My dad’s sitting and smiling at this movie of a terrible dude being terrible to women (taking advantage of his higher job position, reducing them to sexual objects, cheating, etc.) and im like “WOW that guy’s a jerk!” And hes like “yeah he sure is!” And i asked, “well, why are you smiling then?” And his response was “because it’s meant to be a comedy!”

i know itachi “loved sasuke all along” and was trying to protect him, but am i supposed to forgive him? because i won’t. not after seeing how baby sasuke was shaking and begging not to be killed, how itachi spoke to him that night, and how itachi went on to make him relive it over and over again when he showed up at the hotel where naruto and jiraya were staying. nah. idc if itachi had to kill the other uchiha to save sasuke, he didn’t have to psychologically torture him or any of that other shit. if kishimoto’s intention is to bring the reader to forgive itachi, it’s not gonna work on me lol…im not about to stop hating a character who psychologically tortured his twelve year-old brother using the trauma that he himself inflicted

i dont understand why the "did konoha really shun sasuke?" an actual topic of debate. people seem to look naruto through black and white to the point they think being shun meant being pushed away by everyone like naruto which of course sasuke wasnt yet that doesnt mean he wasnt an outcast too. konoha basically saw sasuke as a tool because he was an uchiha which made him a sharingan user, nothing more. they didnt not push him away but thats because they never even tried to come close to him, he just existed separated to fulfill their expectations and that was it.

no one gave a shit a 8 year old had watched his entire clan be murder one night, no one gave a shit that 8 year old suddenly was raising himself in the same place because he had nowhere to go and was all alone, no one gave a shit about that 8 year old to even try to check if he was okay. yet despite not caring about sasuke himself the entire village were all ready to go to watch him fight at the chunin exam just to "see" his progress as a shinobi aka just them caring about him just because of the expectations they had of him as a pawn of the state.

"but sasuke was popular at the academy" girls just liked him for the same dumb reasons any girl of their age likes boys because he was pretty and was at the top of the class, meanwhile the rest of the boys just saw him as someone to beat because of his clan's reputation. so yeah, he was popular but that didnt mean he had any actual friend or was actually liked as a person or not for the shallow idea they had of him.

of course it's true that because of his own trauma sasuke tried to keep people at distance but thats not excuse for the village to ignore a kid completely while putting him in a pedestal for what they hoped he would do for them.

I am terrified by the new visuals for the amazon lotr series. TERRIFIED I SAY. There was nothing I dreaded more than them getting the rights for anything prior to the Second Age. I mean, the visual is awesome, ok. But the fact that I first thought it was a visual of Numenor.. Until I saw the two trees (instead of one) in the distance and someone making a detailed analysis why the city would actually be Valimar, and then someone saying it could be Tirion as well.. I'm not gonna lie, I'm terrified that one of the previous reports was right in saying they have been given some rights for Silmarillion. I thought they just got full rights for the Akalabeth instead of having only the Appendices, but seems like it isn't so..

At this point maybe we should collectively make a giant bingo card consisiting of all the things we fear Amazon may do/use in the series lmao. Let's make it somewhat entertaining I guess 🤡

I am NOT accepting any Tolkien adaptations unless the soundtrack is ENTIRELY iconic bops from the 70s to the 80s. If it doesn't have a montage of every bad decision a Feänorian has ever made set to “Mama Mia” paired with a record scratch, pause, and rewind to the start as an intro, I DON’T want to fucking see it!!

The biggest question i have for amazon’s lotr is how do they plan to make the elves hair glow. cg??? Will they dye their hair w glow in the dark dye??? String LEDs through the strands????

Well, they better figure it out because I won’t fucking stand for anything but lustrous rapunzel glowy magic hair and if they think this is the same rodeo as the pj films, they are mistaken.

Animation is so underrated! I hate to be a such a hater everytime we get a new piece of information but what little we so already looks so generic, this could be any recent piece of fantasy media. And since Amazon pumped so much money into this thing that they wanna get back it has to be super smooth, without any edges, to appeal to as many people as possible to make as much money as possible. I think this is my main beef with the think. I don't want watered down Silm content for the masses.

