “I love complex characters, and In-ho has so much depth. There’s still so much left to explore with him.”
You leaned in. “So, does that mean he’s safe in Season 3?”
Dong-hyuk smirked. “I mean, it’s possible, but I don’t know. We’ll have to find out.”
Byung-hun cut in, laughing. “What do you mean you don’t know? You created the story.”
Dong-hyuk simply shrugged. “Let’s just say… No one is ever truly safe.”
The next letter Byung-hun picked up seemed harmless at first.
‘I don’t know what it is, but…’
He stopped mid-sentence, chuckling as he glanced at the camera, then at you and Dong-hyuk. “I don’t know if I can continue reading this without someone getting mad.”
Silence fell over the room.
Curious, you snatched the letter from his hands and scanned it. A laugh bubbled out of you. “Who’s gonna get mad over this?”
Byung-hun gave you a knowing look, subtly hinting at someone you had dated during filming.
Your expression faltered for half a second before you quickly masked it with a tight smile. Keeping your mouth hidden from the camera, you mouthed, “We broke up.”
Dong-hyuk grinned and leaned forward to peek at the letter over your shoulder. “Well, well, well. They think you two have some history together because you make the characters so compelling together.”
Byung-hun cleared his throat, spitting out a joke before anyone could dwell on the comment. “Have you guys ever considered we are both just very good actors?”
Dong-hyuk stroked his chin, looking thoughtful. “Seeing how everybody seems to ship you two, maybe I should create a romance movie with you both.”
You and Byung-hun turned to him in horror, simultaneously shaking your heads.
Dong-hyuk simply shrugged. “What? The fans love it. I should give them what they want.”
Byung-hun laughed nervously and quickly faced the camera. “Okay let's end it! Thank you for watching this video. Don’t forget to watch us on Netflix!”
After finishing the shoot, the three of you parted ways—but the internet did not.
A week after the video was published, fans went crazy. The shipping theories got worse. Your social media was flooded with comments. Multiple media outlets invited you and Byung-hun for interviews together, riding the hype.
One afternoon, before another press event, you texted him.
Want to grab coffee before the next interview?
Thought you’d never ask.
At the café, he took a sip of his drink and smirked. “Remember how broke we were from getting coffee every other day in high school?”
You groaned. “Oh god, that was what? Twenty—no, thirty years ago? High school was rough. I don’t even want to remember that.”
“You’re mean. So I meant nothing to you?” He feigned hurt, holding back a smile.
“Oh, shush. You know what I mean.” You playfully pushed his forehead as he held the door open for you. “Besides, we lasted ‘til university, no—”
Click.
A camera shutter.
You froze. He froze.
Through the café window, a crowd had formed. Some held up phones. Others were whispering excitedly.
Fuck. They found you.
Byung-hun exhaled. “Well, I guess there’s no turning back.”
Then, with a smirk, he grabbed your hand, laced his fingers through yours, and yanked you out of the sea of screaming fans.

Hi!! I saw that your requests were open, so I thought I’d send one. This idea’s just been in my mind for a while lol
Anyway, it’s an LBH x reader one where they are starring together in something and they get really close with each other? Like to the point that they’re almost inseparable and like they do sweet stuff for/with each other, but they’re not officially together yet… in my mind the reader is originally a theater actress and their show together is like her first ever project on TV/Film and even after they finished filming, they’re still close (he would like send flowers to her on opening nights of whatever musical/play she’s on and regularly watch her shows and pick her up from the theater) and during the promo for their show, they’re just basically making heart eyes to each other… anyway, ofc the fans catch on and start shipping them hard… and not sure how I want it to end, so you can end it however you want. Sorry if this is too long and confusing (I kinda just rambled 😅)
i love this request soo much!! you can read it here! i'm sorry if it's not up to your expectations.

A Star in the Making.

Summary — Co-stars were caught in a whirlwind of off-screen chemistry.
A/N — this is a request that i rewrote the draft multiple times. the story request itself is sooo good but i feel this didn't live up to my expectations. hopefully, it's an enjoyable read though.

Lee Byung-hun sat at the long, polished table across from Kim Tae-ri and the production team, a script resting unopened in front of him. The meeting room buzzed with quiet anticipation as the director leaned forward, clearing his throat.
