Straightening Labels for Recolors: A Tutorial

Roadmap - CC queue/in progress

Thought I'd give an update on all the projects I'm working on in one place, because it's been a little while since I put out one of these lists!

🥕 Tutorial, French and English: Straightening labels from round surfaces in photoshop for use on recolors using the warp and skew tools - all screenshots taken, just have to mark them up with arrows/circle relevant parts/adjust opacities to highlight what I want people to see, then put them in a pdf with brief instructions.

Model #1 is mostly finished and some initial outfits have been picked!

Weekend Update! The metformin is now properly done and I think another really cool example of what you can do using real life photos (when color adjusted etc in photoshop to match the other textures) for your retextures! I'm going to wait to release these until the rest of the PCOS/Insulin Resistance Kit is done, which will include some different facial/body hairs for feminine frame sims, darkened armpits/neck in various swatches, and then probably some diabetic/insulin resistant/low glycemic index cookbook deco.

I'm also working on more Sentinel feedbags today! It's super time consuming so it's been slow going, but so far I have two of them done.

Progress! I decided to include some related objects with my upcoming PCOS kit, so I did recolors for bottles of spironolactone (can also be used for HRT-taking AMAB sims!) and metformin using ATS4 meshes. I also made wall mounted arena letters and gave them a shadow and bolts from my own texture to hold them to the wall. I pulled the top-of-lid texture for the CVS bottle from my own photo and have one that I still have to use to add a texture to the top of the metformin bottle.

Hoping someone can help me out - how do CC creators make skin details that automatically match any skintone? Right now the only way I know how to do it is to manually make swatches for different skin colors but that's not as universal as it could be.

Is there a way to load the diffuse for the game's default skin for sims with the body fat slider maxed?

And is there a way to load skintone diffuses other than the lightskinned one in SFS?

Also re: lookbooks for fat sims, while I'm crowdsourcing, what sorts of themes would you guys like to see?

So far I have planned:

- A lot of classic style (ig this is being called "old money" fasion on tiktok now)

One really simple thing you can do when trans people are under attack irl and one of the primary scapegoats of the Trump administration is to simply not like, reblog, or reply to posts by transphobic CC creators. The more that CC gets spread, the more people will click back to their blog to see what other CC they have and see any posts they make spreading their rhetoric in the process - including a lot of teenage TS4 players. The more a piece of CC gets spread, the more exposure they get - and that includes all of the transphobe themselves, not just their CC.

Also an update re: my fat sims project, I finished my beautiful girlie (aside from the skin details I want to make for her) and I've been having a blast picking out outfits. The goal of my lookbooks isn't just to give inspiration but to game-test a large amount of CC clothing on sims with non-idealized frames, see what works, and highlight it to create a starting point for people who want to make sims of different shapes and sizes but have no idea what will or won't distort or glitch on them, especially because most clothing previews only show what it looks like on a slim or hourglass shaped sim - sort of a community database of size inclusive cc clothes with pictures and ways you can use them.

Okay, as I get deeper into my realistic fat sims project, I'm figuring out what I need to make for realism. Eventually I really want to make an ankle width slider and women's neck width slider but idk how to make sliders right NOW so that's further off atm.

I'm a digital artist irl so I'm going to be making a pack of skin details based on things we seem to be missing and I'd love to gather some community input/requests before I get to work because once I start working on CC I usually like to knock everything out in one fell swoop.

Here is what's on the itinerary so far:

- Side rolls

- Lower belly cleft

- Belly fold for double/"B" bellies

- Arm stretch marks

- Abdominal cellulite

- Neck creases

- Back rolls

- Armpit creases

- Bra strap indents

- Back of knee stretchmarks

- POSSIBLY if I can figure out the mapping, a shadow effect like people do for cleavage to create the impression of bra bulge, but I'm not sure how to map where the bra straps of different bras sit onto the skin textures so if anyone knows a way for me to like trace on the outline so I know where to paint the shadows please lmk!