My actual worst nightmare right now is that all Silmarillion elf fanart from 2022 onwards is going to feature mediocre Hollywood actors as our favourite characters from the Legendarium. Do you know how much joy it brings me when I see fanart of a dark-haired Faramir and Boromir, or Legolas with brown hair, or anything that deviates from the Peter Jackson movie portrayal of the LotR characters?

The Silmarillion, even more than LotR has this dreamlike storybook-fairytale quality to it, and in live-action you either have to move away from that towards a more gritty, realistic style, or CGI your scenes to death in an attempt to make them sufficiently ethereal (the weird floaty-singy scenes with Arwen are my least favourite ones in LotR, and The Hobbit suffered for its excessive use of CGI).

But with animation you can make it magical, you can have the nature and weather react to the power of someone's words, you can play around with lighting and costumes as much as you like. I made this post over two years ago, because the animation style of that show was so visually stunning that I knew those scenes would haunt me for years, especially the one with all the fire in the background - you get a sense of the tragedy, the emotional stakes, just from the surroundings.

Things I want to see in the LOTR on prime series: (are these petty. Yes, yes they are. But the pre-exile Noldor were Petty Queens™️ so sue me... or maybe that was mostly Feanor and Artanis?)

1. Galadriel better have THE most fabulous, shiny, deep gold laced with silver hair. Her actress, Morfyyd Clark, apparently won “best wig” on-set so I’m hopeful.

2. Celeborn better make an appearance. His wife is supposed to be one of the main characters for freak’s sake.

3. Celeborn better have ACTUAL silver hair. Not that weird platinum blonde with some sort of grey mixed in that the movie had. ACTUAL SILVER Y’ALL (not the metal, the color)

4. Amanyar elves should look clearly distinguishable from the others. I want to be able to see how their eyes glint/shine with the light of the trees. I want to see them glow in the dark. Galadriel and possibly Glorfindel are the only named characters that I can think of that are Amanyar during the 2nd age, but it would be cool if you had one or two extras in the background as well.

5. I’ve changed my mind and decided that having a proper representation of Celeborn (ie not the literal doormat statue that he was during the movie) supersedes Glorfindel considering his wife is one of the main characters, but I’d also want to see Glorfindel especially if Elrond is supposed to be one of the main characters. I assume he’ll be seneschal of Rivendell by the late 2nd age so there’s definitely some places to add him in during the Last Alliance plot line (specifically during the 3 years they spend preparing for the war in Imladris), even though I know he probably won’t be a huge character. (And it’s a long-running tv show so there won’t be the same problems as “how are we supposed to introduce this character who needs a massive backstory just for one scene” that the FOTR movie had)

6. And I want Glorfindel’s hair to be gold, not platinum blonde, YOU HEAR ME. GOLD!

7. I’d really like to see some of the female elves with actual updos. Idk why PJ made the decision that all elves only do like half-up styles. Those styles wouldn’t work for battle me thinks when you have plated metal that it can get caught on. I guess Glorfindel is the exception considering he literally died by getting pulled down from his hair (and it’s later mentioned that his locks flowed behind him when riding Asfaloth), but Galadriel had to take down her braid to give Gimli strands of her hair, and Arwen wore a jeweled veil headpiece to the dinner in Imladris (during FOTR), so I don’t think ALL elves did that same sort of style. Would be nice so see a little variation.

Btw before anyone goes, wow you really hate platinum blondes don’t you? No, I am literally platinum blonde myself. And that’s the thing, the elves with hair that is considered exceptionally fabulous should have hair that’s not “unnatural” (like neon yellow) but also not completely attainable by human hair. Is this kind of my own headcanon? Sure but the you also got to consider that no human has seen the light of the Trees.

Every one in a while I remember Amazon is gonna release that LoTR tv series this year and I just don’t think think TV is the right medium for any kind of silm content. There’s only three way to do it right and they’re laser light show, rock operah, or on ice

there are few things i dread more than amazon getting their grabby little hands on fëanor and completely butchering his character arc, but at the same time it would be awesome to see the house of finwë political stuff play out on tv

to be honest my main issue with a potential adaptation of the silmarillion is that it will be live-action and not animated in the style of the mo dao zu shi donghua, because don’t tell me this wouldn’t be the perfect vibe for the silmarillion