“So,” the director began, looking between Byung-hun and Tae-ri, “we’re finalizing casting for Our Fading Days. Ji-ho and Min-ji are set, but we’re still struggling with Ha-yoon.”
Kim Tae-ri, who got cast as Min-ji tilted her head. “Isn’t the screen test next week? I thought you had a shortlist already.”
The director sighed. “We do, but none of them quite fit. Ha-yoon is vital to the story. We need someone who embodies her hopeful, cheerful energy, but also has depth. Someone who can hold her own against Ji-ho’s quieter nature and make the audience feel that emotional connection.”
Byung-hun listened quietly, his fingers lightly drumming the table. “What’s the issue with the shortlist?” he asked.
“Either they have great chemistry with you but lack the character,” the director explained, “or have the character but can’t create the platonic bond Ji-ho and Ha-yoon need. We’re considering holding another round of auditions, but…”
The producer chimed in. “We’re running out of time. If either of you has recommendations, please send them our way.”
Kim Tae-ri raised a brow at Byung-hun. “Any ideas?”
He shook his head. “Not yet.”
That evening, Byung-hun walked home under the dim city lights. The meeting lingered in his mind. Casting Ha-yoon was proving difficult, and he wasn’t sure they’d find someone who could balance the character’s charm and vulnerability.
As he passed a local theater, he noticed the soft glow of lights through the windows. Something pulled at him—curiosity, maybe. Without thinking, he pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The auditorium was nearly empty, save for a handful of people rehearsing on stage. Byung-hun’s gaze locked on a young woman, her. She stood at the center, pouring raw emotion into a heartfelt scene. Her voice carried across the room, weaving between desperation and hope. The intensity in her eyes made the dialogue feel alive like she wasn’t just acting but being.
He didn’t know the play or her name, but he felt a pang of admiration. The way she transitioned from lighthearted to deeply emotional reminded him of Ha-yoon’s complexity.
When the scene ended, her laughter rang out as she joked with the cast. The shift was so effortless that it startled him. This wasn’t just an actress—this was Ha-yoon.
Before he could gather his thoughts, a stage crew member approached him. “Sorry, sir, rehearsals aren’t open to the public.”
Byung-hun nodded apologetically. “My mistake.”
As he walked out, he pulled out his phone and called the director. “I think I found the perfect Ha-yoon. Contact the Arko Arts Theater. You’ll know her when you see her.”
⋆。𖦹° ⏾ ˚。⋆
Months passed, and filming for Our Fading Days was in full swing. You, cast as Ha-yoon, had been a bundle of nerves during your first few days on set. Transitioning from theater to television was daunting, but Byung-hun made it easier.
From the start, he was supportive, sharing tips, running lines, and reassuring you when you doubted yourself. “You’re doing great,” he said one evening after a long day of filming. “Better than great. Ha-yoon feels real because of you.”
“Thanks,” you murmured, still unsure. “It just feels… unnatural sometimes. Like I’m out of place.”
He smiled softly. “If that’s unnatural, I can’t imagine what you’re like when you’re in your element.”
The two of you quickly became inseparable. Lunch breaks were spent sharing snacks, late-night text exchanges were filled with inside jokes, and off-set outings turned into a regular thing. Kim Tae-ri often teased the both of you, trying to nudge the relationship further, but you and Byung-hun were oblivious to her hints.
As filming wrapped up, you found yourself bittersweet about the end. “I’m going to miss all of this,” you admitted one day.
He glanced at you. “You mean the show or…”
“Everything,” you replied vaguely.
The promotional interviews were in full swing, and the three of you, Lee Byung-hun, Kim Tae-ri, and you, sat on a couch, microphones in hand, under the bright studio lights.
The interviewer smiled as they turned to the group. “The story of Our Fading Days is so compelling—a childhood friendship between Ji-ho and Ha-yoon drifting apart as Ji-ho falls in love with Min-ji. It’s relatable and bittersweet. But,” they continued, their tone shifting to something more playful, “fans have picked up on something surprising. Despite Ji-ho and Ha-yoon not being a romantic pair, viewers are shipping you two. What do you think about that?”
You blinked, caught off guard for a moment, and then laughed lightly. “Oh, well, I guess it’s pretty common to root for the childhood best friend to end up with the main guy, even though Ji-ho and Ha-yoon see each other as strictly platonic. But yeah, I understand them, Ha-yoon's reaction towards their deteriorating friendship might seem more than platonic to the viewers.”
