Human Face Animal Sculpture

Entering the artist Xu Zigui's AKUI Art Museum, you will be amazed by all kinds of human face animal sculptures in the room: bird people, elves, 12 zodiac signs. Pay attention, you will find that the faces of many characters are exactly the same as those of the painters in front of them, and some are similar to the political and economic topics on television. Among them, there are many presidential candidates, which will make the audience smile.
Xu Zigui is famous for his sculptures of human faces and animals, with realistic expressions combined with fantasy outlines, bright colors coupled with the fine texture of pulp sculptures, and full of style recognition. The AKUI Art Museum has gathered his works over the years. In the studio on the second floor, I saw piles of newspapers, pulp machines, and workbenches, fully illustrating the artist's labor process.

Xu Zigui in his early years was actually famous for his flat paintings. Xu Zigui said that when he was in the Fine Arts Department of Taiwan Normal University, he had been studying traditional painting such as realism. He started a retrospective at the age of 30. However, when he went to the Pratt Institute in the United States to study in the same year, he found that he had not established a personal style and was determined to destroy retraining Start by changing the creative materials.
He said that New York implemented garbage sorting at that time. The garbage was not placed at the door of the garbage truck. He saw that there was a lot of waste paper, and considering the meaning of human civilization in the paper, he tried to tear the paper to make it texture. The paper was turned into pulp, put into the relief coloring, and finally made a three-dimensional shape.
After 30 years of pulp sculptures mined from garbage, Xu Zigui's theme has evolved from social criticism in the early days to modern life. The key to change is to see a chameleon illustrated book in 2004. He said that he only discovered the chameleon species and rich colors at that time, showing the "pure beauty" of form and color. "Everyone likes to use the text to express the way, and it is insinuating, but the expression is not pure or good?"
Nowadays, Xu Zigui's various sculptures have their own unique magic among the quirky and lovely, and they are very popular, and many of their works have rich family memories. For example, he used his mother's face to make sculptures, and added family zodiac signs to his back. He also playfully used his wife's zodiac signs. "These works can be seen at the AKUI Museum of Art, and he can drink at the cafe run by his son at the door. Tiger." The combination of the body with his wife's appearance, coupled with his and his son's face combined with the mouse's body, means "tigress power". Cup of coffee.

A Rainbow of Tape Cascades Through a Six-Story Atrium in Sydney

LA-based artist Megan Geckler recently completed work on her latest multi-colored tape installation inside the 6-story atrium of the historic Customs House building in Sydney. The suspended artwork titled “A million things that make your head spin” was produced with 14 kilometers (46,000 feet) of flagging tape with the help of several volunteers. Like a swirling tornado of color, the piece dominates the interior space of the building utilized as a cultural hub located in the city’s Circular Quay area. The Art installation will be on view through April 30, 2017. You can see more of Geckler’s work in her online portfolio and watch a behind-the-scenes video below.

Rogue Installations of Similarly Colored Objects Inside Big-Box Stores by Carson Davis Brown

Using found objects collected from within big-box stores, artist Carson Davis Brown creates color-specific installations for his photography series Mass. The works are organized conglomerations of basketballs, laundry baskets, wrapping paper, and other mass produced goods, each arranged by color within the stores they are found. After photographing the works they are left as is, experienced by passersby as a break from the monotony of the weekly grocery store run and eventually disassembled by the store’s staff. You can see more of Brown’s assembled consumer experiments on Instagram and his project’s website massproject.biz. (via Juxtapoz, Catherine Edelman Gallery)

15,000 Origami Birds Adorn Buildings in Paris

Created by French street artist Mademoiselle Maurice in collaboration with Mathgoth Gallery, the work represents the biggest mural Paris has ever seen, a massive flight of birds landing on a 20,000-square-foot wall.
Lunar Cycles is a massive site-specific installation featuring 15,000 paper-crafted birds in the 13th arrondissement of France’s capital city, requiring (non-paper) cranes to hang the elaborate avian collage.

The artwork was installed on a condemned building, allowing the artist to first apply a layer of black paint as a backdrop for the colorful array of geometric paper birds added to the wall. She also painted on a series of two-dimensional origamic patterns to bridge between the physical papers and flat surface.

Calligraphy-Inspired Murals by Astro

French street artist Astro brings an interesting sense of perspective to his public murals that turn flat surfaces into portals that appear to recede into another dimension. Already known for his wild calligraphy-inspired patterns, the artist has begun to incorporate 3D illusions with the help of shadows to create tunnels and voids at the center of his works. Astro’s latest piece was recently completed as part of the Loures Art Publica project in Loures, Portugal.

The First 3D Printing Pen in The World by 3Doodler

Don't sketch your ideas, build them in front of you with this 3D-printing pen!
It’s a whole new way of creating art work instead of drawing on a piece of flat paper, you simply weave your pen in three dimensions to create solid structures such anything from a model car to a sculpture, or to a cell phone case. The pen works like a fancy glue gun, but uses a plastic resin instead of glue. It has a hot tip that melts the plastic as it is extruded out of the end of the pen. As soon as it meets the air, the resin begins to harden.
The 3D pen system can use up to 65 different colors of plastics, and now offers such embellishments as matte, glossy, metallic, sparkle, and more.

3Doodler 2.0, the world's first 3D printing pen, reinvented. So incredible!

Realistic Paintings of Children and Animals by Kevin Peterson
Hyperrealist painter Kevin Peterson paints fairytale-like interactions of children and wolves, birds, and bears in scenes much different than the pastoral worlds of storybooks. Instead Peterson places the unlikely packs in distressed cities filled with decaying buildings and urban detritus. Despite the worn surroundings, the young girls in the paintings maintain a sense of innocence while they bravely explore the streets with their powerful compatriots.

“My work is about the varied journeys that we take through life,” explains Peterson in his artist statement. “It’s about growing up and living in a world that is broken. These paintings are about trauma, fear and loneliness and the strength that it takes to survive and thrive. They each contain the contrast of the untainted, young and innocent against a backdrop of a worn, ragged, and defiled world.”

French Train Cars Filled with Impressionist Art
Commuters traveling from Gare Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny in France get to gaze up at a selection of impressionist art from the Musée d’Orsay applied right onto the walls and ceilings of their train cars.

The SNCF (French National Railway Company) collaborated with the adhesive experts at 3M for a summer-long installation that will make rail travel a lot more beautiful and relaxing. Three double-height cars on the RER line have been altered for the project, photographed by Christophe Recoura so the rest of the world can catch a glimpse, too.

An adhesive graphic film printed with impressionist scenes was carefully applied to immerse train travelers in these serene compositions starring the vague painterly brush strokes the movement is known for. Each car has its own theme: gardens and water, local landscapes or Paris industrialization.

Stories Printed Instantly On Narrow Receipt Paper
Wondering what to do while waiting the bus or the train? Instead of mindlessly staring at your phone or twiddling your thumbs, why not print out a quick short story. This new edition is created by a small start-up in Grenoble, France and aims to do just that with the Short Edition vending machine.

The machines were conceived by Short Edition co-founder Christophe Sibieude who was standing in front of a traditional candy vending machine and questioned if there might be a better way to pass the time other than snacking.

So far, eight of the minimalistic vending machines have been installed around the city, each of which has three buttons that correlate with how much reading time you have to spare: 1, 3, or 5 minutes.
The stories print instantly on narrow receipt paper which makes for easy reading and storage. The randomly printed stories are written by the Short Edition community, and also include poems and other forms of experimental short fiction.

You can check it out the video below to better understand the process.
