Strike Force: Vermillion Barb
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The release of Shadowspear for Warhammer 40,000 sparked something a little unexpected. I've been toying around with the idea of a Red Scorpions army since Kill Team dropped, and even started assembling a small team with the aid of Warhammer 40,000: Conquest. Shadowspear changed all of that.
The Vanguard force are absolutely stunning models! I've loved the Phobos pattern of Mk. X Power Armour since I first saw the Reiver kit, they're a phenomenally good looking kit in my opinion, and the sillouhet of the armour is instantly recognisable on the field. The Vanguard capitalise on that, with almost everything having a basis on the Phobos variant.
So, these are the first three units for my force: 10 Infiltrators, a Vanguard Captain, and 3 Eliminators.

An amazingly condensed peice on colour-theory, and well worth the look for anybody who paints

Life In The Fast Lane
Tumblr media
This is an Achilles Ridgerunner. The Genestealer Cultists are ingenious when it comes to repurposing civilian and industrial equipment for their Uprising. The Ridgerunner is a survey vehicle which has been recommissioned by the Primus for the cause.
And it's one if my favourite kits I've ever worked on. It may even surpass the Taurox Prime as my favourite vehicle in 40k, but that will depend on it's tabletop performance. I already have a second halfway finishedon my desk, and will definitely be adding a third to max out a Fast Attack choice. Its a delight to work with, and incredibly cool!

Demolition Men (kinda...)
Tumblr media
And here's the next five Acolytes. These will form up a squad of ten with my other as in games, and have already proven themselves to be devastating if allowed unchecked in enemy lines. The combination of ten hand flamers (10D6 auto-hits!) and the high-strength, Mortal Wound dealing rock drills let's these guys wreak havoc on tanks and high wound characters.
I love them!

A little bit later than planned...
Over the Christmas period, one of my gaming groups got a little excited about LOTR again. I now own a substantial amount of Corsairs of Umbar again, and this is the beginning of that army hitting the table.
Really looking forward to painting more!

A New Project...
Tumblr media
Not too exciting, but there's another project on the way this year.
I've decided to finally bite the bullet and build a force specifically for Age of Sigmar, as my Kharadron Overlords were principally bought to play as better looking Forge Fathers in Warpath.
I've decided to go with Death, and specifically Deathrattle. I love the GW skeletons kit, and they're absolutely livdely to build and paint. The plan is to have well over a hundred of the bony guys, and back them up with three Mortis Engines, for which I will be slightly converting the Idoneth Deepkin shipwreck model.
I'm going for a skeletal pirate theme!

The Old Guard
Tumblr media
The first and second generation offspring following the Genestealer's Kiss emerge as a more obvious hybrid of Human and Xenoform. These grow up to be the Cult's Acolytes, and these are the first five of mine.
These are all atemed with Handflamers, which have seen a real boost in output in tyge new Codex. They're soon to be joined by five more Brothers, bringing some heavy industrial equipment along with them...

Little Brother
Tumblr media
A second Kelermorph appears!
I'd decided upon release of the Kelermorph that I was definitely going to add it to my uprising, and working with my first I immediately knew I would be converting a second. This is him.
It's a fairly simple conversion, just swapping in a couple of Acolyte arms and an Acolyte head. This guy is also fast becoming a star of my force, along with his brother.
I've taken to equipping this guy with The Oppressors Bane, a relic pistol which replaces one of his Liberators and adds an extra shot to his arsenal. Big Bro shoots first from beside him, doing whatever horrific toll he can, and then Little Brother steps up. Hitting on 2+, and (thanks to his brother's aura) rerolling 1's is mean enough. But every hit generating another shot means a potential for 28 wounds from this fella alone.

Stormsire's Cursebreakers
Tumblr media
The third Warband I've completed for Warhammer: Underworlds is Stormsire's Cursebreakers, a small group of Stormcast Eternals charged with investigating the ruins of Shadespire and the secrets of Shadeglass.
These are the second warband from the Nightvault core set, and I actually really enjoyed the work! They're a bit of an oddment for me, as I've not been sold on the aesthetic of Stormcast Eternals until now, but a Chamber of Warrior/Wizards on a holy quest to take the peril out of reforging is pretty cool. And they're ACE sculpts. Lots of crisp and dynamic detail, without being overburdened with a ton of skulls or sorcerous arcana. Loved them!

I May Have Bought Nightvault...
Tumblr media
And having done so, I got a bit of painting rattled out in January. Above are my Sepulchural Guard, the warband I'll probabaly use more than any other in games, until a Kharadron band appears at least.
Tumblr media
And here are the denizens of the titular Nightvault, the Thorns of the Briar Queen. Both these warbands were finished fairly quickly, but I enjoyed painting them immensely!

The Kelermorph
Ghyrson Starn, Hero of thr Vigilant xenocult.
This guy is a bloody gorgeous model. Bought in the new Starn's Disciples box set for Kill Team, he's packaged alongside some Acolyte Hybrids and a little bit of terrain. And I love him!
It's been a while since I last added to my Genestealer Cult, but this weekend is finally our time of ascension, when the last Codex missing from the previous generation will see its update. And I cannot wait!

Mr Ian Fraser Killmeister
Absolutely loved painting Lemmy! I actually have all three members of Motorhead, bought from an Etsy seller for what I consider a steal considering how nice and clean the casts are. I'll search the link back out and post at the bottom when I get a chance, for anybody else tempted.
A fantastically simple sculpt, prompting a clean and simple pallette to execute. Nd very please with how he came out. He's already made his 7TV debut when attempting to foil a Hostile Takover of the Cotswolds by Drumpf and his Lackey Theresa May.

Run From The Hills!
Finally finished work on my Khand force for Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game. Its an odd force, made up entirely of leftovers from when I wanted a Khand army years ago. But its a decent 300 point warband, and wasted a band of Morannon Orcs led by a hulking Troll Chieftain yesterday.
Love me a chariot!

The Variags Ride Forth!
Had a bit of a run on painting Lord of the Rings stuff for the last couple of weeks. So I've now only got five basic infantry to paint and that's 300 points of Variags finished.
I've really enjoyed working on these, the Chariots were a really nice test because they're scaled differently than the usual GW heroic stuff I work on. And the cavalry, while very much identical, were a nice practice run my next Saga army.

Terror Tactics!
I've finally finished the second member of my Red Scorpions Kill Team, so here's my first Reiver.
Reivers are some of the nicest Space Marine models that GW have put out EVER. They have perfectly captured the image of a Terror-troop, with a subtlety that takes nothing away from the classic Astartes silhouette. And I love them. To the point of having an internal battle over doing a pure Reiver army. So far I've managed to hold off. So far...

"They Came Back With The Hunger of The Damned!"
A small update, but progress nonetheless! Here's a second Grave Pit for my Saga Revenants. This second pit actually brings my painted total to 6 points. However, without another unit of Revenants done to replace it with, it's essentially useless. So they're next on the block!