Before you could say more, Kim Tae-ri let out an amused laugh, shaking her head. “I think you misunderstood. The question wasn’t about Ji-ho and Ha-yoon. They’re asking about you and Byung-hun.”
Your eyes widened as the realization hit, and heat crept up your neck. “Oh.” You let out a nervous laugh, glancing at Byung-hun for support.
Byung-hun grinned, clearly amused by your reaction. “Really?” he said, leaning into the playful tone, “Shipping us? Wow, that’s a first—I didn’t think I had the qualifications to keep up with her. She’s the real star here!”
You laughed along with him, brushing it off. “He's too nice but yeah, Let's keep the shipping between our fictional lives.”
Kim Tae-ri smiled knowingly, her tone light but deliberate. “I don't know, you guys...” She paused, then added slyly, “Min-ji might just be the third wheel around here.”
The interviewer raised their eyebrows, the audience chuckled, and you felt your face grow warmer as you exchanged a quick, sheepish glance with Byung-hun. He gave a soft laugh, shaking his head in mock defeat, and the moment moved on—though the subtle tension lingered in the air.
⋆。𖦹° ⏾ ˚。⋆
Even after promotions ended, Byung-hun remained a constant in your life. He came to your theater performances, always waiting backstage with flowers in hand.
“You’re spoiling me,” you joked one night after a show, hugging him tightly.
“You deserve it,” he replied.
That evening, as you both strolled under the city lights, he suddenly stopped.
“You know,” he said, his tone a little nervous.
“Hmm?” you asked, looking up at him.
“I was thinking...” He rubbed the back of his neck, a sheepish smile playing on his lips. “Ji-ho and Ha-yoon might make a great couple. Their relationship is certainly more than some friendship, don't you think? ”
Your eyes widened, and for a moment, you were speechless. Then you laughed, the sound warm and genuine.
“Is Ji-ho trying to confess, here?” you teased.
“Maybe,” he admitted, grinning.
You tilted your head, pretending to think. “Well… Ha-yoon definitely can sense the adoration Ji-ho has for her. I can say that she feels the same way.”
He chuckled, his hand brushing yours. “I'm glad she feels the same. She's a star in the making and he will continue walking her way.”
As the two of you walked on, hand in hand, the city seemed brighter than ever.

You ran down the narrow streets, your breath visible in the cool air, clutching your coat tightly against the rain. The faint neon lights of the arcade flickered behind you as you sped towards the crosswalk, the same place where you had seen him days ago. The drizzle had picked up, soaking through your hair and clothes, but you didn’t care.
As you reached the crosswalk, you came to a halt, glancing at your watch. It was almost the same time as before. The thought struck you—what were the chances? Why would he even be here again? You didn’t know if this was a route he walked regularly or just a coincidence that day.
"Stupid," you muttered under your breath, shivering. Yet, you couldn’t bring yourself to leave. A small part of you, fragile but stubborn, clung to hope.
The rain grew heavier, each drop pounding against the pavement, and soon you were drenched. As you stood there, tears blurred your vision, mixing with the rain. “Please,” you whispered into the storm. “If I find him again, I swear… I won’t leave him. I won’t break any promises. I’ll always stay by his side.”
The words came out in fragments, carried by sobs you couldn’t suppress. You had been so young back then, too naive to understand what love really was. Even while you were abroad, it hadn’t clicked that the empty ache in your chest was because you loved him. You thought that maybe you were just homesick or missing a close friend. But now, with all the distance, silence, and regret, you knew. You had always loved him.
The minutes dragged into hours. Your fingers were numb, your body trembling from the cold. Maybe this was pointless. Maybe you’d missed your chance for good. Defeated, you turned to leave, your soaked shoes splashing through puddles as you stepped onto the crosswalk.
And then, suddenly, the rain stopped hitting you.
You froze, feeling a shadow cast over you. Slowly, you turned your head, and there he was. Byung-hun. Standing beside you, holding an umbrella over your head, his face a mixture of sadness and something unreadable. His lips parted slightly as if he wanted to speak but hesitated. His eyes, those familiar expressive eyes were glistening, as though tears threatened to spill.
“You’ll get sick,” he finally said, quiet but firm. “C’mon, I'll take you home.”
For a moment, you couldn’t move, too stunned by the sight of him. But then, you nodded, allowing him to guide you away from the crosswalk.