Adjacently (as most people with PCOS ime - as someone who has it and is active in support communities - are fat) I also plan on making scattered chest hairs for feminine frame sims and a happy trail in different densities for fem frame sims.

Other PCOS CC I'm planning:

- scattered small number of chin hairs

- darker neck/armpits detail

- random long/dark upper arm hairs

Ta-daa! I'm making a hospital for one of my stories and I noticed that a few things were missing. This set is BGC and contains 3 items: safety stairs (9 swatches), a yellow railing to match them (2 swatches), and stairway signs (21 swatches).

If you have a use for this, you may also like my warning stripe platform trim.

The texture on the tops of the steps is pulled from the light gray 'Construction Quality Concrete' base game floor, so if you use that in your landings, it will blend seamlessly with the tops of the stairs.

One note - you have to place the stairs as one tile wide or the textures will distort horribly. To make a multiple tile wide staircase like the ones in the previews, you have to place two staircases side by side.

Horse Shampoo and Conditioner

A much requested item! Here is a recolor of Sandy (@aroundthesims)'s pet salon lotion bottle to be two popular brands of horse shampoo/conditioner. I recommend pressing the ] key one time to size them up. Each has a front and back label, which I pulled and then flattened by carefully warping them to a grid in photoshop. The specular for the caps is reflective, so they're shiny like in real life, but what's really special about them is that the push tops are textured from photographs that I took of my own bottles.

Slow wip! I'm turning @simdertalia's ACNH EKG machine edit into a passable ultrasound machine - there's only one and I haven't been able to get into contact with the creator in order to get permission to recolor, and I needed one showing an ovarian cyst as opposed to fetal imaging for John's (you have not met him yet) storyline so I can torture him like a bug in a jar a little bit.

So far I've added the screen and made a box design for the alcohol prep pads and the tube of ultrasound gel on the bottom from scratch. All I have left to do is to recolor the box of gloves on the bottom there.

I'm going to be releasing this with a set of ultrasound room wall signs that I made and a deco tube of ultrasound gel.

Huge Bucket Recolor Dump

Good morning simmers! I have a very exciting, very large set of recolors that I thought were sorely needed to share with you today!

Nuttie @ Lone Pine Estate (@lonepineestate) converted Elin's IHTL buckets from TS3 and was gracious enough to send me the original files so that I could recolor them, because initially we only had them in black. I added 11 new colors to the ones full of feed, 12 colors for the empty buckets, and 11 colors for the covered buckets - each with six different options for the color of the elastic cover!! That brings us up to 66 swatches just for the covered buckets, so you should have plenty of lifelike variety in your feed rooms!

Next up is the flapback buckets, but I'm taking a little breather and going about my assorted tasks for the time being. If you like these, let me know! I really am motivated by knowing that people are enjoying and getting use out of the stuff I make!

Another thing I'm looking at doing in the near future - mostly for self-indulgent reasons, but also because it's a giant gap in the available cc/fanworks - is lookbooks for non-idealized fat sims and pregnant masculine frame sims. A lot of creators say their clothes are done for all morphs but they actually don't conform to the furthest extremes the sliders allow that well, so I'm hoping to give people a starting point for finding clothes that don't look super duper wonky.

Any thoughts on what you'd like to see in this, or just likes to say 'hey, this is something I'd be interested in', or requests for specific kinds of outfits and aesthetics you would like to see, are welcome! Either in the comments of this post or you can send requests/suggestions in an ask.

i'm playing around in cas getting the hang of making realistic fat sims and i was BLOWN AWAY by how good the croissant overlay is, like,.. goddamn. i haven't worked on her face at all yet and the hairdo isn't my favorite ever but i'm using it as a placeholder for... SOME kind of short butch hair idk. similarly i realized i only have three (3) fem swimsuits in my game so i will be exiting the game to go hunt for some. my goal is to release the fat base sim set i'm working on already dressed in outfits i've tested in game and know to work with the meshes.