The two of you walked silently for several minutes, rain muffled by the umbrella above. You clung to your coat, your mind a storm of emotions. But when you glanced at him, his expression was enough to shatter your composure.
“Byung-hun,” you said, your voice trembling.
He turned to you, confused, but before he could ask what was wrong, you broke down. Tears streamed down your face as you struggled to form the words.
“I’m sorry,” you choked out. “I’m so, so sorry. I should’ve told you I was leaving. I should’ve thought about how you felt, but I didn’t. I thought that if I told you last minute, you wouldn’t have time to get mad at me, but… I was selfish. I was wrong.”
You swallowed hard, trying to steady yourself, but the words kept pouring out. “You must hate me now, and I don’t blame you. I’d hate me too.”
For a moment, he said nothing, and the silence was deafening. You braced yourself for his anger, his disappointment—anything but the warmth you felt when he suddenly wrapped his arms around you.
“I could never hate you,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Not even one little bit.”
Byung-hun pulled back slightly, his arms holding you close as he looked deeply into your eyes. His gaze softened, and with a tenderness that made your heart ache, he raised a hand to gently caress your face. His thumb brushed away a stray tear from your cheek, his touch warm against your cold skin.
You let out a small chuckle, though it came out shaky, your tears betraying the happiness behind it. But despite everything, you were smiling. A smile so bright and full of life, the same one you used to give him years ago. The one he thought he’d never see again.
And then he smiled back. A real, unguarded smile that felt like it carried the weight of all the time you’d spent apart. Your joy spread, melting the distance that had once separated you both.
“I’m sorry too,” he said softly, his voice laced with regret. “For overreacting when you left. I… I was hurt, but I should’ve listened to you instead of shutting you out. For years, I’ve thought about that moment, wishing I could go back and undo it all. Wishing I could’ve been better for you.”
His words made your chest tighten, but it wasn’t pain this time. It was something deeper, something more hopeful.
Byung-hun’s eyes flickered down to your lips, lingering for a brief moment before darting back to meet yours. You saw the hesitation, the vulnerability in his expression, and it made your heart race.
“Can I?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, as if afraid of breaking the moment.
Your breath hitched, and the question caught you off guard. Your cheeks burned, and you instinctively averted your gaze, too embarrassed to meet his. But after a second, you gave a small nod—so slight it might have gone unnoticed if he wasn’t paying attention.
But he was.
His hand cupped your cheek as he leaned in slowly, giving you enough time to pull away if you wanted to. But you didn’t. Instead, you closed the remaining distance between you, letting the world blur around you.
His lips met yours, soft and warm against the cold rain-soaked air. It was hesitant at first as if he wasn’t sure he was allowed to have this moment. But as you melted into him, his grip on you tightened ever so slightly, the kiss deepening into something more certain, more real.
It was everything unspoken. Years of longing, regret, and love poured into a single moment. The rain still fell around you, the umbrella slightly tilting as neither seemed to care. All that mattered was him, you, and the connection that had always been there, waiting for this very moment.
When the kiss ended, you both lingered close, foreheads gently touching as you tried to catch your breath. Byung-hun let out a small laugh, low and disbelieving, he couldn’t believe this was real.
“You’re freezing,” he said, his voice warm and affectionate, though there was still concern in his eyes.
You laughed softly, your lips still tingling from the kiss. “Guess that’s what I get for standing in the rain waiting for you.”
He smiled again, shaking his head slightly. “You’re unbelievable.”
“And you’re late,” you teased, earning another laugh from him.
Byung-hun stepped back just enough to adjust the umbrella over both of you, his hand slipping into yours as he pulled you closer. “Let’s get you home,” he said, his tone gentle but firm.
This time, as you walked together, the silence wasn’t heavy or awkward. It was filled with warmth, with everything you didn’t need to say because the connection between you had already spoken for itself.

The streets of Seoul were bustling as usual. People hurried past, umbrellas shielding them from a faint drizzle. On opposite sides of the road, two figures unknowingly walked in parallel paths. You clutched your bag nervously, trying to avoid the water from ruining your belongings, while on the other side, a tall man in a sleek black coat walked confidently, his face partially hidden by a baseball cap.
As the traffic lights turned red, you stepped onto the crosswalk, and your eyes caught his. Something about him felt achingly familiar, but the thought slipped away as the two of you passed each other. Just as you reached the other side, an unexplainable tug made you glance back. You saw him turn too, his eyes meeting yours for a short moment.
“Byung-hun?” you murmured under your breath.
Gathering your courage, you waved with a bright smile, the kind you always used to greet him with back in the day. But instead of the warm recognition you expected, his expression remained monotone. He looked away and continued walking.
Your hand fell slowly, your smile fading. Hurt pricked at your chest, but you shook it off, convincing yourself there must be some explanation. You couldn't help but remember the joyful times you spent with him.

The bell rang, signaling the start of class, but the seat next to you was still empty. You tapped your pencil against your desk, glancing out the window. Moments later, Byung-hun slipped into the classroom, his hair slightly disheveled, a mischievous grin plastered on his face.
“You’re late,” you teased, raising an eyebrow.
“And you’re still here? I thought you’d be bored to death already,” he shot back with a chuckle.
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t suppress a smile. Byung-hun leaned closer, lowering his voice. “Wanna ditch?”
“What?” you whispered, eyes widening. “We can’t just—”
“C’mon, we're seniors. They won't bat an eye!” he said, grabbing your hand and pulling you out of your seat.
The two of you sneaked out through the back gate, muffling your laughter as the wind rushed past. The afternoon was spent at a nearby arcade, battling each other in games, eating street food, and talking about dreams that seemed so big back then.
"I want to be a famous actor," He proudly claimed.
"One day, I'm going to write a movie, and I'll make you the biggest actor in the world," You replied, supporting his dream.
As the sun began to set, you both sat by the riverbank, the golden light reflecting on the water.
“Promise me,” he said suddenly, turning to face you.
“Promise you what?”
“That no matter what happens, we’ll always stick together. Okay?”
You smiled, holding out your pinky. “Promise.”
He hooked his pinky with yours, his grin wide and genuine. “Promise.”
Later that evening, you both parted ways. Your grin and wave brought out a giggle from him. It was a small moment, but it stayed with you. You had no idea how much that promise would mean for him.

The memory faded as you found yourself back in the present, the bustling streets of Seoul grounding you once more. The ache in your chest deepened. What had changed? Why did he act like he didn’t know you?
A few days passed and he still lingers in your mind. You were scrolling through your phone when a message from your sister popped up. It was a video link accompanied by a single question:
Doesn't he used to go to your school?
You clicked on the link, your heart skipping a beat as a familiar face appeared on the screen. Lee Byung-hun. The caption read: “Rising Star Lee Byung-hun Shares His Story.”
In the video, he was seated on a sleek couch, his polished demeanor worlds away from the carefree boy you once knew. The interviewer asked about his childhood, and his response hit like a punch to the gut.
“Honestly, I never really felt like I belonged anywhere,” he said, his voice calm and composed. “High school was a lonely time for me. I didn't have any close relations.”
Your heart clenched. How could he say that? The boy who had once sworn to always be there for you—the boy you had shared countless memories with—now claimed he had no friends?
You replayed the clip, hoping you had misunderstood. But the words stayed the same. Each repetition felt like another crack in the foundation of your cherished memories. You closed the video and sat back, staring at the ceiling, the weight of confusion and hurt pressing heavily on your chest. Trying to distract yourself, you grabbed a random book to read. But fate seemed to have other plans.
A picture from your early high school days fell off the shelf. It was the two of you, grinning widely as you held up a trophy from a group project competition. The memory behind that photo stirred something deep inside you. You remembered how you had to practically drag him to the stage when he was too embarrassed to go up, telling him, “You did just as much as I did. If I’m going up, so are you.”
Your fingers hovered over the picture, and as you stared at it, the emotions bubbling within pulled you back further into another memory—your first encounter with Byung-hun. It was so vivid, as though the years separating then and now had disappeared entirely.

The classroom was crowded with chatter as the new student was introduced. Lee Byung-hun stood at the front, his hands shoved in his pockets, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.
“You can take the seat next to her,” the teacher said, pointing toward you.
He shuffled over, barely sparing you a glance as he sat down.
“Hi! How are you?” you said brightly.
He looked at you, surprised. “I'm fine, thanks.”
“Nice to meet you, Byung-hun. Let me know if you need anything, okay?”
He nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. From that day on, the two of you were inseparable. Whether it was group projects, lunch breaks, or late-night phone calls, you had each other’s backs. You remembered the way he had slowly opened up, sharing stories about his old school and how he always felt like an outsider.
“Not anymore,” you had told him with a grin. “You belong here now.”
His smile had been shy but grateful. “Thank you,”

Had those moments meant nothing to him? You felt tears sting your eyes, the hurt bubbling up uncontrollably. But almost immediately, you wiped your face, taking a deep, shuddering breath. This wasn’t you. You weren’t going to let these feelings drown you.
Needing to clear your head, you grabbed your house keys and slipped on your shoes. Fresh air would help, you told yourself. You stepped out into the cool evening, the faint rain lingering in the air. Without thinking, you began walking, letting your feet guide you as your mind remained tangled in memories.
At some point, you found yourself standing at the same crosswalk where you had seen Byung-hun just days ago. You froze for a moment, staring at the spot where you had smiled and waved, only to be met with his indifference. The pang of that memory made you glance down, biting your lip, before you continued walking.
Lost in thought, you didn’t realize how far you had gone until you stopped in front of a building that made you blink in surprise. It was the old arcade you and Byung-hun used to visit whenever you ditched school. The bright, flashing neon lights seemed almost out of place among the modern cityscape, but there it was—still standing after all these years.
Curiosity and nostalgia drew you in. The familiar jingle of the entrance bell brought a flood of memories. You wandered the aisles, eyes scanning the games you used to play together, a bittersweet smile tugging at your lips. It felt surreal, being back here after so long.
“Excuse me,” a voice called out, pulling you from your thoughts. An older man, likely one of the long-time workers, approached you with a curious expression. “You look familiar… Weren’t you a regular here back in the day? Always hanging out with that tall boy…”
You blinked, surprised that he remembered. “Uh, yeah. That was me,” you said with a sheepish smile.
“What was his name again? Byung-something, right?” the man asked, snapping his fingers as he tried to recall.
“Byung-hun,” you supplied softly, the name tasting bittersweet on your tongue.
“Ah, that’s right! Byung-hun! You two were always together. How’s he doing? Are you still in touch?”
The question made your heart twist. “I… no. We're not,” you admitted, averting your gaze.
The man’s face softened. “That’s a shame. You know, I could always tell he cared about you a lot. That boy… he liked you from the very beginning. Said so himself once.”
You froze, your breath catching. “What?”
The man chuckled, clearly unaware of the impact his words had. “Yeah, he mentioned it when you two came in here for the first time. He was so shy about it, though. Just kept watching you out of the corner of his eye, like you were the best thing he’d ever seen. But the last time I saw him, he was a mess. He said you left the country and he wasn't sure if you were going to come back. One thing he said he knew for sure though is that he lost you forever,”
Your mind reeled, the revelation hitting you like a train. All the memories you had shared with Byung-hun suddenly carried a new weight, a new meaning. To you, your goodbye meant a new chapter being written. But to him, it meant losing you—losing everything. Before you could process it further, the man was called away by another customer, leaving you standing there, stunned.
And then, as if the universe wanted to twist the knife, your thoughts shifted—to him. From his perspective, starting from the moment he had seen you again at that crosswalk.

Byung-hun adjusted the brim of his baseball cap as he walked briskly down the bustling street. He was on his way to a meeting for his upcoming film, the one everyone was talking about. His agent had reminded him—yet again—how important this role was for his rising career. But none of that was on his mind when he stopped at the crosswalk.
The moment he saw her, his heart stuttered. There she was, on the opposite side of the road, clutching her bag tightly like she always used to when she was nervous. His feet rooted to the ground, his breath catching in his chest. It had been years, but she hadn’t changed much. The same eyes, the same demeanor—still as beautiful as he remembered.
For a second, he thought about calling out to her, but the words died in his throat. How could he? He wasn’t the same person she used to know, and seeing her so cheerful, so bright—it hurt. She looked like she’d moved on, like she’d left their memories behind. And him? He had spent years trying to forget her, but here she was, undoing all of it with just a glance.
As they crossed paths, he saw her wave and smile at him, the same smile she used to give him back in high school. It took everything in him to keep walking, to pretend he didn’t know her. He wasn’t ready to face her, not when all the unresolved emotions threatened to spill over.
He forced his legs to keep moving, his jaw tightening as he left her behind. Once he was out of sight, he paused, leaning against a wall to catch his breath. His hands trembled as he adjusted his coat, but he shook his head and pushed himself forward. He had a meeting to attend.
Hours passed by, and Byung-hun sat at the long table, nodding along as the director explained the plot of his next project—a romance with a bittersweet ending. He should have been focused, taking notes, asking questions. But his mind was elsewhere.
“Byung-hun?” the director’s voice snapped him back to reality. “What do you think?”
He cleared his throat, straightening in his seat. “It’s… an intriguing story,” he replied, forcing a professional tone.
The plot they had described, two people brought together by fate, only to be torn apart by circumstances, felt uncomfortably familiar. It made him think of her, of the promises they had made back in high school. Promises that, in the end, neither of them could keep.

The days leading up to graduation were supposed to be exciting, full of plans and dreams for the future. But something had shifted between you and Byung-hun. You had been distant, avoiding his questions and brushing off his attempts to talk.
“Y/N,” he finally cornered you after class one day, his tone firm. “What’s going on? You’ve been acting weird.”
You hesitated, looking anywhere but at him. “It’s nothing,” you mumbled.
“It’s not nothing,” he pressed. “Just tell me.”
Before you could answer, a classmate approached, grinning. “Hey, Y/N! Congrats on the acceptance letter! How’s the prep for moving abroad going?”
Byung-hun froze, his eyes snapping to you. “Abroad?”
You winced, guilt written all over your face. “I was going to tell you…”
“When?” he demanded, his voice rising. “After you left? Or were you just never going to say anything?”
“I didn’t know how to tell you,” you admitted, your voice breaking. “I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“Hurt me?” he repeated, his laugh bitter. “Do you even realize what this feels like? We promised we’d always be there for each other. And now you’re just leaving?”
Tears welled up in your eyes. “I was scared, okay? I didn’t know how you’d react. I didn’t want you to hate me.”
Byung-hun shook his head, his jaw clenching. “Do I even mean anything to you?”
The argument ended with no resolution. The days that followed were filled with silence, both of you too hurt to bridge the gap. But on the day of your flight, Byung-hun showed up at the airport.
“I couldn’t let you leave without saying goodbye,” he said, his voice soft but strained. “I… I had to see you.”
You hugged him tightly, whispering apologies and promises to stay in touch. He hugged you back, but deep down, he knew things would never be the same.
"I'm chasing my dreams, Byung-hun. Dreams that I had never even thought were possible. I hope you'll understand and I know you will. You'll always stay in my mind... my best friend. And when I'm back, I better see your face plastered on every movie poster in town," You lightly joked.
He couldn't even crack a chuckle at her. Just tears and hiccups.
As he watched your plane take off, he wondered if you knew. If you knew, would you still go?
⋆。𖦹° ⏾ ˚。⋆
Sitting in that conference room, Byung-hun felt the weight of those memories pressing down on him. The question that had haunted him for years resurfaced. Had she ever loved him the way he loved her? And if she did… was it too late to find out?

𓆩 Lee Byung-Hun x F!reader 𓆪
Summary — A new upcoming actress lands her first major role in a romance drama alongside actor Lee Byung-hun.
A/N — this story is heavily inspired by a couple of Lee Byung-hun fanfics i’ve seen here. Go check the other’s works! (tension4mari & kyoyoyay)

The sun was starting to set, casting a soft golden glow over the set of the romance drama Through the Seasons. You sat in your chair, nervously twirling the script in your hands. It was your first major role, and while you’re ecstatic about working alongside such an accomplished actor, Lee Byung-hun, the upcoming scene had your nerves completely shot.
It wasn’t just any scene. It was the scene. The moment your character realizes the depth of the male lead’s feelings, right before he gently tilts your face up to look into his eyes, brimming with unspoken emotion.
The problem? You have never been in a relationship, let alone acted in a romance drama. How are you supposed to channel yearning, of all things?
The scenes you filmed before was so much easier. Honestly, it didn’t require much acting. Especially when your character is supposed to be all shy and flustered. Never able to make eye contact. It’s even better when you don’t even have to interact physically!
However, this is the moment where you have to throw all of that out and be in the moment. Imagining the awkwardness makes you want to vomit on the spot. Not leaving the fact that it’s such an intimate scene with someone you can barely say a close friend. Fuck.
“Everyone, let’s continue!” the director’s voice cut through her spiraling thoughts.
You took a deep breath and stepped onto the set, facing Lee Byung-hun. He was calm and composed, as if this kind of scene was just another day at work for him. Which, for him, it was. For you? Not so much.
“Byung-hun, Y/N” the director began, “this scene is all about subtlety. Byung-hun, you have to look at her like she’s the most important person in the world. Lift her chin softly, as if she’s going to break if you put the slightest bit of pressure on her. Y/N, hold his gaze. Let yourself get lost into his eyes. Like you are yearning for him, not wanting him to leave your sight. Then, when the door opens, you both will immediately push each other away acting clueless, Got it?”
You nodded quickly, though your stomach was doing somersaults. Byung-hun gave you a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry,” he said, his voice low and warm. “You’re going to do great.”
The cameras rolled. Byung-hun stepped closer, his eyes locking into yours. You could feel your heart pounding as he reached out, his fingers brushing your jawline—
“Pfft!” You burst into laughter, stepping back and covering your mouth. “I’m so sorry!” The crew chuckled, and the director smiled. “Alright, cut! Take a deep breath, Y/N. We’ll roll as soon as you’re ready.”
Byung-hun tilted his head, a small smirk playing on his lips. “What happened? Did I do something wrong?”
“No, no, it’s not you!” You stammered continuing to laugh. “I feel like my acting was too awkward, I’m sorry!” You took a deep breath and gave a nod to the director.
Take two.
Byung-hun’s faze was soft, yet piercing. His hand moved to your jaw, and— you giggled again, steeping back. “Gosh, I am so so sorry!”
“Cut!” The crew and director erupted in laughter, Byung-hun let out a chuckle. “You can’t keep it together, can you?”
“This is so- I laugh because I’m embarassed but then get embarassed for laughing.” She rants burying her face into her hands.
“Okay, let’s just pretend it’s not me, alright?” Byung-hun said before continuing, “Pretend I’m… I don’t know, a lamp or something.”
You burst out laughing again, shaking your head. “A lamp?! That is not helping!”
“Poor Y/N! someone get her a fan, she’s blushing like crazy!” A crew joined in, teasing you. “I’m not!” You protested, though your cheeks felt like they were on fire.
Byung-hun stepped closer, lowering his voice to make sure you’re comfortable with him doing the scene.
“I’m fine, It’s just… I’ve never done anything like this. Honestly, I’ve never even been this close to a guy before.”
His eyebrows lifted in genuine surprise. “Really? Not even a boyfriend? Boys your age must be blind.” He chuckled trying to lighten up the mood.
You looked away, feeling even more flustered.
He smiled, his expression softening. “Let me give you a little tip. Keep focusing on your character. What would she be feeling in this moment? Absorb her mannerisms. Forget about everything else, okay?”
You nodded, taking a deep breath. Your eyes closed, imagining the scene in your head.
“And if it helps,” he added, his voice teasing making you open your eyes. “Keep thinking of me as a lamp.” Laughter shot out of you again, but this time, it felt like some of the tension melted away.
——
Take ten
After multiple attempts, you got new insights on how to make the scene better. This take, you are determined to do it perfectly.
Byung-hun stepped into place, eyes meeting yours. You focused on the warmth in his gaze, the way his presence seemed to fill the space around you. When his hand reached up to gently touch your jaw, you let your eyes follow his. Your face lifted up from his actions but your eyes fall down to his lips for a short second.
Deep down, you panic. You swore it was an accident but your mind was silenced when he did the same look to you.
The set door opened, cueing the break of contact.
“Cut!” the director called, clapping his hands together. “That’s it! Perfect! The improvisation in the end, chef’s kiss”
The crew cheered their agreemants, and you let our a relieved laugh, stepping back. Byung-hun grinned, leaning in just slightly. Both of you silently agreeing to not bring up the improvisation. If you could call it that.
“See? I know you could do it,” he said proudly. “Yeah, well, I only learned from the best,” you replied teasingly, still a little flustered
As the crew reset for the next scene, Byung-hun lingered for a moment, giving you an encouraging smile. “You did great. Let’s see if you can stay calm like that for the next scene.”
He grinned shrugging his shoulders before walking away, leaving you standing there, cheeks burning, heart racing, and maybe… looking forward to the next scene.
